  • You obviously have not read about "clean coal". Its a process in which they're able to shoot the carbon and methane back into the ground. you should check it out because its pretty interesting. As far as alternatives to oil go, it's estimated that if we completely overhaul the system to switch to alternitive energy sources, we would still need about thirty more years of oil. As far as big coal goes, the american people should be able to drill themselves by raising money and hiring ourselves.

  • Schweitzer for VP!

  • (continued) We need alternatives, but COAL 2 LIQUIDS will increase carbon and methane output, as well as subsidize the disgusting and deadly practice of mountaintop removal coalmining in Appalachia. Schweitzer's stance on coal has made me less trustful of him. So much charisma, and then he sells out to Big Coal. Please retreat from the coal path Schweitzer! You are better than that!

  • He has talked about wind power. I think that a combo of wind, water, switch grass biofuel, etc. are more promising than coal. But he is right in saying that we should not be dependant on foreign sources of energy.

  • COAL-TO-LIQUIDS is an environmentally devastating filthy dirty fuel system. The only reason the Nazis used it in World War II was because they didn't have a sufficient oil supply, which is also precisely one of the main reasons why Germany was destined to fail its insane military mission.

  • (continued) The solution to the energy/climate problem must be GLOBAL, we cannot progress if we are unable to think beyond the immediate benefits to the nation state. From what I have seen, national energy security rhetoric in the end always ends up being about how and why we should embrace coal, the most polluting and destructive (even if commercially profitable and productively functional in the short term) fossil fuel in the history of mankind.

  • I love this man's charisma but seriously, how can you talk about national energy security without talking about the social and environmental consequences of fossil fuel use. Please do not allow Montana to become another whore state to the coal industry. I know those reserves are tempting...please do not go the coal route...we are still paying for that mistake today when it first made in the 1970s.

  • johnmxsu:

wow. You are such a noob liberal. we have three gas guzzling car and know that there is a oil problem, which there isnt. So you are a noob and i should pwn you.

  • Just heard Governor Brian Schweitzer commenting on Real ID on NPR - what an IDIOT this guy is, major small-penis attitude and flip commentary. Typical liberal Democrat. Check out the recording for yourself!

  • Are you confused bud?

Schweitzer is against the ID. Very against it. He is trying to get 17 states to reject it. Give him a medal. Real ID needs to be shoved back up Bush's ass sideways.

  • dave, you're a real piece of shit

  • Joe--

It's not clear what exactly name-calling does to advance any debate. If Dave bugs you, email Tom Robertson privately, or email Dave privately.

  • 1. Transforming food into fuel is a good way to commit passive genocide against billions of impoverished humans.

    2. Converting coal into fuel is a good way to melt the world's icecaps and flood such cities as New York City, Miami and New Orleans (displacing millions worldwide).

So the governoer is going to save America by destroying the Earth. He really does belong in Montana, doesn't he?

  • Dave, you haven't had a son die in the mid-east have you?

Keep driving your SUV Dave. You'll melt the world with that too.

  • John:

    1. I don't drive an SUV.

    2. I don't support the war in Iraq.

    3. Coal is not the solution to the oil problem.

    4. Have you heard of Peak Oil? Mining all of that coal will become prohibitively expensive to impossible over the next several decades.

    5. Americans won't have a choice except to live differently. In other words: Instead of burning all of that coal to keep SUVs going, Americans ought to stop driving SUVs and use public transporation instead.

    4.

  • Dave it's good to know youre not a hypocrite :)

I'm not sure coal is the answer either, but theres no answer in the mid east.

The Pentagon uses loads fuel as does transportation of goods. Priuses & buses can't fix the problem either.

This is a big country & public transportation is not feasible in a good majority of it. No public rail or bus within 4 miles of me & I don't live in the boonies. I'm not going to walk when it rains here 200 days/year. I'll stick to my 40 mpg car or motorcycle.

  • johnmxusa: THOUSANDS of men and women have died keeping America free - it's the price we all pay. 2) I drive my SUV 70mph on the expressway - people pass me like I'm standing still. Get real. ps - I drive an SUV and have driven an SUV BEFORE they were called SUV's. I'll bet you have oil stocks in your mutual fund and retirement plan - enjoying the profits? <<<< Fact.

  • MoveOnDotOrgg:

Probably hundreds of thousands died, and I honor them. I have friends touring now. What does oil or gov agenda have to do with freedom?

Drive an SUV if you can afford it. Global warming from your SUV is a scam. I drive a 40mph car to save cash. Lots of it.

Nope I don't have enough money left over for investments. My government is happy taxing the shit out of me so they can get a power hard-on spreading "democracy" around the world.

  • johnmxusa << John, taxes are a heavy burden and historically reducing taxes has been a conservative mandate but you're seriously flawed and mistaken about America's role in the world - unless you want to live under Communist rule? It's like tending a garden, if ya don't weed, soon you'll be surrounded by socialists and commies - and we could all be walking goose-step hailing Hitler - think about it.

  • You listen to Sean Hannity too much or something. You've got some serious blinders on.
