  • Phyllis' family is from Greensboro, N.C. Phyllis use to come to Greensboro a lot to visit her grandmother. Every time she visited she would do interviews on the A&T State University's radio station (WNAA). She was very down to earth and a very genuine sister. She is truely missed by all.

  • I miss you Soooooooooo Much. RIP

  • Yes celestialpathway, Phyllis Hyman was very beautiful and also very talented. This is my favorite song by her.

  • There is indeed no other like phyllis..miss her gift that will always be cherished

  • U ARE SO RIGHT@AKAZIAJ MANY OF OUR MOST POWERFUL AND INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE SUFFERED FROM MENTAL DISORDERS, DONNY HATHAWAY, PHYLLIS HYMAN,

  • WE MISS YOU SO MUCH! WISH YOU WERE STILL HERE! YOU ARE THE REASON WHY I SING!

  • This is my most favor song by Phyllis. This is her greatest song. I heard this song when I have a teenage by in the late 80's. I then knew what love suppose to feel like after hearing this song. This is a great wedding song, when I get married this will be the couples dance song. Miss you Phyllis. You are soo missed and loved. I wish you knew this before your death. See you later in Paradise, Rest for now. You and Vesta love both of you.

  • So fabulous. So beautiful. I miss her so much. I think she had a lot more to give us.

  • Omg, why don’t people stop associating Phyllis with mental illness and death? It’s so depressing! She has too many GOOD WORKS that have NOTHING to do with those things. Joy and pain is a part of life to those that LIVE it to the fullest. Let Phyllis keep her good reputation of delivering good lyrics in song & leave her tragic story be told to those that seek it. We come to U TUBE for her music. I don't think her rep deserves to be treated like one in the tabloids(negative comments).

  • I love to hear phyliss hyman growl in her songs

  • This is one of my favorite songs, no one can sing this better than phyllis! She takes yo you to another level on this song. I also love (your move my heart) just classic!

  • I miss her good vibes! RIP Sweetness!

  • Phyllis's face @ 3:49 OW! I just recently put my mom's hair braider on to her about three weeks ago. She told my mom that since then she hasn't been able to stop listening to her music.

  • i LOVE HER AND HER MUSIC....

  • @Chocolaht I love her too. I want to copy her.

  • @Chocolaht She had a very beautiful face! Don't you agree?

  • tears for days

  • I walked down the aisle to this song.

  • !!!!!! DIVA ,DIVA DIVA DIAV .MY BEST SINGER.SHE WAS SO DOWN TO EARTH . WHEN U LOOK UP BEUTIFUL ......I'M SURE HER FACE IS THEREEEEEEE..........LUV U

  • This is the first song of Phyllis hyman i've ever heard and when i heard it years ago when i was a child i never knew who this was until i found an old cassette tape called the prime of my life and became an endless lover of everything phyllis

  • @sexytrackstar2008 there was nothing wrong with her. Although she did have a drug problem and took her own life (overdosed)

  • @tinkiedavampire S he doesnt have a drug problem she had clinical depresion and she was bipolar.

  • She had the most beautiful voice ever. What a beautiful classy lady. Ashame her condition led to her way too untimely passing. I have this song on a tape and still wake up to it every morning. God bless her.

  • Phyllis Hyman, gone too soon. LInda Jones, gone too soon. So much heart put into their songs it is hard not to shed a tear; feel a tingle deep inside.

  • great artist that missed fans downloading and sharing their hard work for free

file sharing hurts man.....it really does.

Wasnt bad enough people were stealing the music now they have sights to

share your music. Thats straight disrespect...mothafuckas have the nerve

    to call themselves fans too.

Phyllis was the sound of WHUR ...we grew up on this lady.

  • This is truly a beautiful sista with an even beautiful voice. We as brothas must not forget how important our Black women are to us,with out them we are non existent. Love them, respect them, nuture them, protect them. And the legacy of who they are like Phylis will always live within us. RIP my sista, you are truly missed. Much Love

  • someone inform me about this woman what was wrong with her? i am only twenty and i am always trying to make sure i learned about african american history and this is apart of history

  • GIRL ! I MISS YOU

  • My God how beautifully gifted... I was privileged to see her perform this at Blue Alley in DC! Love and miss you dearly Ms Hyman! An angel among angels!

  • this was my first heart throb.... my heart still crumbles at her leaving me here with just memories of her and her music. she continues to be the echo of my heart

  • Her aura remains so pure, so beauiful, and mahogheny rich...thank you very much for posting this.

