I like the idea of this movie, because it is one of the few (if not the only) films of its kind, shown from the perspective of the "bad guy" rather than the hero. It really brings a lot of humanity to a character that, had we known he was a killer from the start, we might not have cared to think of as human at all :( To me, it's everything a movie should be - it evokes emotion, and teaches a valuable lesson about human fragilty </3
beautifull book and film about an really importantquestion: do we need to give crimenals a second chance. I think we should because if you don't give criminals a second chance after have done their prison time or something like that, you must forgive and let them prove they are not evil. If you don't do this I think that you can't take the juristdiction any more as the truth/enough. sorry for my bad english
that movie pictures our society...unfortunately ...life and people are cruel and they dont give a second chance...but we all need love...we must start to resocialise people and not punish them...sometimes the action itself is their own punishment!!!
Was a cool movie and always good to point out the other side.
The killers of Jamie bulger where not necessarily evil people and the public should be ashamed of the way they treated those kids. They did a terrible, terrible thing, but they were still kids.
The point where you said their actions were not evil and that they being kids causes it to not be as bad, also feeling sympathy for the public opinion on the matter.
It would be different if Jon was not continuing to break the law with disgusting acts such as possesion of child pornography, fighting, alcoholism and drug abuse.
And from what i know neither of the pair have given a direct apology to the mother for the murder.
@CJYOUFCKINBUSTER Where did I say their actions wetent evil. " They did a terrible, terrible thing."
Plus I'm not talking about now, I'm talking about then. And at that point they were still young children.
That is unless you can give an instance where a huge mob of grown adults would be justified in abusing 10 year old kids verbally and physically. Where it would be justified to beat 10 year old kids to a pulp.
What they did doesn't justify the reaction to them, maybe their parents.
"That is unless you can give an instance where a huge mob of grown adults would be justified in abusing 10 year old kids verbally and physically. Where it would be justified to beat 10 year old kids to a pulp."
Where did this come from? What are you talking about?

@LynnX9 Trust me, the trailer isn't half as good as the film, it doesn't do it justice. I can't speak for the book as I haven't read it, but the film is really good.
whoaa saw the movie earlier today and I can recommend you guys that wanna see the trailer first to not watch it because it gives a way ALOT of the story...
@Keyrax I had a same question too,but it may depends on OUR imagination.Parsonally I prefer that she is the imagination by him, because if she's real,it's a bit like hollywood.
One of the most unknown and beautiful movies I ever saw. Mullan is awesome and Garfield is just perfect, never over the top, just perfect in all his frailty. It questions the mob-lynching mentality, the lack of cold reasoning judgment and how media and shitty tabloids can make people hating two children for a crime while forgetting that there are millions of children dying everyday in Africa (but well, the media coverage is less importante in their case...). The book is also wonderful.
Outstanding drama. The acting is terrific and the subject matter is very nicely handled by the director. He lets the audience make up there own mind as to whether guys like this deserve another chance after committing such a horrific crime at a young age.
Such an amazing film, I remember watching it and thinking the Andrew Garfield would do big things. Next thing you know The Social Network and Spiderman. So happy for him, very well deserved. He is also outstanding in Never Let Me Go.
to every one that wants to watch this movie novamov.com has the movie on there along with alot of other great films, this has to be my favourite website for movies.
This was the first thing I saw Andrew Garfield in and was blown away by his performance, he had already had a good start in theatre long before this. Fantastic script by Mark O'Rowe and brill cast There's just something about Andrew Garfield...
I think that Boy A was well done, but it wasn't the best movie I've seen. I felt like it was too short and some storylines could have been more developed. I also think that Michelle and Jack had zero chemistry, but that's probably because I'm jealous that she got to make out with Andrew Garfield. His performance in the movie was endearing and he did a stellar job of portraying Jacks's emotions. The ending was def. heartbreaking, though it would been sadder if the trailer didn't give it away!!!
Some of the parts were very uneccessary (i.e the sex/bathtub scenes); I feel as though it could have been adapted better. However, this still is a brilliant movie. The ending was heartbreaking, but it was probably the best part of this film.
@belen2394 ive sent you a link to a website where to watch this, just and click 'x' on the advert and press play, the only down side to this website is buffer time and stupid adverts but this shouldnt stop you enjoying the film
i swear i never seen or heard of him before, but after watching his performance in the facebook movie, i knew that he is gonna be a big name just like russel crow or jonny depp etc..
This movie is very haunting. It is amazing but the end makes me angry how his girlfriend and best friend turned their backs on him and he was made out to be some kind of monster for what he did as a NEGLECTED little child just following a friend who was the only person who ever paid attention to him. No one would even let him explain or tell his side of the story.
I just watched this movie today.I used to hate juvenile crime.but it changed my mind and I couldnt stop crying.anyway Andrew Garfield was really really great.

Totally agreed, The movie was beautiful, although based on a sinister subject and elements from the Jamie Bulger case in '92.
I have watched it a couple of times now for uni and it is almost lyrical, haunting and painful for the Jack wanting to make a new life.
Andrew Garfield rightly deserved the BAFTA.

It gives away the whole freakin plot!! But it doesn't build any of the suspense. I would be sooooooo mad if I watched thi strailer before I saw the film.
"Gee I wonder how this will end? Uh, maybe the same way the trailer ended...?"
Sorry for any spoliers but the trailer already did it.
It's not a trailer it's a troiler!!!
