  • @scottdeftones You make traction control in a 600bhp lightweight car sound like a bad thing. It is a button, giving you the option of turning it on or off. I'd like to see you say that on a sunday drive tearing up some twisties, when all of the sudden RAIN. 600bhp is pretty effing scary in a $70,000 plus car, on wet roads.

I rang up out of curiosity to find out how much a GTS would cost and the lady just kept laughing. Oh two year no claimes bonus and no accidents ect for me to drive a GTS it'l be $8,000 a year. Oh well I can still dream.....

  • i am to a proud owner of a 2008 dodge viper srt 10 it is dark blue and has the infomus v-10 gas gussling enegin i love it to death the only thing is it was built with out a clutch pedal so it is not stick shift just vertical gear but i love my viper

  • If you wanna take the ZR-1 well then compare it to the none stock viper. Lets take the ACR viper. At the hardest track known to car manufacturers Nürburgring aka (the Ring) the ACR viper beat the ZR-Dont compare aples to oranges, compare apples to apples dude. The ZR1 is not a stock vette, so you cant compare a stock viper against it.

  • The ZR-1 is a stock Vette, just like the ACR is a stock Viper. The definition of stock is the way it's built from the factory. Chevrolet makes the Vette with a supercharger, stickier tires and other stuff, there's no tuner company that gets involved. Same thing with Viper. Dodge adds the wing and other race-like stuff themselves. Therefor, they're stock

  • IDK if this response was towards me, but yes the ACR is a stock Viper, but it's not a base viper though. You would compare a Z06 vs the Stock SRT10 Viper and compare the ZR-1 vs the ACR viper. You wouldnt compare the Z06 vs the ACR cause it's not the fastest vette around anymore. Catch my drift, so why compare a base GT vs the ACR viper, if anything compare the GT vs the base SRT10 Viper. The ACR is a pure breed racecar that happens to be road legal, and use a stock 600BHP engine from the SRT10

  • Not really, ACR stands for AMERICAN CLUB RACER, it's designed to specifically take out to a track and race with it. Other then it having a stock 600BHP like the SRT10 viper, the ACR has a ton of things that are totally different then the regular srt viper. While yes I agree that it's not a 110% pure race car, it's a begginer level race car though. It was designed for the track

  • The ACR is only a Viper with aero bits, stickier tires and suspension, and lighter rims. Not so different from the base Viper that I'd call it a "pure bred race car", it's just a mildly factory-modded Viper. It's not like the changed the subframe, steering rack, engine, or transmission at all, it's the same car with bolt-ons...

  • Yeah stickier tires that only last about 5000 miles. The ACR viper also got the fastest time at the ring, where as the regular viper isnt anywhere close to the ACR viper's time. The ACR viper stands for AMERICAN CLUB RACER, which is meant for you to take the car straight to a race track that hold those races and for you to start racing with it if you have the money dude. It's a ton different then just a stock base viper dude.

  • What relevance is the treadwear rating of the tires? They're street legal DOT-approved tires, meaning any car can have them. And what does it matter what the NAME of the car is? You're grasping at nonsensical straws here. The difference is an aero kit, tires, and the letters ACR, how is that a ton different?

  • Tires can make all the difference in the world dude, thats why you never see a formula one car go out there with a tire that can withstand 75,000 miles or more. Thats why you never see a real sports car with nothing less then low pro's. The difference in those things made the viper go from a very mid pack to low pack of the qualifying grid as far as times to on top of the time chart dude. Look at the times, those little things make a huge difference dude.

  • Where did I say tires are not important? The point that flew over your head is that changing tires on a car, while it may affect performance drastically, does NOT make the car drastically different. It's simple, anyone can do it.

But not every car comes stock with tires that only have 5,000 or less miles worth of life on them. Most come with a 50,000 or miles till they are expended.   • I guess you only know about cars like a Camry or Civic, with 50,000 mile tires. All my cars come with tires that last 10-20k if I'm lucky, my Evo IX barely makes it 10k miles on stock tires, my SRT-8 barely 20k, it's stupid to talk tread life when talking about $90k cars. Again, the notion that treadware on a supercar is relevant ridiculous to anyone who can actually afford to buy the car in the first place, that only matters to people who drive the basic transportation class of vehicle...

