  • It sucks that the this character never had a good chance on the big screen. Especially since The Dark Knight Rises is the last Batman movie.

  • @360Jopo

There is no such thing as the 'last Batman movie". They'll reboot the franchise in two to five years tops if history's taught me anything.

  • Mr. Freeze has always been more of a tragic villain than anything. His origin story just breaks your heart.

  • this is something that todays equivalent shows like Ben 10 and Generator Rex are missing, everybody is evil for the sake of evil. none are evil because they were left insane from a horrifically traumatic experience.

  • Freeze is the only one I see as a real victim. Even as I kid, I knew he was fucked over and forced to do this.

  • I'm so glad I grew up watching this

  • Such a sad story. :( It even made someone like Batman say "My God".

  • One of my favourite Batman stories. BTAS is still the best.

  • I'm a younger fellow and I am wondering if these are ''movie'' clips or taken from actually series? Since the quality of these are fucking of the hook.

  • @mejwyn It's taken from Batman: The Animated Series circa: 1992-1995

  • @mejwyn

You can find all of the episodes from Batman the animated series on DVD or streaming or even via torrenting if you know how. Watch every episode you will not regret it. It's sheer genius, better than any other batman media... ever.

  • Thumbs up if ur watching this after playing arkham city

  • Its funny to compare this Mr Freeze with Arnold Schwartzeneggar

  • Batman did the right thing stopping freeze from killing ferris boyle, because he didn't want him to become the monster that boyle was. Vengeance only bring the worst in people.

  • my favourite character in arkham city

  • Mr. Freeze is so dark it's cold

  • I think Batman would have let mr. Freeze kill Boyle if there weren't other people in the building.

  • man this sucks, little kids like my cousins are missing out on cartoons like this. I wish they would bring back the old cartoons and replace this other stuff on tv.

  • Anybody else think that The Ice King's backstory from Adventure Time may have been a wee bit inspired by this?

  • @squidloveful I do, especially the idea of using tapes to explain the backstory.

  • it's weird that the cartoon show was better than the movies pre nolan.

  • @Madorem Christopher Nolan is way over-rated. Even the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton is better than the new Batman movies.

Media today has too much philosophy. Too many characters waxing poetic. At least The Animated Series was subtle. Philosophy needs to be subtle. We shouldn't be getting lectures from characters every five minutes.

    Sorry, that's how I feel.

  • the top 2 episodes were this episode and the 2 part episode about Dent/Two Face

  • Victor Fries

Once a brilliant cryogenist, now a man doomed to spend life frozen in sorrow.

Through all of this, all he wanted to do was save his wife. He is not a villain. He does not do most of the things he does out of hatred, vengeance, or revenge. He does it out of hope, the hope that one day, his wife will be safe again, and that he will be human again.

  • I'll settle for some lukewarm revenge leftovers.

  • Just when Batman says "My god..." the video resolution gets butchered

  • And to think Joel Schumacher almost ruined this character. One of my favourite characters, i feel bad for him.

  • man the ending makes me feel so sad

  • 0:29 Star Trek quote! (I know it's not just from Star Trek, but hey.)

  • Boyle is a dick!

  • I love how Freeze constantly claims that his heart has been forever frozen and he no longer feels any emotions other than hate and vengence, but by the end of the episode we can clearly see that he still feels love. It's a warm place in his heart that Nora's memory keeps alive.

  • Ah good ol Dr Freeze, my idol.

  • i mean freeze's boss

  • @jpez563 He's voiced by the same person as the Joker.

  • @Wierdperson31

i doubt he was voiced by mark hamil

  • @lylatfox4 Freeze's boss? The one who kicks him into the chemicals? That guy IS voiced by Mark Hamill. They liked his performance there, so they turned to him for the Joker later on.

  • @Wierdperson31

i know, i read his comment saying freeze sounds like the joker and then saw ur comment so thats why i responded, my apologies

  • freeze's sounds like the joker

    oh and hes a dick

  • Is Freeze voiced by Maurice LaMarche?

  • @MrStarwarsdude101 No, Michael Ansara. I think he sued to play Kang on Star Trek.

  • Mr Freeze is and always shall be one of my most favourite Batman villains. This version in-particular is my favourite inscarnation of him. His voice is so chilling and his emotions bring warm feelings to my heart, even if some of his words are evil. Even thhe way he says "I have failed you" brings tears to my eyes...

