i personally think that when a violin player doesnt "over" exaggerate, he is not playing with expression. which is what a great violinist should always have. you never see a brilliant violinist standing still, do you? I know i can't play a piece standing still, or it has no expression and sound's boring. so "over exaggerating" isnt really a very good choice of words.
