@drawesome2000 They were called jump turns. Back before shaped skis, that was really the way to make turns on steeper slopes. While they're still around and used by pro big mountain skiers, shaped skis gave them other types of turns at their disposal, as well as more stability in deep, soft powder.

Watch some of the old Warren Miller, or Glen Plake and Scott Schmidt videos from the 1980s. It was the way to get down sketchy terrain.

@MrVolcom7 : Back in those days skis weighed about the same as a pair of railroad tracks, and since too much flex resulted in zero grip on ice they had to be long as hell to absorb the impact from higher drops, which made them even heavier. That's why these guys seem to be off balance. Also, touring skis were totally rubbish for tricks; there were no light weight cool looking helmets and no Gore Tex wind breakers or gloves... These guys were legends!
