Japanese car companies faced the same quality & safety challenges & copycat criticisms in the 1960s, but look at the high quality they produce today in e.g. Honda and Toyota (+ Lexus). Will China automobiles similarly excel in the decades to come? That's an expectation.
Let me get this right, BYD went shopping to the japanese car mamufacturers & bought the right to reproduce the previous corolla shape,ailbeit re-styled front & rear,couldnt afford the toyota motor so they settled on an old mitsubishi lancer motor and lastly emulated their brand logo on the BMW logo They mas produce cars like they do with washing machines & fridges..Like@ papadad111 said "theyre coming on strong"..watchout for the spin-cyle selector! BYD will be sold at a appliance store near u!
i have BYD F3 in Beijing since August 2008. It is a good car for value. Price including all tax, insurance, road tax, registration, etc etc was less than $11,000 USD. Mine is using Japan made Mitsubishi engine. Now new F3 since 2009 uses BYD developed engine..price less too. now $10,000 USD. Good value for money. Many features. Low price. Remind me of Honda in mid 1980's ...watch out world car makers as BYD is coming on strong.

when you drive a real bmw, you´ll never want to buy a byd again.
bmw, and all the other german cars are just a great choice, you pay for quality, and not only for the name of the car!
