The marching band at my school did this in 2004. It was great, even though the duo in the beginning of ours (playing the oboe solo) was wayyyy out of tune.
our Concert band is playing the ascension this year, but i was looking into the other movements, and there quite something. We played another piece by robert last year, to the summit. good piece. i like to see so many bassoons!!!!! im the only one in town, and i want to go to university to get my performance degree, so ya its hard to find lessons!!!!

Not a very good interpretation. The conductor should have read The Divine Comedy. Dante was close to suicide. Each sin had punishment equal to a similar justice in the underworld. There were 9 circles of hell involved. This was too slow and too lyrical. Sounds like Dante got drunk at a nightclub in this one.
I dont think many pple have read The Divine Comedy to begin with. This is also what the conductor wanted, It might not be what your used to hearing but this is how it is at times. And its program music, i think people who have never heard this piece will have a general idea after hearing it.
I also had the pleasure of being directed by Robert W. Smith during this piece, and it was truly amazing! The story is incredible and gives so much more meaning to the music.
Pues sonáis de disco. Enhorabuena. Si pudieseis venir a Málaga me encantaría ir a veros.

Enhorabuena.