  • @akaziaj I commend you on ur understanding of Mental Illness. I just got into it with one of my favorite nephews about my illness. Our relationship is over because of ignorance and not will to learn about it. Phyllis I knew was not going to make it she was letting us know in her music. That Bi-Polar highs and lows/manic and depression is no joke... I suffer with it my self and when she killed herself I cried like a baby....Much talent and beautiful woman inside and out just lost in confusion.

  • @justmefonow You keep hanging on my friend. I am praying for you. Know that you are loved :)!

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG OF HERS.

  • I will always love this song and this wonderful woman! I miss you so!

  • thanks to @akaziaj. I believe we all should look into our mental health like we would for a physical wound.. It's people's judgemental labeling that makes people silent, but in the long run, paying attention to it will really help.

  • This woman is the definition of class, poise, elegance, beauty, talent! A woman of dignity and even in death she did it with dignity!

  • RIP.....truly a beautiful women w/a beautiful voice

  • its been 15 years today. R.I.P. Phyllis

  • i miss her but she left timeless music thank u Ms Hyman

  • the creative are always struggling with the mind . I glimpse of it is brett michaels and cindy lopper on the apprentice. They seems like random thinkers but are quite intelligent and creative and talented.

  • Gone too soon! It broke my heart when I found out that she had taken her life....I was out of it for at least two days....I loved {love} her..... She is so missed....Its hard for me to even listen to her sometimes bc it still tugs at my heart...but at least we were blessed to have her for the time we did

  • He (MR. Yeah) dedicated this to me tonite.... Loving Me Some Him!!!!

  • LOVE LOOKING AT HER SING

  • I listen to this cd when I went through my pain, over and over again. This cd help me get back on my feet.,I never looked back. There will never be another Phyillis! She past the night when she was to appear at the APOLLO. When you are down or going through a break up pull this cd out,

  • Having heard Debbie Poole do this song tonight at Si Salsa, I had to dig back...Debbie has the right to sing this...you know what I'm saying if you know Debbie :) Two very infulential people came up to me after she sang to ask about her...this bodes well for ALL of us! The joy of life expressed in music - is there anything more wonderful? It's the closest to God we can be...exxcept for babies being born!

  • shes greatly missed but rest asured shes mos def at peace.lov u phyllis

  • some cat put me onto this song years ago

  • simply the BEST!!!!

  • This particular is a classic. I love you Phyllis and I miss you so much.....

  • One of my fave songs by Phyllis

  • My all time favorite from Phyllis Hyman. I definitely relate to this song in many many ways, thanks again Phyllis, love you much and always will. irvinbean

  • If only i was given a chance to see her live... :o(

  • I feel her spirit and her passion for Love. She is like everyone of us who yearn for the Love that we know we deserve. May God be pleased with her.

    TinaM

  • @tinadenisemuhammad I couldn't agree more, so well put into words.

  • This is my absolute favorite of Phyllis' many fantastic songs. I was lucky enough to see her perform in live in Washington, D.C. .... I still miss her and wonder what gorgeous notes we never go the chance to hear.

  • Unlike many of today's singers, her voice is the SAME live. No studio tricks on the album.

  • @raynoma1 I was thinking the same thing. Who in todays music can do the same? She is truly missed.

  • this clips hurts my heart so much. The pain this woman must have been in and we, most of her fans, never really knew. What a talent. truly called to minister through song. so sad she couldn't get the help she obvously needed. and too bad she couldn't live her life free and full of love she so richly diserved.

  • She touches every feeling you have in side of you! I never got to see her in concert. I know she is resting now. My heart goes out to all who knew her and loved her as a Human Being!

  • You have said what I have felt for so many years. It took me years before I could play any of her songs. I met her at the Black Expo in NY. She was standing behind me at a Jewelry display....Tall, Striking and Regal. I was in awe!! She graciously gave me her autograph and two weeks later, met her again at the Aruba Jazz Festival. The Miller Beer concerts on the Pier in NYC were the best. Funny, I never heard the pain in her songs until after she passed. She was awsome. Miss you!

  • R.I.P.BEAUTIFUL BLACK QUEEN>

  • To my sister in Spirit, how lovely you are,

Now a beautiful angel among the stars.

Your so missed by many, but still as close as ever,

Because with all the love you shared, it'll always keep us together.

    We Love You Phyllis

  • i never knew she was that beautiful!

