Good one!!! Hopefully someone from H.D. will see this clip and this will become their 2013 Forty Eight.I would buy a 48 tomorrow if it had a fuel tank with a realistic capacity.Once again, nice bike mate.
666Serpico... Congrats on the new 48... its a great bike! If you just put the pipes on the bike will run just fine. I had these pipes on pre~heavy breather with no problems... and I put aftermarket pipes on 2 Buells and multiple dirtbikes with zero problems. Having said that... if you change the intake (breather) you may have to get the Stage 1 Heavy Breather download remap. For HD to put on my Heavy Breather AND do the download it cost me $600... seems like your dealer is being honest with you
Thanks guys... appreciated. I wish I would have made a much clearer video but unfortunately I will not be able to. I had to trade this bike in on a truck... I still have my Buell and Super Moto but I sure miss this thing.
I love the changes you made on your bike. I got the same one except a 2012. I bought the same pipes and I will buy probably the same Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather air cleaner ::)). I didnt put the pipes on yet, however I contacted the dealer and told them that I was gonna put the vance and hince and the air cleaner and they said that I have to do the Dyno tune...they also said that Stage 1 will not work and that the Dyno tune its a must...IS THAT TRUE OR THEY JUST WANT THE MONEY?? ....$650 :(
@666Serpico i think they just want the money, because from what I understand as long as you aren't planning on using your bike strictly at the track, all you really need to do is get something like the se super tuner to reprogram the ecm(although that's kind of pricey itself, but still cheaper than the dyno) hope that helps!
Hey ConfederateGypsy... I think it handles great. I have had it up to 90 mph a few times and it handled just fine. No wobbly\squirrellyness\etc. My Buell XB12S gets puckerish at 120 and my WR250 at 80mph so I definitely know what squirrely is. None of that in the 48... especially at 70mph. My biggest issue with the 48 is the poor brake performance compared to my other bikes. The brakes have led to quite a few pucker moments... BUT... they do the job... just not as good as others.
pafaloelcy... thanks... the intake is the HD Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather intake.
dlat88... indeed! I just posted vids of my 08 Buell XB12S and Yamaha WR250X... having a stable of bikes can lead to a sickness of sorts but you only go around once so... whenever possible the more bikes experienced the better
Sweet! This will be my next bike. Recently, I rode a stock 48 and fell in love!
Been riding an 08' ZX6r for a few years but I am really liking the Harley 1200's. I used to say I would never get a Harley but you got to ride one. Funny people get one bike and they "think" that they know it all, but I plan to have at least four different bikes. H#ll with buying a new car.
The 48 in my opinion is the baddest Sportster of them all, H-D always tips their hat to the past and the 48 is a great example of a classic Harley Davidson. Enjoy your ride and ride safe bro..
xskater... I got the seat from the dealer... it was a take off. They put it on since I was there but yes... I took it off and on a bunch of time to switch it out with a Reach seat. Very easy to put on... take you about 1~2 minutes max.
kpb96m1... I didn't replace the 2.1 tank with a 3.3 solely for the additional gas... I really like how front heavy\bulldoggish the profile looks with the larger tank. So I was never overly concerned about fuel mileage... but sure... I definitely wanted to get more miles between fillups.
In regards to my being back to where I started in fuel mileage... In short I was getting around 75~85 miles on a 2.1 fillup stock. I'm now getting about 120+~ish per fillup with the 3.3+ stage 1.
Its interesting how you were concerned about your fuel mileage and took the time and effort to replace your gas tank to extend your ride. Then you turn around and add a high performance air intake and pipes effectively turning your AFR (Air–Fuel Ratio) from a conservative, efficiently burning stoichiometric mixture, to a highly oxygenated lean mixture (very fuel inefficient). Your essentially back to where you were if not worse. Not criticizing you, just pointing out. Its a nice looking bike.
