i think there's a mind-set of being 'european' in that people in europe, especially northern europe, who don't wear their hearts on their sleeves. I think there is a definite mind-set, like the UK, France, and in the nordic countries,(including ukraine) where you don't pour your emotions out at the drop of a hat, and you're naturally shy and reserved not because its your personality(but it may be), but because it's the culture there not to stand out, and be loud and crazy unlike in the US.

Okay, I'm a part of Europe, and what Marjorie and Elina said is just not true. You can't blame your control and lack of emotions on being European. Don't paint us all with the same brush. It comes down to how you were raised, not of where you're from. I'm a bit like Elina in that I don't cry easily, only when I'm truly upset, but I don't blame it on the fact I'm in Europe! It's just how I am.

I can relate in a way, I grew up in a family that practiced this old British sentiment of the 'Stiff upper lip' - and that affected the way I show and present my emotions. Yes, I still have emotions, but when in others company I will repress them... especiallty things like tears or vulnerability. Its not just the location, its more the culture you grow up in. I wouldnt say its just "European" thats a bit bullshit.

I was born here so I grew up with a very strict, traditional childhood. It's all how you grow up and what your parents teach you.. Other people or people who don't know different cultures and how they really are, will NEVER EVER understand..

Sorry to say but Elina and Majorie, but their just insecure! I am from Europe and were not always negative (like marjorie says) and we can express our emotions (other than Elina).

Okay maybe it is harder to adjust in america from some people but don't blame Europe! They can alsoo say" yes I am insecure, trying to work on it, etc.... but I hate the fact the think their insecure/ can't express emotion becasue their from Europe

I'm from austria and it was very hard for me to get used to. I had to learn english, the way i treated others that had to stop to, and i am still a very negative person, so you have addapted faster then me and the others

i think they're blaming too much on the fact that they're from europe but the fact is that's not the only thing stopping them; they're doing it too with their negativity . it's hard yes, but they should try and let go.

First generation children do a lot of times have a harder time assimilating. There parents don't really let them embrace the new culture, they want them to act and relate to others as if they were still in whatever country they migrated from. This can create a gap between themselves and their peers that is difficult to deal with. These girls are still young and I don't know how many of them have lived alone yet, so their parents ideals are still wrapped around them.... hard.
