Advise from Portuguese guy: Choose the best fat sardines..only put salt 5 min before grill..when the skin is golden on both side is ready to go!! Serve with grilled green pepers with salt, vinager and olive oil. And boil some batotes. This is the real grilled sardines
Do you gut the sardines, before you cook the fish. I am planning to have a little party to share this wonderful way of cooking sardines. We have many local portuguese stores that sell them, with good portuguese bread and wine - vino verde- the best... Ken Waterloo Ontario Canada
I'm cooking these up for dinner tonight - many thanks for the tips (mine have been soaking in a marinade of olive oil/lemon juice/olive oil/cumin/garlic and stuffed with fresh sprigs of thyme. Time to ge the grill going!
I'm Scottish but I love to visit Portugal and have been to Fatima a couple of times. Fatima in October is a crazy place. I love the food over there and the sardines in particular. Grilled sardines, potato, green salad and a good Portuguese rose is unbeatable.
I haven't been for few years but when I was last there it was very cheap and you could eat very well.
Hi people im portuguese,my name is pedro and i want to streighten somestuff out! SARDINES or (sardinha)as we call it is not for the virgin mary celebration in fatima only its a normal evry day meal and mostly regarded to the saint.antonio celebrations were its free! for some peoples question no you dont have to worry about the bones they can be eaten with no problem just dont try to eat the spine, and like some people said it is usualy acompanied wth boiled patato and a salad WE LOVE IT! On one slice of bread accompanied by a simple salad of lettuce and tomato, seasoned with olive oil, vinegar and oregano, and a glass of good red wine, the best meal of the world. An extraordinary fish, the best in the world.

the best is about 5 minutes each side. And for control flames you can use ashes above embers ;) this form you do not burning sardinha.
Guys do not use the type of flame in movie, or you do not get the great flavor of sardines ;)

JZJYRWO 2 years ago
What's a bone fish? All fish have bones, except for jellyfish..
CookingWithDadTV 1 year ago
What she means to say is, aren't you getting bones in your mouth when you eat sardines off the grill like that?
JZJYRWO 1 year ago
you will only get bones in your mouth if you put them there, if you do, pick them out. It's all part of the fun..
CookingWithDadTV 1 year ago
@JZJYRWO you can eat the bones, theyre crispy not dangerous to eat

i live in florida, we have alot of little greenbacks( pilchards), can i cook them like sardines?
businessbmw 2 years ago
Yes, pilchards are very similar to sardines and also available in European waters. If they're too smail your better off frying them..