  • She sung with so much passion and feelings!

  • This song is so beautifully sung by the Great Diva Phyllis...she makes you melt then cry and get chills with her voice...so many emotions.

  • Ahhh...I love this song! Its so refreshing, and makes me wanna tear...beautiful!

  • i think im addicted..i cant stop watchin her videos

  • i dnt know why im emotional watchng this video.ive seen it 1000 times!..

  • I love this song....makes me cry too!

  • i creid wen i read her boi. hav u read it?if u havnt u should!!its wonderful

  • I love this woman! She is an all-time favorite! My mother adored her, even worked with her a few times!

  • All the good ones never get the recognition that they are entitled to. My mother was so hurt when she committed suicide.

  • YESSSS!!! she is one of the top 5 best female singers Ever!!!! Perfection she is. why was she so damn underrated

  • SHE WAS ...one of the best ever, but she was underrated because she wasn't liked in the business. i knew her in philly, and she was difficult to work with, not really too diva as much as mentally ill (bi-polar disorder) and exes in the recording industry didn't want to deal with her.

  • Not denying her illness., however, many people who stand for what they believe in are often call crazy. Socrates, Aristotle, Jesus Christ.

They also usually represent the genius of the age.

  • @akaziaj But she was mentally ill..

  • Her mental illness was a part of her like any other illness. However, it should not define the whole of an individual. Again many of the geniuses of history suffered with various forms of mental illness. Do we deny the diabetic the right to define themselves as more that just a diabetic. Why would you treat mental illness any different? It is this kind of attitude that keeps many from seeking help. The fear that they will be define by their illness.

    In light and love.

  • @akaziaj Well said!!! totally agree! She will be missed)) She was A Great Great singer!

  • And that can never be denied.

  • I agree akaziaj. And it didn't help that her bf had a lot to do with the final outcome of her life. The big A. It would drive many of us to do something we might regret the morning after....if we could survive that one night to see the light of day again. Minnie Ripperton is another great one who left a whole in my heart.

  • The big A being her addictions?

  • @akaziaj Beautifully said. Phyllis Hyman was a Goddess. She is beyond missed. Depression forced her to commit suicide many years ago. She was truly in a class by herself.

  • @akaziaj Thanks. I believe we all should look into our mental health like we would for a physical wound.. It's people's judgemental labeling that makes people silent, but in the long run, paying attention to it will really help.

  • This is truly a classic... what a voice and what a beauty. I can only name a few artist out here who posess the same trait as Phyliss and all the other singers Beyonce is a class act like Phyllis she is just from a differnt generation so is Mariah, Jill, Chrisette, India and Erykah and yes lady Gaga once she lets go of all the gimmicks and let her real talent show becaue her voice is beautiful.

Phyllis just had to sing she had natural grace and elegance so do the women i mentioned above.

  • To understand Phyllis is to see beyond her actions and hear beyond her words. Truth of the matter is Phyllis was EXTREMELY protective of herself in reguards to just how far she would allow people "behind her veil" or into the depths of who she was, because it would reveal a lot of painful scares that had never really healed and cause her to become vulernable of which she wasn't having. Phyllis is a beautiful spirit and always was, but for years just terribly MISUNDERSTOOD. Bi-polar....hmmm??

  • Timeless!

  • YES MAAAAAM!!!!

  • She will always be a DIVA

  • Phyllis Hyman was in the tradition of the old jazz divas: Sarah Vaughn,Billie Holiday,Ella Fitzgerald ,Dinah Washington, Carmen McCrae .She was an awesome talent- Truly a class act-It's sad that she suffered so much sadness in her life and died so young. Her legacy will live on .

  • my favorite female vocalist of her era.Special very Special

  • this is my favorite song by Phyllis it touches my heart i have to hear it over and over i love her i wish she was still alive R.I.P Phyllis you are sadley missed

  • I miss the wonderful concerts of Phyllis, what a powerful voice! RIP my sista!

  • i love this song!! i listen to it every day! this will b my wedding song

  • Comment removed

  • This was my wedding song 2-17-07.Miss you Phyllis! And Thanx for all the beauty you left with us!

  • Wow - I didn't think people still used this as a wedding song.... This was my wedding song in 1992. It just shows how powerful this song is...

  • incrediblely talented and a very beautiful sista, her music was so emotional and heartfelt,R.I.P sista.

  • "I'm sure we're meant to be here, sharing the love we share." The love of Phyliss Hyman!

