  • dude here's my take firstly take a deep breath! ya didn't use premium gas did ya? so it could be ur >> tappets , cracked block , crack cam , crack in valve cover , water pump fan thingy cracked , bad plugs , woooh to much etc... etc... the list i got is huge! scrap it

  • Valve gap

  • VANOS baby

  • hi i have a bmw 323i e46, days ago my bmw engine madea noise like your's. Mechanic said it might be dirt on the tappet valves or valves seat. Try changing the oil and oil filter. if you can also use cleaner gasoline additive, may help remove. Dirt or sludge in the oil, may hinder the movement of the valve that can not reach the top quickly, so the command of valves hit the valve instead of just pushing it. I hope it works for You.

  • Don't listen to the scrap it for the crusher BMW haters. This car requires about $600 worth of work to get it back to a smooth pooch.

  • lezaj radilice

  • The Alternator!!

  • You have the virus cold VANOS you need rebuild vanos

  • also as the rpms rise the noise does too.. and you can feel it in your pedal like a tappet

  • sounds like a tappet..., but i forgot to mention there was a yellowish paste in the crank case and under the cap too

  • @FrDChicken

Yellow paste?? Sounds like a Head Gasket Failure.

  • does it leak?

  • I had the same problem as your car have. If the sound's occuring in front of the room, nearby radiator, you should replace your timing belt roller. It generally divided by 2. You should check those first.

  • If your car sounds like this take it to a machanic.

  • I got 1995 525i and it have the same noise and I have a 2000 M ROADSTER and it have the same noise.noise engines I guess

  • did you find out the problem? i have the same noises.

  • did you find out the problem cause im having the same thing happening to mine to?

  • One my 323i, I had two very large holes in my vacuum hose which caused my car to cut off at a stoplight that is over a hill. Also, starting the car was a hassle since i had to hold m,y foot on the gas to warm it off. Eventually I had to drive the car with the MAF sensor unplugged. It was sluggish but started. FINALLY I bought a vacuum hose from BMW for 25 dollars and had it repaired at an independent repair shop. Total cost was 50 dollars.
