  • Same track, four years later Didier had his terrible WC leadership and career-ending crash. What a shame

  • pironi goes hard into turn 8 @ 3:21

  • Have you ever seen a "race" with... a speed limit??!! Now you have it: it's called "Formula One" (sic)

Our grand-fathers engineers who spent their lives making cars faster and safer wouldn't believe it.

  • Geez how gnarly was the " old " ostkerve !!!!!

  • This track was made for Motorsport - The new track is made for money. :(

What a shame. This track was classic!

  • @ledaf41 most definetely

  • thats perfect!

  • That Tyrrell doesnt seem quick in a straight line

  • @12345andy54321 that's because of the camera on top the car. In those days they weren't that small as they are today. They were video camera's and not digital.

  • @12345andy54321 : Pironi has a Cosworth-Ford V8, and for the most part I believe he's following two flat-12s, a Ferrari and an Alfa Romeo, and they both seem to absolutely smoke him on the straightaways. Since putting a camera on a car was a performance-robbing hassle in those days, one can't be sure about whether that handicaps significantly.

  • I hate the middle east tracks they always throw up boring races on lifeless deserts. What is wrong with people these days?

  • Ah, this nice long old track and this cars with aluminium chassis.

Imagine how the feet of these drivers must have hurt because of gearshifting.Put your foot away from the throttle, push the clutch pedal, move gear shifter, put away foot from clutch and accelerate again.

  • D: I wouldnt even step into that thing let alone going 150+ mph D:

  • still can't believe they totally raped this track

  • It's awesome to see that brabham ahead with Alfa v12 pulling away in the straights, and then the nimble tyrell catches back in corners. Such difference in the cars made it so much more interesting. And ofcourse the old track :c

  • Yes, they fucked it all.

  • this is Hockenheim!!!!

  • thats right.i too think that the old track was better as the new

  • Didier "deserved what he got"...what a terrible thing to say. I can't believe some of the insults people still throw at Pironi. Watch the Imola 82 race and you will see he actually didn't do anything wrong.

  • I miss this track so much...It might have been boring to some...but it had charm...when they cut it up into pieces for the new track....it was a sad day for F1..Didier deserved what he got...selfish racer.

  • I enjoyed the days when F1 had race cars, not four-wheeled computers.

  • Skilled driver, but too arrogant to be the World Champion. His career ending crash was provoked by an unnecessary risk that he took in a very wet practice session. After Gilles Villeneuve was killed at Zolder, Pironi had the title in his grasp until he was beaten by the only man who could stop him: himself.

  • @FrodothePuppet

Ferrari asked Pironi to test the new Good Year wet tyres at Hockenheim. He didn't do it because of arrogance.

  • And then THE wonder happened: Keke Rosberg became champion with just one victory.

  • @KillerDreck89

Happened to Mike Hawthorn too in 1958. Sadly Stirling Moss had 4 victories and lost the title to Hawthorn who just had 1.

Rosberg was a smart driver. His cool win in dreadful conditions in Dallas 1984 proves that. Also he won the rain soaked BRDC in Silverstone in 1978 driving a Theodore-Ford outdriving two time champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Others like Lauda, Hunt, Andretti and Peterson all spun out. Not Keke is his 2nd F1 start.

Rosberg didn't have the best car in 1982.

  • Didier still in my memories

  • pironi...one of the most underrated drivers, if not the most underrated, in F1 history

  • Some of theme absolutly! 1982 was his Championship, he was the fastest.

  • didier was a brilliant racer, his career ended just as he was approaching his peak in F1...

  • I agree. Great driver. He was the true 1982 champion. Once in Ferrari, always in Ferrari.

  • Well said...and Didier wouldn't have made the mistake Arnoux and Tambay made in 83 and thrown the title away. Pironi drove for Ferrari, therefore he is one of us.

  • Sure. He is still one of us.

  • Didier was a huge driver...He was a champion

  • man do i miss the old Hockenheimring

  • we miss... old hocken , old nurburgring , zeltweg , i m here thinking , what the fuck am i going to show to my son which is one year old now.... while the fia constantly seems to search for money and not sport and entertainment... last thing .... dudes... prepare .... we are going to see races in india ... bloody hell !!! in 2011... where the fuck will be f 1 in 15 years , and last imola was destroyed after senna s death , chicanes and more chicanes ... so long , hug from brasil

  • this track ended his career later in 82.... the true champ of 82 , rip pironi

    hug from brasil

  • F.I.A. just wants to race in places where they can make money...i mean, if you race in bahrain you will have just 2000 people lookin' the race, in the nurburgring you can have 10 times more people, but in bahrain the people will pay 10 times more than in nurburgring... and like this, F1 ends in shit...-.-"

  • Geniale!!!!! Dommage que les mouches a merde se scratchent sur la camera.....

  • Great clip, many thanks for sharing. Smooth as you like, great speed in a car that let him down so often.

    Truly great driver.

  • ah.. looks so summerous..

  • He should have been the first French F1 Champion of the world.

    He was a king.

Rather good than Rosberg or Villneuve, Arnoux or prost.

  • I really miss the blast through the forest. I hate the modern circuit revisions.

  • Yeah, I loved the slipstreaming battles on those straights. And all the trees made you realize how fast they were going.

  • @aljuk Totally Agree With You!!! I. myself, can't stand Tilka's new tracks! Ah, the old days... Don't see why, with all the safety (cars and tracks), we couldn't have some of the old Greats back.

  • Excellent videos really lovin them..

  • old hockeinheim with the long straight!! That was something!! Nowadays modifications of hockeinheim are really terrible :-(

  • hockenheim without chicane before ostkurve - awesome!

  • C´était un grand champion.... Comme Gilles....

  • Absolute awesome!

I love all the clips you've posted of the F1's old days. Thaks for sharing it!
