I saw them open for Jawbox in '96 after "Popular" was popular. They were the best opening band I've ever seen. They literally played the whole first CD from start to finish...not really. They finished with "Sleep".
I agree they dont play this one live and they should, it would be a great show starter. Since they usually finish up with Blankest Year these days. But this first album had some layers you needed to uncover, some of these songs took a couple times playing for them to grow on you.
This is such an awesome song. Too bad the recording quality sucks so bad. It sounds like it was recorded on an 8 track tape. And I'm talking about the album, not just this YouTube version. If you don't believe me, listen to it with quality headphones you'll hear what I'm talking about.
Poor recording quality was done intentionally. Most '90s bands hated the "pristine and immaculate" overproduced sound of pop and stuff, and preferred a more lo-fi sound. This band doesn't even come close to as lo-fi as large amount of bands got in the '80s and '90s.
One of the best top 5 songs in 1996
amaizing how few people know about this great band
Incredible album..classic

agreed, its not the best recording quality, but it has its value though. It sounds raw and like your band next door.
Thats what i like about this album the most, aside that each track on it is a pure gem.