  • No I am actually on a race team, where I know what tires and there compound can do for a car. The right compond on a car can literally make or break a lap time on a track, but believe me I know about compounds. The rear tire on my CBR makes it only about 4,000 miles before it is down to nothing. But never the less the differences between the stock viper and the ACR turned a viper time from a 7:59 to an amazing 7:22.1. If the changes are minor, why such the change in lap times dude?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    The New 2008 Viper is 4 seconds slower than an ACR on the Track. Seems like nothing right?? 4 seconds on a track means like 30 car lengths away if not more.

    The 2008 Viper Runs times Close to the ZR1.

  • Well thats kinda hard to tell considering the last time I checked the new 09 viper did not record a new time on the track. So how can you say how fast it got, when it did not record a time. I would love to know where yuo got that time considerint that the track itself never recoreded a time for the 09 viper.

  • When the Viper ACR was tested on numerous tracks, The Viper SRT10 was always 3.5-4.5 seconds slower.

    So in conclusion on Nurberg, the Viper would either be 3.5-4.5 seconds slower. Which is close to the ZR1s time or faster.

    Listen, I know the Vette and Viper. The New ZR1 and 08/09 Viper are equal. Boils down to driver error. On str8s. 0-150 or 0-200 mph the 08 Viper is faster.

    On the track, i prefer A Viper because the torque and gearing flings you out of corners alot faster.

  • ON what tracks and how long are the tracks in question????? If the stock viper is slower then a ACR on a track that takes 2 or 3 mins to go around then it would be a ton slower on a track such as the ring. The ring as far as I know is the longest track, so by the end of 1 lap it would be about 30sec or so behind the ACR. Which means it would be a lot slower then a ZR-1 then what you think. If yu want to compare lap times, compare a ZR-1 and a stock viper itself dude.

    Other cars included in the comparison where the Corvette Z06, Ford GT, Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 GT3, Audi R8, and other such cars. It was faster than all of these cars by 5 seconds if not more.

    I calculated the Lap Time for you also. The Viper SRT would run a 7.28 lap time, 2 seconds slower than a ZR1. happy?

  • I understand that, and I am not saying at all that the Stock viper is a slouch at all. It's a very fast car, and if I had the chance I would totally pick one up. But nothing but a true heads up race would be able to deligate how fast a viper would be against a ZR-1. No calculations can be done, cause there's to many variables involved. You can only estimate

  • You really want to know something? These cars are so close, along with other cars such as the Ferrari 599 and Porsche gt2, it comes down to driver. A simple pebble can affect the 0-60 timing.

    So in conclusion, go for what you like.

  • Ehhh I dont think there that close that something as much as a short shift will make the outcome of the race different. But yes they are all extremely fast and yes you should always go for what you want. You should never not go for what you want.

  • unfortunately, the vette does get to 60 faster but the viper accelerates from 60-top end faster than the vette and it has a higher top end speed, thats saying something.

  • The new ACR has the same power in it which is 600 horses it's just been made lighter, bigger brakes, adjustable suspension and the big rear wing which at 150mph it makes 1,000lbs of downforce and both are made side by side in the same factory.

  • How can you say that when the GT was a stock GT, The ACR stands for American Club racer. While yes my argument for the Viper vs the ZR-1 still very much stands the GT is the base stock GT not a suped up version. The SRT makes more power, and both the ZR1 and The ACR basically had racing tires on while doing the laps. The ACR's tires only last about 5,000 miles, and the ZR-1 tires are wider then most truck tires. They specially made the ZR-1 tires for it. You cant compare the GT to the ACR.

  • No the GT only makes 550BHP I believe where a stock viper and ACR makes 600BHP. I knew they where the same and no, not all cars can be tuned dipshit. The ACR was adjusted suspension wise, where the GT among other cars where not. There's even a special mention of this in the times asshole. The ACR is a special viper that can be tuned, cause it has adjustable shocks, spoiler among other things. The GT was a stock suspension setting, also as for times I realized that.

  • BUt the ACR went out several times with several different suspension setting before it recored that fast lap, the ACR is basically a road legal Racecar. The GT is a stock base, GT take the GT vs a stock trim Viper and you'll see what happens. NO stock trim viper is even close to the GT dude. Take a Race trim GT and it will recoed a much faster time then the stock trim GT did. You really dont understand, your barking up the wrong tree dude.

  • Also the ACR did not make that it's first time around the track, they actually tuned the car for that track. They actually stoped in the middle of time trials for that day to setup the car betterm adding more downforce, adding more camber among other things. Dont get into an argument about the times. I know way more then you do bud about this subject.
