great bike, I have an 08 w 3x3, jetted, full yoshi. an fcr is next then I am good to go. big bore is also a great thing but really not needed. almost zero maintenance w these bikes but yes ktm husky are better. I want zero maintenance and cheap to fix si I got the sm and very happy w it.

the carb are the same from the older model a mikuni BSR36 , maintanence is cheap like all single cilinder bikes, millage i guess is about 70 mpg or similar

Can someone please clear something up for me. I want one of these bikes and wanted to know what they are like maintanence, power and fuel/mileage? Also I heard from someone that the Offroad versions have more power than the onroad/SM versions? Is this true?

Can you, or anyone else please explain why the US of A allows riders to ride without helmets. In Australia it is very much compulsory, which is a good thing. But you guys refuse to protect your heads, why?

only a few states allow riders to rider without helmets the rest including mine it is required by law.. Im in my driveway goofing arond. I always wear a helmet but i was only showing the bike off in this vid. the second I go out of my driveway i have my jacket gloves and helmet on ALWAYS.

Well from my understanding, some states don't require helmets if you have proper insurance, but most states require helmets. At least that's what i was told

Why must you lump all Americans together? Just because some Americans refuse to protect their heads doesn't mean all Americans are that way. I am sure their are some Aussies that refuse to wear their helmets as well!

aloha my brothas! im thinking bout getting a dual sport, ive been a sport bike rider all my life, but im gettin older and want something more upright and fun to ride. i was thinking of a drz400sm or the yamaha / kawa dual sport. the dual sports look the same, but whats the difference in power etc... as i have no clue on these bikes..

new yawa are terrible, big, bulky..yamaha is good dual sport, husky, ktm, aprillia are da bomb but expensuve to fix and constant maintenance. Suzuki sm is a great bike - if its strictly off road or 80 off 20 on get the suzuki 400 drz,, the suzuki super moto is da bomb though and engine is bulletproof. You can do burnouts wheelies all day long and that engine will never break.

I would recommend the Klr or any other larger bike. the drz has a seat like a 2x4 and would kill you rear on a long distance trip. There are some aftermarket seats out there that are more comfortable.

400 sm by far is better, alot a lot easyier to maintain even for un-handy people . the new kawasaki design sucks and they screwed up a great dual sport bike. get a 650 honda instead of the 650 kawasaki. The 400s suzuki is great for 80/20 riding.

Ill anwser that for ya, I have got mine going 85mph tops so far. I belive it can go faster just might have to hold the throttle there for awhile. So I usaly ride mine at 75 mph on the freeway just because its an easy medium. It perfres 65 to 70 and well do that no strain. Gas milage 50 AVG agressive riding of coures I wiegh 140 lbs.

the suspension is mostly for street but yes you can have a set of dirt wheels with a rear sprocket.. swap em out and hit the woods :)

i take mine off road with the street tires on it.. small stuff.. just make sure its not wet.. best thing to do is have a street bike and a dirt bike.. because with either you will want the other.. if that makes any sense..lol.. hope i helped :)
