Yours came out nice! I bought mine for cheap on Ebay, so I didn't pay a lot. I don't think it's worth what they ask on the infommercial. Anyway, I must've not used enough nonstick spray because it stuck to the mold and the top fell apart. Hard to stick it back together to make it look nice, and then the frosting didn't stick well to it after that. Also didn't think about planing it down. Ugh. Looks atrocious. Next time I'll know better.

In regards to having to cut a bit off the top piece, that's what you usually have to do with cakes. It's nothing specific to this pan.

But you wouldn't store it in the molds in the refrigerator or freezer, would you? Wouldn't you bake the cupcake in the mold, take it out, fill it and store it some other way? I can't imagine putting it back in the mold once it's filled and frosted.
