Holy crap a kid's film with badass creatures and the kids use shotguns!? This proves just how awesome the 80s was, they had balls, unlike today's neutered down crap.
It's always weird when you randomly remember/talk about something you haven't thought about for over a decade, only to have it randomly in your face on youtube not long after. WEIRD.
So this is what gave me nightmares, make me afraid to go upstairs, be alone and have total fear up until I was 8? My mind processes everything to male it more scary than it is
This was a great movie. I remember being about 6 or 7 years old when I saw this the first time. I remember being genuinely scared at times, and I remember laughing at other parts (e.g. wolfman's nards). This movie is classic, I highly recommend it.
@brnleague99 they don't make these "kids save the day" movies anymore. I've always wanted sequels to my three favorites: The Goonies, The Lost Boys, & Monster Squad. We're on 2 garbage sequels for Lost Boys but none for the others. P.S. they've already got a remake in the works for Monster Squad. Cheers.
They shouldnt remake it only because...well, this movie is crap, but was made in 80's and its fun only because it has that campy 80's feel...and in modern times, it just wont work.
I always wished they'd made a sequel to this movie. I envisioned the villains being more classics like The Phantom of the Opera, The Thing, The Blob, The Bride of Frankenstein, all being led by Son of Dracula Alucard. Wishful thinking.
the sequel would be cool but like i said before they have to at least have Andre Gower and Ryan Lambert in the movie or otherwise i won't see it cause for me Andre and Ryan are the monster squad and no one can be as good in those characters as they can!
the only way i would watch the sequel or remake is if they have Andre Gower and Ryan Lambert in the movie cause for me those two are the monster squad and no one can replace them so they better be in it!
terrible trailer. Made it look like a zucker brothers comedy when actually it was a hell of a lot more dramatic...the comedy came from the kids reactions and the audiences warm recognition of the classic horror elements inserted into the modern suburb.
Hollywood...seriously need to actually work and make new films. I mean how many classic cult 80's and 80's films can you remake and ruin?
Good god...thank god I was lucky enough to watch these great films the first time around. Seems as though Hollywood have nothing better to do than to remake, filsm that don't need to eb remade.
At least promote the greatness of the films and re-relase them in the cinema!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Instead of a remake, they should do a sequel that takes place 12 years later and has to do with some kind of Lovecraftian millenium cult. The recurring characters would be in their late teens or early 20s and would be played by different actors. They would all retain their original skill sets but would be more experienced. One of them should be like Burt Gummer from Tremors (let's say Horace just for the sake of irony).
love this movie, i bring it up all the time to friends a fam. and no one knows about it. but its up there with goonies with me. is it better no not really. but to me in my opinion it just reminds me of being a kid like goonies. and the never ending story is another one. my generation didnt use the cgi stuff,
@johndoe590 You know Micheal Bay. All he wants is to get people entering his movies in theaters so his bag of money could grow. On the bright side, at least he tries to bring a story, the complete opposite of Ronald Emmerich. That dude doesn't give a sweat about stories.
i seen this movie long time ago, im 16 and i think i saw it at age 5 when i seen it with my brother, i realy love old movies i realy hope that thay dont do a remake of this
I like seeing comments from so many people around the world who shared the same movie experiences as me regarding what I thought was not such a popular movie. It is the same with the peanut butter solution. I bet someone here used to watch that as a kid too, and probably got freaked out by it as well ha ha. It was weird.
I really HOPE they dont decided to retool or remake this movie and many of tha great comedy, horror, and sci fi movies from tha 80's and early 90's.This movie was tha shit sooo many good lines and tha action was good.Hollywood is running out of ideals I mean seriously ever fuckin show, cult classic,or cartoon doesnt need to be captured in live action film unless its Ninja Turtles they need a new live action film ASAP!!
"A remake of The Monster Squad is being produced by Rob Cohen and is currently in the planning stages.[4] Platinum Dunes will produce the film and Paramount Pictures will shoot the project[5].[6] Writing team Brian and Mark Gunn have been hired to pen the script.[7]"
@TheRealAkaRai I hope they leave it set in 1987. Or sometime in the '90s if they really have to depart from the source material. I disagree its not a lousy movie. And I'm not talking about plot. I'm talking more along the lines on what people deem as entertainment. For example the 'special effects' contained in this movie would be unacceptable by today's standards. I'm not dogging the movie, just saying that audience today has become a lot more spoilt/high maintenance. Just an observation.

@TheRealAkaRai I hope they leave it set in 1987. Or sometime in the '90s if they really have to depart from the source material. Every time they do a remake and bring the story into present time, they make it unrelatable because they're too preoccupied with modern cliches, internet memes (which I'm cool with if left in a proper context), product placement, 2much cussin, and overuse of cellphones. I mean, look at the NES version of Bionic Commando compared to the new one. Same with Splatterhouse.