    Meisha Moore

  • powerfull singer

  • Her suicide note read in part: "I'm tired. I'm tired. Those of you that I love know who you are. May God bless you."[2]

    Too sad...

  • everytime i hear all of her songs i want 2 cry they r so beautiful

  • they have her lookin like a egyptian queen

its clear that she was not being treated like 1. We miss u lady

  • I think what bothers a lot of people is this notion that someone as beautiful/talented would take her own life. It almost seems that we give to much authority and wisdom to people like her, who we assume are smarter or better than the rest of us. Im not saying this to be disrespectful because Im a HUGE Phyllis fan but I think thats the case here. Phyllis was just as human as the rest of us, maybe moreso. Bi polar people are said to be extremely "self aware". I can only imagine her success today.

  • i seen her story on Unsung heros on Tvone was a great story of a great singer i was shock that she was born in 1949 Wow she was older then my parents i'm gonna do some research on some of her early albums kinda like the sound of them like the 1978 and 1979 album--since she was born back in 1949 some of those Sistas back then didn't play--On her story she didn't like alot of orders she like thing her way of the highway

  • I saw Phyllis several times at Blues Alley Jazz Club in DC and I really wish I could have gotten the chance to know her in real life. She lives on through her music and she will always be loved as long as we the living carry her in our hearts. If I was older, I woulda definitely dated her......no doubt!

  • What a presence she was!!! I get sad when I think of how lonely she must have felt.

  • as long as the videos and recordings exist Phillis Hyman lives!

  • she was sooo pretty and classy

  • attaalib I agree with you because we all loved her so much we still stuggle with the pain of losing her.Plus the fact as how she died haunghts us.I believe we share the thought if only she could have gotten the help she need, maybe things would be different

the truth is, she was given many chances she was in such as state she had deep demons and I believe she thought she could handle them.

She couldn't and give up.Now we all share her pain and the great loss. What a talent!!!!!!!

  • I saw the Phyllis Hyman Tragic story on Tvone last night, and i felt so sad. She was so lonely and sick I just wish she'd gotten the right medication and counseling.Such a Great Loss, I felt as if she had been a sister of mine, who just needed someone there though her rough times.

  • I get choked up thinking about her when she sings, she was really.............wow I can't describe it...sob

  • Looking at that beautiful and sexy woman makes me sad for obvious reasons...

However, this song and her version of "Betcha By Golly Wow" are favorites of mine... Knowing that she blessed all of us with those incredible songs to listen to makes me happy!

    Thank for posting!

  • A Ledgend

  • The class, talent and beauty of Phyllis Hyman make her unforgettable! May she rest in peace!!

  • I was very fortunate to see her sing live in the summer of 1992. She was truely an amazing artist. She will be missed.

  • AMAZING WOMAN

  • This was the song that really got me all in a hypnotic trance. She did a superb job on this song, as she has done with all of the rest of her songs. I wished I could have had a chance to talk with you personally to maybe try to stop whatever before it would have started. In any event Phyllis you are greately missed. Your voice will always live on with me forever and forever. Rest In Peace sugar. irvinbean123

  • Irv....u sound like you're in love w/phyllis just as much as i am. When i watch footage of this beautiful woman, it's like tears well up in the back of my eyes, as if i personally knew her. I love her.....

  • i truly understand her pain because i live it now i love you phyllis r.i.p i too shall be at peace one day soon

  • We'll all be at peace one day, but for now dear one please cherish each day and hang on. Life is worth holding on to, I know. I suffer from depression and sometimes its struggle just to get out of bed in the morning. Something inside tell me to get up, I just might miss something good and I do. Please don't quit now, look at the other half of the glass (the half full side). Whatever you need to do, do it, just don't let the bastard (death) win, you're worth more than that,YOU ARE LOVED. I care

  • you're right, that we are loved... by God Himself, even though we don't deserve it...

He's the only Person who loved us so much, He clothed Himself with flesh, gave His life... for our sakes, to save us from our sins, and the consequences of it.

Only Jesus can bring true happiness, peace, guidance, and life. And the best thing is.. He never changes! So no matter what happens in this life.. He's always right there beside me, leading, guiding, teaching, LOVING!!!

  • I feel what you're saying...you're on the right track but... You're confusing God and Jesus. Jesus was the one who died for our sins and God was the one who gave him up for us. God is the father of Jesus and us all. Rest in peace, Phyllis.

