It is insane to me that this song gets played at July 4th celebrations. I can get misinterpreting songs that are vague, or even ones that are about negative topics, but are sung ironically upbeat (since the chorus will always be the most memorable part), but like, there was VIDEO for this one that spelled it out quite unambiguously (besides which, even the chorus references it; people literally must hear nothing but 'Let freedom ring...Independence Day').

If a woman is trying to tell people and send signals and they don't beleive or choose to be blind to it, they are all guilty. The guilt of standing by and not doing anything will eat them alive. The mother did what she had to if selfdefense. If it had continued, the daughter would have ended up in the same kind of life when she grew up. Men are good at fronting and women are good at hiding.

It's not just women that get abused. There are cases of abusive wives/girlfriends. The men feel just as scared, hurt, and insecure as the women do in these kinds of relationships.

I wish mainstream country music was what it used to be... good. Don't know what has happened since the nineties. Most of the artists have strayed so far its barely borderline country music. the sad part that happend to my mom when i was a baby i try not to think about it. but it stays with you forever even know you try to forget it...man should Never do that to their wifes if you loved them you shouldnt beat them up:(

there are so many abused people out there. if there was a couple walking down thr street and the woman was crying, i bet 99% of people would ignore it. dont. she cant stand up to the abuse shes getting, 1% would try to talk to them until they see proof and then call either the cops or the national hotline for abuse. like this if your on of the 1%

My best friend just found out her dad abused her, her mom, and her brother and sister. 12 years later she contacted him and he lied and told her they had a shitty case worker and he had nothing to do with it. If he ever comes around her i'll have something to say about it

I wish mainstream country music was what it used to be... good. Don't know what has happened since the nineties. Most of the artists have strayed so far its barely borderline country music. @Iloverandomness19 I was in an abusive relationship from the time I was 14 until I was almost 16. It's easier to say I'm leaving than to do it. You are afraid they will kill you if you leave or try to get help. They make you believe that you are worthless and can do no better than them. It's not easy. But PRAISE GOD I GOT OUT!!!!!! @TheManFromAcme Amen to you. I'm not a man yet, but i'm 12 very close to 13 and I have a girlfriend and I treat her like she is my pride and joy... because she IS my pride and joy! Men are not supposed to be abusive to their wives, or children, there supposed to care for them... It hurts me so much when I see a child or woman being abused... :(