  • The episode that won a fucking Emmy.

  • @ReaMbo87 Deserved it too, damn it. When will cartoons now learn?

  • What I loved about this show was that it humanized some of the villains.

  • @DrClay999

At least Suda51, Platinum Games and From Software are alleviating that.

  • I think there's something in my eye...

  • Another reason why Batman TAS will always be a epic masterpiece

  • The most effective part of this scene is Batman's uttering of "My god...".

Seriously, its a kids cartoon and the main character's saying "My god...".

  • @MightyKombat - Agreed 100%.

  • This is what most tv shows are missing these days. There does exist good shows in our time, but they only focus on comedy. There is nothing wrong with comedy, but I feel sad that the younger audience does not receive any other genres of entertainment. They need to know that life isn't all about laughter. It's kind of like video games these days, they all are FPS's. While FPS is a great type of game, you forget all the side scrolling, beatem-up, adventure games that were also just as good...

  • I know how you feel, that's what I've always been thinking. But with times changing, it's hard finding the perfect show that seems suitable for everyone. There are cartoons that have plenty of action, but more on comedy. I suppose people feared of "darker tone" cartoons being aired on TV. Just look what happened to Symbionic-Titan, it was perfect, but it got cancelled because it was way too violent. Adventure Time, has action too, but more on comedy.

  • they need more darkness

  • Apparently Mark Hamill was Boyle in this episode.

  • Wait? Freeze said that he couldn't shed tears and at the end he sheds tears

  • @wolfkniteX Its a figure of speech really.

  • Is it just me, or does Mr. Freeze look disturbingly like Shou Tucker from FMA before he transforms?

  • Anyone else notice the voice of the businessman is Mark Hamill who also does the Joker?

  • You know a super hero cartoon is good when they incorporate a bullshit character and a bullshit origin story into comic canon. Bullshit in this context meaning made up.

  • @Rantincorporated wtf are you talking about? this show was fantastic

  • @godfather10246 I said bullshit in that context meaning made up. Replace bullshit with made up and that's what I mean. I even said the show was good.

  • fuck corporatice capitalism

  • he's got a "cool" voice

  • since when does the goddamn batman need a lamp to masturbate?

  • It's a testament to the show's power that they were able to get away with saying "My God"...

Even the censors were left spellbound by that tape.

  • Wow,I forgot how good this show was! And for a kid's show that's saying something.

  • I'd like to see a Batman as good as the animated series, I mean Tim Burton did a good job and had almost the same feel.

  • Woahaoho

  • He really was more of a ghost of vengeance. There really was no happy ending for him, whether he had his revenge or not.

  • 0:37-3:00, that right there is something I'll never forget. I reacted just like Batman, but I REALLY didn't expect him to actually say it. Just wow...

  • The businessman is so obviously played by Mark Hamill.

  • i've seen 3 different ones now, the "batman and robin" one where he falls in a vat of liquid nitrogen, a cartoon onee (i think, i watched when i was little, cant remember what it was from) where he falls in one of them tubes his wife was in and 3rd was this one

  • "Vengeance is not power. Anyone can take a life. But to give life, THAT'S true power, a power you once had."

  • @Visonu same here

  • Mr. Freeze is without a doubt my favorite batman villain along with Ra's al ghul and Bane

  • He should definitely use the design and story from BTAS. And finally, Patrick Stewart should be the one to play Mr Freeze. He both has the appearance and can easily portray the voice and personality. Now that is a Batman movie I want to see.

  • Mr Freeze is no doubt the most tragic and sympathetic Batman villain of all time. He was just a scientist who froze his wife Nora while trying to find a cure for her almost incurable disease. But with the interference of corrupt businessmen combined with the delay of curing his wife and the mutation of his body drove him to be consumed by hatred and revenge. Michael Asnara and BTAS did the story and character so perfectly. If Christopher Nolan ever does a fourth Batman movie with Mr Freeze-cont

  • @ChibiMiddleFinger the episode is called "heart of ice"

  • awwww thats sad :'(

  • Does anyone know where I can find the full episode for this?

  • I hope Boyle gets arrested

  • @pete1210able he gets his just desserts in the end. Batman sees to that.

  • I took an online class last semester and one of my classmates was named Victor Freeze. I'm serious.

  • 3:30 back HANDED, bitch. :D

  • Wow, I actually feel sorry for this villain!