  • accctuallly...God is triune, existing the persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. but hey, lets enjoy the song!

  • It's about time someone make the movie of the incredible life of Phyllis Hyman. It's over due.Who would play her? While we have some great female vocalist out there who is actually about 6ft at least? Opps Alicia Keys! Perfect person and Vocalist. She brings the drama to her live performances.

  • I grew up on this lady's music..artist like her made you think she was part of your family when you hear them sooooooooo much. Miss u madly Phyllis.

  • I am a number 1 fan i have been threw the storm with this sista we share alot... She will always be remember......NaNa08

  • boobies lol

  • such a beautiful tone, control and mastery of her craft. I'm 23 and I remember when she died. This is one of the greatest songs of all time. She was truly a gift and tremendously underrated. She will be missed.

  • What a fabulous voice!!!!!!Love her. Miss her

  • Classic beauty and ABSOLUTELY AMAZING talent! The album version of this song is much more haunting and beautiful. Miss you Phyllis!

  • its true.i have the cd ultimate phyllis hyman"of her hits and the album version its simply superb you got to listen to it over and over again.

  • Sometimes i can't even get half way through one of Phyllis' songs with out crying. I truly loved her music and she was so under rated by so many people. It's a shame that a wonderful artist had to be such a tragedy.

  • There will never be another Phyllis. I wish she knew how much she was loved and admired.

  • The only song of her's that really brings tears to her eyes is "Living All Alone", I can just imagine what she was going through, what her heart was feeling when she sings that

  • I love phyllis hyman beautiful woman and voice. Good misic

  • DandJRuffin....very well said. At least some info from someone that knows what they are talking about. RIP PH

  • This is one of the only songs that can bring tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful.

  • I miss you, Phyllis.

  • i´m still sory. the show was great i saw in ´94 in the blue note. the best i can remember.

  • I love this song! I didn't know she died. That's a shame.

  • I am so hurt that my sister left the way she did.

  • OMG I love this song.

  • my favorite song from her .I discover her music 4 years ago . I dint know that there are videos of her!!!!.Im a true fan!!!!!.r.ip. phyllis, the best singer in the world!!!!

  • Simply beautiful.

  • I saw her in Baltimore in the early 80's. I love this song.

  • The Lord won't put more on you then you can bear. People who commit suicide are weak and can't handle what there are going through, so they choose to take the easy way out which is ending their life. It's sad and unforunate because life is about pain, happiness, crying, laughing, smiling, frowning, and all the above. It's all about how you deal with your life situations. Trial, tribulation, obstacles, hurdles none of them last always. Keep a positive outlook on life and u can make it!!!

  • LadyA712, you are 100% right...My god u really opened my eyes about my life and where its going and so many times i've got burned and thought that would be the easy way out (suicide)but it's true if u belive and hang on, you realize how important life really is and you can have so much of life and its pleasures. thank you LITTLEMANRRAY

  • We have to remember that Phyllis was bi-polar and manic depressive. she also had a family history of psychological problems, her mother suffered and several siblings had the same problem and her father was an alcoholic. I believe that the Lord won't put more on us but clearly let's be reasonable. These bodies of ours are human and since the fall of Adam have been subjected to disease and sickness and that was a large part of her problem, coupled with self medication of drugs and alcohol.

  • Suicidal people are not "weak," they are seriously ill. They can't regulate their brain chemistry. Just as diabetics can't control their insulin levels by sheer will. Clinically depressed persons can't control his/her serotonin level in the brain. What the Lord did was to give her an illness (like cancer, for example) that was allowed to run its course unchecked -- probably because those who should have known better thought she was only weak.

Get scientific information before you judge people!

  • Thank you so much for posting this been waiting for more of the divine Phyliss. I was fortunate enough to see her twice in London and in NY at the Apollo. A unique talent and a beautiful glamourous woman like Luther,Donny and Marvin taken from us too soon. These performances last forever. RIP. xx

  • Those 80s' shoulders!

  • They just looked great (to me.) lol

  • When I watch her perform, its hard for me to believe how unhappy she was with herself! She was absolutely amazing in every sense of the word! She was like a goddess...if only she could have seen what the world saw! I still love Ms. Hyman...

  • I just love this woman!!

  • The exceptionally talented Phyllis Hyman was one of those rare artists that could convey pain with her voice. Her range was amazing. I loved her early work with Norman Conners. May she continue to shine!!! RIP