Thanks again for the compliments! Hey NubsWithGuns... I guess you can say thats what I'm going for... a blacked out (with subtle hints of chrome) for a hot rod\ muscle car sort of vibe. xskaterpunkowns... thanks... that 48 stock seat is wayyyy not functional. It looks unique but every bump (and it could only be a cig butt bump) feels like its going to buck you off the thing. This is a stock 883 seat. I plan on getting a Corbin in the near future.
@gene1221 Ahh did you put the 883 seat on yourself and did you order it? I'm looking to to the same to my sportster, I was originally gonna put the 883 tank but I like how you used the nightster instead. The contour fits much nicer on the bike, I still want to keep the orange color as well.
hi, great looking bike, looks better and has a meaner look to it than the stock 48. only too bad that the it already is a little dark in the movie, we could have enjoyed even more. You haven't posted any pictures of the bike?
Thanks Redline! yes... the 3.3 gallon peanut will fit with the stock 48 seat. I bet that would look really cool! I sold my stock seat when I first got the bike because it pretty much felt like I was sitting on a paper plate... hah. Having said that I'm thinking it would sure look cool with this meaty front end.
Thanks for the compliments once again! Yes I try to keep the bike simple\clean\ and mean :) I'm not a huge fan of the blinged out chrome, raging flames, bad airbrushed chicks, and tassles. One addition I made since creating this video is I put on a National Flyscreen... its a very small windshield. Its blacked out with a small chrome mount which matches the bike perfectly. 17c47... I removed the front fender from my Buell actually... I luv it!
Best sportster I have ever seen! I love the blacked out engine as opposed to the nightster but love the nightster tank as opposed the big graphics of the forty eight tank. Well done I was looking exactly for a picture of your bike and came across this in the google search.
Really awesome looking bike! Tastefully modded! Looking into buying an HD, I really like the look of the 48, but it's got no rear seat, riding around Amsterdam on it would be fine but I wouldn't see myself riding it to Spain...
Thanks for the compliments! agentry880... personally I do not feel the 48 would be a good starter bike... The 48 is fairly heavy for a starter (640 lbs) and the braking isn't sufficient for gaining "starter" experience. I've slid the rear tire quite a few times. I would start with something smaller and affordable to gain "road" experience. Boulevard 650\ Rebel\ Ninja 250\ maybe even an Iron if you prefer a Harley... something that size. Ride that for a few months then roll up to a sporty.
Hey speedfre... no I don't have the baffles in the pipes. They are loud but I wouldn't consider them too loud I guess... but thats up to the individual. I had a Buell 1125 CR with a Jardine RT5 pipe and I would say that setup borderlined too loud.
Hey Chris, thanks. Yes, I'll try and get another video up here soon... maybe this upcoming weekend. Other than having more miles in between fillups I really like how the 3.3 gallon peanut tank makes the bike even more front heavy\ bulldoggish. It really fits that 48 fatty front tire.
Hey Bike looks great. I'm thinking of puting a Nightster tank as well. Can you post another video in better light and do a 360 of the bike. Would like to see the tank in better light. Sounds Great. Love the 48.
Thanks craigbrown. I really like the tank for its fuel capacity over the stock 48 tank. I decided to get the nightster tank because it came in the "vivid black" which is the stock color of the other elements of the 48. Eventually (hopefully soon) I plan on removing the decals and getting a retro style Harley Davidson metal logo placed on the sides of the tank.
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I forgot to mention that I do have the SE Heavy Breather remap. So this does indeed have the full stage 1 treatment... Heavy Breather, Vance and Hines pipes, and electronic remap download.
After viewing this video I sure wish I would have made it during the daylight hours. It was beginning to get dark here... which makes it kind of hard to clearly see the bike.
NICE bike ! you have installed the exhaust system , stage 1 heavy breather air cleaner kit however , does super tuner re-program ? i mean did you purchase the SE Super Tuner ? hey look on my bike on my profile .
That bike comes pretty close to what I think a Sportster should look like. Nice one!

How does this bike handle? I read one review and they felt that it was not trustworthy if you got over 70 mph. What is your opinion?
