@neweast1 That's what I thought, too, but apparently, this airplane (N614FF) was ex-Qantas and never flew with Japan Air Lines. I guess someone from the movie just liked their color scheme.
the most amusing part of this movie and the most funny is when stubs and the agents board the airplane and gain access to it on a electric luggage platform lift from the ground. its amusing to see how a dangerous criminal is given a state of the art method of boarding the airplane which is quick and efficient which lift them upto to the door imediately and the passengers have to use primitive slow methods waiting in line. just imagine boarding an airplane in real life via a luggage lift
This movie did'nt have a lot of technical direction. Toward the end, the FBI scrambles a Navy F-14 instead of realistically using Air National Guard F-16s to shoot Transcon 47 down. For such a star-studded cast, accuracy was obviously at the bottom of the list!!!
They actually used a Tower Air 747 to film this. An intresting note some may have noticed is that on departure from 31L at JFK in the departure clip they made a right turn out which is non stadard. My uncle was a CA with Tower Air when this was made. They used a fake 744 cockpit for the flight deck scenes.
Painful movie to sit through. It made me want to see Airport 1977 again, or maybe watch(again) Airplane: the movie. Anyone familiar with basics of the 747 will find the technical errors maddening. The worst thing that can ever happen to me in this life would be to have to sit through this lame a.s.s. film as an in-flight movie...ouch!
I love Lauren Holly's coarse, sandy voice. I like her short, sassy hair. I love her pretty face. I jerked off watching this movie 13 years ago. Thank you Lauren, thank you so much !
@robert0joe There are exceptions, though. In "Cast Away", it's a FedEx aircraft that crashes, and in this movie, the pilot that talks Teri down is mentioned as being a Tower Air flight instructor (no coincidence that Tower Air owned the aircraft used for filming).
Movies are fakes. Air Force One still using standard gauges as you can seen at Discovery channel where they take the camera inside Air Force One. Of Course, airliners won't spent unnecessary budget for upgrading the classics cockpits.
@nickazima08 Check out "On Board Air Force One" on Youtube (If it's still around) It shows you inside the cockpit of AFO and it still has the same analogue gauges and switches of the classic -200 series
@Lew747 almost every airplane movie in the 80s/90s was recorded in the same mockup. It was drowned in 2000 when 'Cast Away' was recorded. Someone has to build a new one - but airplane movies have fallen out of fashion since nine-eleven.
If I knew how to Upload movies on YouTube I would for those who would like to see them. I have all three Turbulence movies. Have a safe and happy July 4th 2009 to those who celebrate it.
There's a saying in the industry, "Once you've been a flight attendant it's in your blood." I miss it. Everyday is a new day/flight, It's not for everyone. You either love it or hate it. I loved it.
As a former F/A, I was very pleased to see that Hollywood didn't make he F/A's look like sluts or stupid in this film, i.e., coffee, tea or me. Lauren Holly who plays F/A Terri Halloran did a great job. FBI Agent Frank Sinclair says, "How can she turn it around she's only a Stewardess?" Rachel Taper responds sharply back at him, "She's a Flight Attendant." It's just a fun movie to watch. I enjoy just about any movie that has to do with F/A's and planes.
FYI, this movie will air on CINEMAX channels, i.e., ACTNMAX on these days: Monday at 10:30 a.m. -12:15 p.m., PDT, Tuesday at 5:00 a.m. -6:45 a.m., PDT,, and, Thursday at 2:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., PDT. Check your listings. It beats renting it through Netflix which both DVDs were scratched. I've been wondering why this movie hasn't aired since Turbulence 2 and 3 are airing and have aired. I agree Ray Liotta should have one an Oscar for this role.
I remember watching this the night before I was flying down to Barbados via Dallas and Miami.
I was literally laughing my ass off at some of the faults, but then I remembered that it's just a movie. I mean, if everything in a movie was realistic, then hell, it'd be boring.
Plus, about 90% of the traveling public have no idea of the SOPs during a flight, so in reality, the minority 10% can pick out the faults easily. Movies are meant to entertain, not be factual.
Well whoever said, this film was F.A.A. approved, didn't.......... its a flagrant attempt at action adventure, a farce to be sure and definitely not approved by the traveling public. Let us not over pick the faults bevause the damn thing has already been released in home video format and is off theaters every where.
You gotta face facts, most standard aircraft piloting proceedures have been violated here, but its more a focus on a single woman saving the plane, like Karen Black in Airport 1975. Lauren Holly was a mess by the end, probably hoarse and definately in need of some breast enhancements, at least, if your gonna dress her in a slip, during the majority of the film.
Another thing, why did the co-pilot leave his seat? He was supposed to control the aircraft, not look what's going on in the back. Especaially if he's the only one in the cockpit.
747-400 style flight deck in 747-200 aircraft again... it is a common mistake in airplane movies. Between 1:30 and 3:10, it appears that they simply manipulated the footage of a stable flight. Also, at 2:21, 2:27, & 3:05, the ailerons were in the position to turn the plane in the opposite direction that it went in the film (example, 2:27, plane configured to turn right, it turns left) The nose dive at 2:32 seems faked, just rotated footage of stable flight. Also, 11 passengers is not economical.
You also forget to notice something else. During the rapid depressization--normally a white fog emits. Although they did include the suction of debrie I'll give them that. But why didn't the oxygen mask drop?
Yes, through prisoner transport. It's bit fictitious, since the domestic carriers I know of in the U.S. do not transport criminals on normal scheduled flights.
Yes, it was repainted with a Japan Airlines base tailplane texture. And no, it's just a movie. The Autopilot would never fully invert the plane, if it is engaged.