  • best episode.

  • best batman show.

  • Boyle should have died! i hate Batman for saving his life

  • I read that this episode won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program.

  • Very beautiful ending, sad.

  • one of the best cartoons of all time *nostalgia*

  • Boyle is an asswipe

  • Theotherguy1222 yeah he does but you can probaly think about it if the police knew he needed it to survive with cold temprutures they probaly put him in a room with a adjustable tempruture don't worry dude i thought the same thing when i first watched it

  • liam nesson would be a good freeze

  • @skyhighfilmz He always seems a victim of tragedy (Darkman, Taken, Schindler's List, The Phantom Menace (the film itself), sacrifice in Narnia) :/ would it be repetitive to use him again in a batman film?

  • The only villan that I feel really had more of a reason to turn agaisnt society. well two face did too but kinda a sad way to go

  • I feel so bad for him now

  • Mr.Freeze's formal boss reminds me of my old boss I use to work for, he was dark hearted and cared about himself......

  • i like how you randomly threw in a clip of Batman just punching a guy. and i'm not being sarcastic here, i really do like that. because it was awesome.

  • out of all the bats villians, this is like one of the most depressing

  • The best villains are the ones who truly are anti-heroes that you can't help but cheer for but you know won't entirely get to win because they do things outside of the law to achieve a good end. Mr. Freeze is kind of like a Jack Bauer 10-15 years before Jack Bauer and 24 were even thought up.

  • Mr. Freeze is an ideal tragic villain. I really wouldn't mind just letting him kill that businessman, but, Batman's war against crime means that he can't look the other way.

Anybody find it weird that he still has the voice that makes it sound like he speaking through an old radio when he doesn't have his suit?

  • @dragonstormx Batman does leave the guy responsible for ruining Freeze's life frozen in the end.

  • @suemorphplus2009

And he hands out the video out to the party, so presumably the guy goes to prison as well, and gets his reputation ruined.

  • @dragonstormx Agreed. This episode brought tears to my eyes as a kid and still moves me to this day. I think that the only reason Batman stopped Freeze, rather than his war on crime was to save Freeze from becoming a monster like Boyle, so that Freeze could retain the humanity he had left on him.

  • because its probably not the suit.

he is literally a walking ice box. his vocal chords I imagine would have been stiffened and/or/damaged by the accident. notice how weird he sounds when batman cracks his helmet and induces shock. you barely understand him.

  • @dragonstormx Maybe he has ice crystals in his voicebox? I dunno.

  • @dragonstormx

I always thought Mr. Freeze had an awesome voice.

  • They still need a Patrick Stewart Mr. Freeze.

  • Wouldn't Mr. Freeze need his suit when he was in the Asylum? I thought he needed it to survive. : /

  • @TheOtherGuy122 I could be wrong, but I think they made his cell to be that specific temperature so he could survive

  • “This is how I'll always remember you, surrounded by winter, forever young, forever beautiful. Rest well, my love. The monster who took you from me will soon learn that revenge is a dish best served cold."

Probably the best introduction to a villian in the whole series.

  • mr Freeze was my fav batman villen. next to the joker.

  • u know u have to feel sorry for mr.freeze... all he wants is to keep his wife alive... if thats not love i duno wat is...

  • It's really sad for Mr. Freeze, He will do everything to keep his wife alive and then there are people who actually want to stop that proces without knowing it

  • Michael Ansara was perfect as the voice of Mr Freeze ! :D Heart of ice is one of my favorite episodes of BTAS ! :)

  • Nora! NORAAAA! Has always haunted me since i saw this as a child. *shivers*

  • cxcdsfjd so fucking sad;

  • Is that Mark Hamil doing to voice of that guy? ... sounds a little like him lol .. especially when he shouts lol

  • @iMadeAPie It is. Good ear man.

  • @iMadeAPie Yes it's the voice of Mark Hamill of that guy

  • sheesh how many cameras were in that room?!

  • I love all the fonts in this show.

  • What a haunting score... R.I.P. Shirley walker

  • this was easily the best episode in the whole series and the series was a great show in itself

  • aaaaarh! You needed the clip where batman throws the chicken soup at Freeze! I always loved that as a kid

  • have u done catwoman? if not, plz do

  • ..."a dish best served cold"... you mean Vietnamese food?

  • @chocobosROK No, gazpacho soup!

