I'm not glad they didn't make a second season. I am glad they didn't make THIS second season.
While my heart aches a little at the thought of never getting to see the group through their journey's end, I know it would have been a more painful ache to see their personalities perverted all for the sake of "what the masses want to see".
This could have been one of the greatest scifi stories of all time, and instead it stands unfinished for all time. How tragic.
It's my understanding that the show was killed from within because they did not want it to go off in this new horrible direction. It was said to be something of a mercy killing.
So sad they cancelled it... used to love watching as a kid and even more that the re-pitch was so dumbed down (funnily foreshadowing the idiocracy we currently find ourselves in - 2011) I really miss smart programing - heck, I was just thinking of how one single episode of Earth2 has more substance than all of what I've seen of Terra Nova (ie: first 5 episodes) and more... Hey, anyone ever watch Space Above and Beyond? that was fun... though not as smart. Or what about Seaquest (DSV)
Earth 2 was a high quality show, being sci.fi while still looking believable and realistic. I sooo want the story continue, but when I see this promo, I'm glad the show is dead. Guess I'll buy the DVD box and watch it over again :)
Also, getting there is half the fun. That was THE WHOLE POINT. They cannot make that end and have them land in Pacifica already, that's crazy. Urgh. I am glad it was produced. It would just have been another political drama with sci fi jargon. Thanks but no thanks. As someone else said, Restyled, Revamped, Repulsed.

Of course the original premise was too smart but not boombastic, sexy and explosive enough so they had to dumb it down for the general masses to like. How pathetic. I am glad there was no season based on this junk. Morgan provided interesting comic relief, Danzinger was not just an angry aggressive man, he was a thoughtful man and they made Alonzo the pretty boy with magic powers. Yikes. No more trekking alien territory, no more encountering strange phenomena, no adventure. Just bad.
As much as I love Earth 2, looking at this I am really glad they didnt go on to season 2 as imagined. There was sthg intriguing about them traveling all alone through the vast landscape, the mysticism that lay in the air, the moral challenges they faced being on this long trek, the dangers of the unknown landmass, having to struggle with basic survival. etc. The promo looks like they just would have cut through that and they made it to Pacifica too soon. No more adventures and just politisized
I searched season 2 for Earth 2 a while ago and the story line didn't match up completely with this promo, what I read I liked better than what they came up with from hiring a new producer. I guess I'm glad that they didn't continue it if they were going to follow along with what this promo showed.
Why they actually thought it was a good idea to promote the fact that instead of continuous plots and clever stories, we're going to retool this is purely stand alone action/adventure with the reset button push, I'll never know!
At least NBC had the balls to turn around to the "producers" who came up with this piece of bile and say "No, you've completely destroyed the show. We're not going to pay for this, as we'll loose the few viewers we have left"
@toyota4you I was really young when this show came out, and I was really drawn in by Uly and True's characters as they were the only two children in the cast. I probably wouldn't have watched the series if they hadn't been in it, and then I wouldn't be the fan that I am today!
Well I "liked" the video just to keep it handy in YouTube, but it makes me SO glad the series didn't get a 2nd season, as sad as that was. This "promo" video makes me ill!
@Earth2Kim Haha, thanks for the reluctant "like"! You may be the only one who bothers >.< I almost didn't wantto post this because it was so bad. But bad or not, it's a bit of Earth2 history, and there's not much left on the net for it anymore.
I saw this years ago on someone's webpage and it's just as bad as I remember it. I also remember a caption on that site saying when Sullivan Walker saw this clip, way back when, he laughed his way through it. LOL! I always liked him!
@TKG889 Sullivan Walker is great, isn't he? I just adore his voice. Yale was always one of my favourite characters. I'm sure he couldn't have felt thrilled about just being so casually written out in the proposed new season, but at least he could laugh at it! I can only cringe when I watch it >.<
@irata2006 Yes, well, no one liked the changes they had in mind for season two, and that's why it never was made. A shame they spoiled this great show.
@edifyyo I think most of the fans feel the same way when they see this footage. It's a shame we couldn't have seen Michael Duggan's pitch for second season, because I'm sure it would have been great. But it's nice to know that people are still out there who know and love the show! :)
@irata2006 As a matter of fact, it is not fake at all. The history of this footage is available still on E2 forums if you google it. Obviously we can see that there's no new footage, but we know that's because season two was never produced. With no new footage to use in a promo, they had to borrow snippits of concepts from other sci-fi and fantasy shows to try and create a general idea of what the next season may look like and include. Don't forget that this was a 95 TV show on a low budget.
@irata2006 Actually, this is how pitches for new shows (or mods to existing shows) are done even today - you pull clips from any sources that evoke the look or feel of what your new show will accomplish.
Thanks fo uploading that...I think the only good thing would have been Morgan dying - never liked his character, although I don't think he was dominating. I had to LOL at what they planned for Alonzo. Seeing this almost makes me glad it ended on a high note even if it was all up in the air.
@CornflakeGirl101 I don't dislike Morgan too badly, I think he fills the important role of "the mandatory character that people like to dislike". And he's a little bit of reality, as otherwise it would be all courageousness and stoicism, which would just be unlikely as so many people in reality have a little bit of cowardice in them. I think he does kind of improve a bit as the series progresses, so it may well have been an interesting future character development plot we could have enjoyed.
@CornflakeGirl101 That said, I have to agree with you about the ending. Even though the series ended with Devon's life hanging in the balance and our favourite intrepid space pioneers facing an uncertain future, I'm rather they ended it like they did. It wasn't such a dire ending that it felt as though there was no hope, and at least being an open ending we can imagine creative ways of continuing the story ourselves :)
I never thought I'd say this but thank God they cancelled it. If this tripe had been made, it would have been a disaster. It would have been Murder One all over again...
@davisxl1 I think most fans have the same reaction unon seeing this. It really is just terrible, and it would have COMPLETELY distroyed everything that was so good about the characters and the storyline. I think Michael Duggan did a good job as producer in the first season, if only they hadn't gotten rid of him thay may have been able to make season two even better! Such a shame.

If they just killed the kids off at the beginning the show would be a hit!

It's a fake. It has footage of B-grade movies and scifi shows like "Guyver" and "Captain Power" spliced together with footage of Season One.
