I am the owner of two very beautiful turtles, the same as your little one. I've read that many people buy turtles. But, at the same time, they let the turtles free into a river or ocean, which is BAD. I've read, also, that people only keep turtles when they're babies, because they're so cute. But, according to a boy who let his go,"Turtles are ugly when their older." My two cuties, Connecticut and Kentucky, will nver be let go under my watch. I love them, babies or now. I will always love them!

Yes, he is a red eared slider and they need water and a basking rock. I have one the same size. You can tell how old it is by counting the ridges around his shell and when it's a little older you can tell the gender by pulling his tail out. Females cloacas are under the shell and males are on the outside.

Do you have an aquarium for him? you should keep him. if you do get him turtle pellets and a fish tank. they cost not much about 30 40 dollars decent size one with a lamp and with a floating rock thing. They need to bask in the "sun" or light i should say.

A red eared slider (who just keeps getting bigger), a Midland painted and a cumberland slider (who is about the size of the one in the vid. I love turtles. I think they are really cool little creatures. But you have to make sure you can take care of them.

I found one bout that size it waz being attacked by bird we where helping the turtle survive and the turtle lived with us or near us for 5 yearz !Then he finally left.He always staye dnear the pon we built then i watched him travel to a creek

OMG it's so adorable. Mine grew really quickly over the past few months, but just like turtlesrock527 said, the're a huge responsibility. You should keep the baby on a meaty diet until it's older. Something about nutrition. Or Reptomin baby food, which is what I gave mine. And tiny pieces of shrimp. Moths are great, too. Read a lot about your turtle and also give it love ^_^ I don't care if people say it's not good, but I hold mine. :) and I cuddle it for a bit, watching TV :P yours is so cute:D

Its a hatchling red eared slider.Keeping a turtle is HUGE comitment and takes alot of equitment and i would know because im in love with them

1 10 gallon aquarium

2 high powered filter

3 weekly water changing

4 a basking area

5 a high powered heat lamp

6 turtle food

And thats only part of it. I think you would be better off giving him to someone who knows a ton about turtles that are kinda like me and buying a baby turtle rather than catching and keeping a wild caught one.

the biggest problem u may have is overfeeding it will only eat in water so give a little lettuce in the morning and some shrimp in the afternoon. dont give more food than about the size of its head

You must get at this point

1) at least a 20 gallon tank;

2) UV light for the little guy to bask.

You will also need a dry surface in the water for the turtle to bask. If he does not eat anything--he will probably like small pieces of Tuna.

My little guy was that small when I got him 14 years ago, he's now about 10 inches long and still cute. If you decided to keep him just remember that turtles live for a long time and can be a bit of work.