  • anyone know the name of the song that is there theme for mr freeze?

  • Comment removed

  • Trulee, the most coolest villain in Batman

  • why is not batman & robin like this!?!??!!?!?!?!

  • @hunterkiller1440

simple : joel schumacher and the dumbass that edited the story f*cked it up

  • Hear his boss (I presume it's his boss).

Mark Hamill voiced him, and I can REALLY hear Joker seeping into his voice.

  • I love how Mr.Freeze quotes Kligon...

  • 3:30 pwned

  • why is his wife in there?

  • @2002lha his wife had a disease and mr freeze put herein the freezer till there woud be a cure for it

  • He has the saddest story ever most villians are crazy but he has purpose

  • Mark Hamill plays the guy who attempted to shut down Fries's experiment!

  • Freeze's speech starting at 3:40 made me cry.

  • Paul dini and bruce timm are awesome.

  • Micheal Ansara gave life to this character,a great actor, and voice actor.

  • Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Cold

  • wasn't this movie from the TAS?

  • @gido0471 Yes, this was from the "The Animated Series."

  • Freeze is just a softie but I wouldn't tell him that.

  • And another thing: is it just me or does Freeze look a little overweight in the "security" tape (although it looks more like a home video, to me)????

  • Boyle was a much colder villain than Freeze, that's for sure, but seriously, I didn't like Freeze one bit in TNBA. He was just going around inflicting pain and misery on innocent people just because HE was feeling it.

I couldn't see him redeeming himself after that. I wished he'd died in TNBA, not Batman Beyond. In TNBA, he deserved to die.

  • all he wanted to do is to be with his wife, he fought to keep her alive. i call that true love

  • @dlass7710 What about all the people he hurt doing so, if they came after him and killed him for how he took away THEIR loved ones wouldn't that also be an example of love? Freeze is still a villain, just somewhat more sympathetic (especially considering how psychotic the rest of Batman's villains are).

  • @ShadowSonic2 I guess ur right someone did try to kill him in batman beyond for taking his loved ones, its all becomes twisted when everyone seems to be in his way

  • What always got me is the flunkies. No matter what villian or what the motivation of the villian they always seem able to find some unwitting stooges to do their bidding.I mean with Mr. Freeze what would be the pay off.Freeze gets his revenge against Boil and then?Freeze didn't seem like he had alot of money.

  • 2:09

    "These are MY machines!"

    "Whose machines?"

    "MY MACHINES!"

  • I used to think that Mr. Freeze would not be a good villian for the next Nolan Batman movie but this video has convinced me otherwise. There is so much to explore and expand upon this character. The whole deal of the loss of his wife and him doing anything in order to save her, I could see that in a movie. Now some parts would be hard to explain in a realistic setting that Nolan uses but I think he can make it work LOL

  • Batman actually said, "Oh my God!" I mean this is a kids show

  • @Patros2006 That's what made the show so great. It didn't have to water down it's content or talk down to the audience in order to be child-friendly.

  • @Patros2006 This is technically a kids show, but I think this Batman series was meant for pre-teens. This show is just a little bit too dark for anyone under 10.

  • @johnbanks707 Bruce Timm said he nver meant for this show to be for kids, hence when the justice league came out it was more racier. but in truth superman tas was racier then this.

  • I love Batman, its so hard to find a decent cartoon these days. BATMAN FOR LIFE :)

  • what is the name of the song that keeps playing with the snow globe it very sad and beautiful

  • what a sad yet beautiful thing

  • That wasn't really evil, just sadness.

  • @MultiHydralisk And all Mr Freeze wanted was to save his wife.

  • 1:52 Mitt Romney

  • i like the batman characters, some of them like Mr. Freeze, and Clayface they are people who found their way in a bad situation and aren't truly evil like the joker, yes they do bad things, but they are repentant 'villans' who are acting the way they do cause of their circumstances, either to treat their condition or to find a place to hide...

  • I remember seeing this episode for the first time...and thought that this was the best cartoon show on the air at the time. It didn't just appeal to the kids....it had a way to reach the adults as well.

  • personally i can see Mr. Freeze being able to scare the ever living crap out of me

giant metal body and suit, looming over you, and dark glowing eyes....put him in the dark, that would be pretty crazy

  • Poor Mr. Freeze =[ His robotic voice makes it that much sadder

  • ralph fiennes as Mr. Freeze

  • That last speech gets me everytime
