BOO to Cassandra Wilson for siding with the BDS movement and declaring that Israel has no right to exist. The BDS movement does not support peace between Palestine and Israel, it supports the delegitimization of Israel. Double BOO for accepting FULL payment for the gig months in advance and then canceling. If she had genuine opinions, she would have refused the gig. Clearly, she was manipulated or intimidated.
Cassandra was raised by her father on a diet of classic American jazz, and she incorporates various pop influence from listening to the radio on some of her songs. Criticizing this translation of a classic bosa nova tune because it is not like the original simply misses the point. This is a restrained and respectful translation into her first language - jazz.
That should be great: your daughter has the same kind of REAL atmosphere like Cassandra has. And your daughter understands the depth of the thinking and feeling! Be proud of her!
I am totally in luv with her, the musicians, the delivery, even her unsteadiness. (been there, done that) Cassandra, you have always been a breath of fresh air to me! Bravo. ~Dawn Cargile~ Reverbnation
Cassandra Wilson's performance is always a surprise. There isn't a change in the "body" of the song, and she always promote a revolution in the body of music. She's amazing! (Always with very good musician)
@gabrielusa911 Not all black people can sing that's a dumb stereotype trust me!! My cousin sounds horrible he's tone deaf but me and my sister can sing a little bit.
@Bluesnswing no not really haha. i really thought it was interesting. im a bass player myself. never heard a bass with SO much mids before and sound decent. heh xP
Cassandra Wilson has the most soothing voice, I can just sit back and meditate to her words as she sings. The musicians were awesome and bass solo was fantastic.
Beautifully haunting...The musicians are simply delicious. I will remain a grateful admirer. I wish I had known of your work much sooner. For that I feel cheated.
Reminds me of a smokier, way more zen, Carmen McCrae. Which is not a bad thing--check that lady out on youtube--very cool. Thanks for posting this. Got to love Cassandra!

Cassandra Wilson !! Miracre Voice !!
サラ・ボーンを彷彿さす深く響く低い歌声に酔います。
バックの演奏も無駄な音が一切なく秀逸です。Jazz嫌いの御方も聴いて下さいね♪
Thank you so much for this upload !!

Cassandra puts everything she does out on the fringe area. Jazz purists may not like that. Her vocalizasions in general sound off-key to me.

Nothing is simply stated when it comes to Cassandra or the musicians here. I can't fathom the words to express the feelings that take over my soul.

I love this - the depth of her voice and her soul. Forceful yet still hauntingly beautiful. This is definitely a keeper.
Thanks for letting us all hear her. Tomas

In fact a brilliant homage to Brazilian music. In his own way.
And that's exactly why Ms. Cassandra Wilson is precious: She has a way .
If the detractors clap on their hands the basic rhythm of bossa, they see that the balancao is here.

Sorry but I didn't like this interpretation. One should listen to Elis Regina version of this Brazilian song to check the real Bossa Nova version.

how do you know? Did you ever ask him. You insult a musician/composer if you assume thay want their music set in stone.
zezt 2 years ago 5
Yes, yes of course -- a music artist wants someone to sing their songs as a writer wants someone to read their books :)
jmajuru 2 years ago
You do realize that music is constantly evolving. If we all played the same songs in the same way that would stifle our creativity in all aspects.

Nobody "changes" Astrud Gilberto's version, Cassandra just ADDS her interpretation. Ever thought about it this way?

How do guys like that get around freestyle, I don't know? I get lost even with frets and inlays.
