that, and the Nationals expected him to be prepared to go from a 50 game college season to a 162 MLB season, 10-12 more starts with hardly any minor league training...he was bound to tear his arm up
Look up "inverted W" regarding pitching mechanics and you will then know that his arm was doomed from the start. Nationals just happened to be the team he played for when the inevitable happened.
Adrienne#24 is 32 year old fart who thinks everyone should watch his 6 year old kid play. He says it is to give his son confidence. Is that sad or what?
It's a shame for every good pitcher that has to play for a shitty team..... such as Felix Hernandez, Michael Pineda, Josh Johnson even tho FLA is playing well i don't think they get past PHILLY, and all of the other good pitchers in majors
@litojonny that's so false. "anybody can dominate if they can locate their pitches". to dominate, not only do have to have control, you've got to have movement on your breaking pitches and velocity on your fastball, and you also have to know the batter's weaknesses and keep him guessing. there's more to it than just simply throwing the pitch where you want to.
why are all the the pro pitchin coaches in the comments all criticizing his mechanics, the guy brought something exciting to baseball even if he destroyed his arm in the process it was still dope while it lasted and he culd even come back stronger hes still very young
wow this is shows clearly why he blew out his elbow. just look at the mechanics, he's throwing before he gets his foot down and doesnt use his core. You can see all the elbow whip he generates instead of using his core. Hopefully he will figure it out
His arm is trailing his body too far, i.e. he cocks it back too far after his leg lands...that leads to stress on the arm. I hope he makes it back to throwing 100 mph but he needs to work on that.
@rhymeister He does not continue loading his arm after foot strike, so this is incorrect. Everything is going forward almost immediately after his front foot lands.
@jonsey3002 Stop the vid at 0.16, his foot lands and his arm is still way behind his head with his elbow at 45-degree angle. Not good, don't do this at home, kids!
When he throws, his right elbow is above his shoulder when he throws. It ruins his timing, and puts extra pressure on his elbow. It was only a matter of time until it happened. It's better now then later. If you don't believe me, look up Mark Prior.
@phillypitcher31594 how could the nationals have anything to do with ruinign his arm??? if anything, pitching too much in high school and at san diego state contributed to his unexpected injury...tony g pitched the shit out of this kid when he coached him...nationals treat strasburg like a golden child u dont kno shit dude
@phillypitcher31594 the nationals actually took really good care of him... They only had him pitch when he was feeling healthy and the one game he told his pitching coach he had some just some slight elbow pain while he was warming up and they stopped it right there and had it checked out. Unfortunately it led to tommy john surgery.
@phillypitcher31594 Theres nothing they could do, he have 5+ days rest and was limited in pitch count, if he was any team it would have happened, it was just fate
i know he got tommy john and all but you cant say he has bad mechanics if the kid's throwing 101 mph fastballs and a breaking ball that every major league hitter would struggle to hit
@ubaldoc213 he tore his ulnar collateral tendon in his elbow because he was releasing the ball too close to his ear! You are supposed to release the ball at a 90-160 degree angle there fore he had bad mechanics for his arm but not the whole body!
@Erii77 umm i just signed onto youtube for the sake of calling your bullshit, seriously. Unless you're throwing in the 90s you're not really simulating the stress or same physical movements in either guy's motion.
@qSumo hahahahaha you make ad hominems funny, but the thing is you just made an assumption based on something you don't know, I never actually said how hard I throw Sumo, but hey maybe you've tried what I did, and yielded different results is that it?
If so please, tell me then... what results did you get when you tried throwing like both?
If not then stop wasting my time, and apparently your time.
@Erii77 haha I hope you're not serious right now. First of all, I qualified my statement by acknowledging how the situation would be different if you were indeed throwing in the 90s. Secondly, if you did throw in the 90s you probably wouldn't be risking your current pitching mechanics for the sake of simulating two pretty different motions (not to mention the time it takes to actually accurately learn each motion). Basically, get outta here you clown.
