@JohnnyDesaint Well, you're looking for a Ford MEL engine (came in 383, 410, 430 or 462). It's also possible that an FE block from a Galaxy 500 or something may bolt up...the MEL and the FE supposedly had the same bolt patterns. What transmission are you running?
@BlaeceAelf im hoping that i could find a donor car from te 70s that has an engine and tranny that would bolt up.maybe a 302 with a c4.i really would like a 300 i6.thanx for replying1
@JohnnyDesaint why the 70's? I'd shoot more for a 64/65 FE block (maybe a 352 or 390) with a cruise-o-matic 3 speed automatic. Or you could go with a Ford Y-Block (292 or 312) mated to a Ford-o-matic transmission...although this would be more difficult to find parts for. I'd probably stay away from the 70's era engines...right when smog controls and such were being implemented and most were not well designed.
@JohnnyDesaint you should have more than enough room for an airbag setup (done properly) with an FE block in there. The 300 i6 is going to be very underpowered for that car in my opinion. Just my opinion that is...but you did ask :)
@BlaeceAelf thanx for all ur help ,i appreciate your input!but didnt these wagons come with 223 i6 ?.thats smaller than a 300.and they used 300s for dump trucks.i had a 300 in my work truck and i would pack it with dirt and it had power like hell.
@JohnnyDesaint they did come with a 223 i6...it was underpowered. The i300 can be tuned up into a decently fast motor with aftermarket components, but out of the box, it's low horse power high torque (just like the undersquared 6-230 tornado in my M715). That's great for a truck, but not so wonderful for a car, especially not one where you may be cruising at highway speeds of 65mph for any period of time.
Very nice. I have a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Club Sedan restoration project. I would be so happy if my car was at your point and i could drive it to school, practice, home, the teen life and show her off. But she's far from it.
Nice. That beauty looks like it has some real resto potential. Something like that with some bodywork (doesnt look like there's any real rust) and interior freshening, and we could see this thing on Barrett-Jackson! Cool car.
yellow and cream white, Dad traded for a 63 country sedan with 289.maroon color.then we grew up to Cars ,no more wagons.
