Theirs a great scene in an old movie called longest day where an officer of the free French army is aboard an American ship at normandy and he nervously says "we must now fire on out beautiful homeland" we must fire so as to drive the enemy out!" theirs also this French guy who's house gets blown up but he's so happy his homes being liberated he's crying in joy.
You know, this isnt far from realism. It is quite what actually happened. The allies bombed out most of Europe, including its allied nations, like France as they show in this cartoon.
@JaxOf7 Don't look at the sailor but Popeye as what was seen as a representative of American culture just like Mickey Mouse. The Nazi's used Popeye as an example of America turning on the French and also for the French not to trust America. Has absolutely nothing to do with sailors and everything with a popular image of America.
I've never thought of how the german portrayed us (U.S.A.), but using our popular cartoon characters was an interesting twist. Although I don't agree with Hitler, thank you for providing this new perspective!!
@howdy131 That was the point. History by its very nature has different sides to opinions. To understand the enemy one must study their propaganda also.
Great Cartoon!!