@qSumo again with the ad hominems, you don't have to like me, but you can at least try my theory. And yes both styles take practice (In case I may have hinted otherwise which would be untrue), but are possible to simulate. So instead of calling me a clown based on nothing, you can actually try what I said which is based on my experience (weak evidence, but better than no evidence).
Maddux had the best mechanics of them all and was also the smartest of them all. He realized he doesn't need to throw mid 90s to be successful, something Strasburg might want to think about upon returning too.
You implied that bad mechanics naturally lead to injury. I gave you an example of a pitcher with bad mechanics who not only avoided injury, but became one of the best pitchers of all time. I know exactly what I'm talking about you fucking retard.
@mehik7734 wtf are u talking about! maddux is a role model for mechanics, if youll watch a video a scout took of him at 19 whe he threw 93 he has mechanics similar to lincecum, he just didnt lean back as far and had the cleaner arm action he has now, he just found that shortening his stride and not throwing his hardest produced amazing results for him, his mechanics are amazing, he doesnt have bad mechanics.
@mehik7734 how did greg maddux have bad mechanics? explain that one slick. Best pitcher of this generation not named pedro. Threw hard with movement and control and remained injury free his whole career. Seems like his mechanics were pretty good to me.
He swings his front leg out on his delivery, and he lands on his heel. He was athletic enough to maintain excellent control, but there are a lot of pitchers out there who wouldn't find the strike zone if they copied his mechanics.
Major League Baseball is dumb. how the hell they not gunna have this kid on the all star roster??? i mean who doesnt want to see strasburg vs Derek Jeter, Alex Rodiguez and Joe Mauer??? I no I do. Who cares if he doesnt deserve it, charlie manuel picked Omar Infante as an all star reserve. Omar FUCKING Infante. A mediocre ultility infielder. So dont give me shit on how he doesnt deserve it. Im no nationals fan, strasburg fan (he's ok i dont hate him or n e thing) but who wudnt want to see that?
@shall2347 think of it this way if some guy was working all his career and he had this 1 great year of pitching and he started from the BEGINNING of the season and the spot was taken away by some pitcher who started in JUNE and is a rookie how fair would that be besides once again he started in JUNE it wouldnt be fair to other NL pitchers you moron
@taiwangx That's why its called a pre-start bullpen ;-) This kid is legit, there have been a lot of overhyped prospects in the past but this isn't one of them... The kid has only allowed ONE hit in two Triple-A starts, he'll be in Washington very soon.
think about the aces in the nl east.........future Tommy Hanson Josh Johnson Roy Halladay Blowhan Santana...........and now Stephen Strasburg what a tough division its gonna be huh lol
I think they'll break him down so he sits upper 90s. MLB has awful track record of improving mph once a player is drafted. They just dont want to injure the guys so they get fluff training programs and on top of that the pitchers have to work a lot more on location and changing speeds so the velocity loses emphasis. I don't think he'll lose much, but he wont be sitting 100+ as a starter
he's a beast, the only thing that makes me sad is that the 2 richest teams in baseball, yankees and red sox, will start brandishing their wallets first chance they get, i hope he sticks with the nats, but he probalby wont. Great young pitcher though
@newtriertrevian11 Mark Prior must have done some bad, bad things as a child because he was absolutely cursed (not to fuel the whole Cubs curse thing, but come on). I mean as dirty as he was his first year, and then he was never close again. The way he kept getting hurt was ridiculous
damnit i hate to admit it... but he is indeed awesome. I checked out all the hype on this guy and thought he probably got pretty lucky with his no-no in college ball.
that, and the Nationals expected him to be prepared to go from a 50 game college season to a 162 MLB season, 10-12 more starts with hardly any minor league training...he was bound to tear his arm up

okay hes at 103 tops plus major league training now, i say he reaches at least 105mph!

@cullen17whitephenom

@newtriertrevian11 You sir are brilliant

@newtriertrevian11 funny you should compare him to prior. hopefully injuries dont derail his career also...
