Hey does anyone if a paramedic drives the helicopter? I have trying to research this for a while, it'd be great if someone gave me an answer. Thank you!
@LifeSeven17 I'll make three point here; 1.Nobody drives a helicopter. A person “pilots” a helicopter. That's why the person is called a pilot. 2.It would be very difficult for the paramedic to attend to the patient while piloting the helicopter. 3.Paramedic training does not involve anything related to piloting an aircraft. I'm thinking it is more likely that there is a pilot piloting the aircraft. I certainly wouldn't want to be nearby if a paramedic ever attempted to do it.
@DVDluvr123 so your point #3 is not entirely right many paramedics in my area have a pilots lisence and can probably fly the aircreaft better than most piolots also the 7 medics i know with a pilots lisence flew heilos in combat

Good video. I liked that you took the time to plan out some of your shots (rear hatch doors opening with a PTs view) and you did a fine job with the post edit tempo. I really didnt feel it with that song though. I watched it a second time with some more dramatic music playing on my computer. I look forward to another HEMS video!
in a city like dc how much would an ems heli pilot make?
I really want to fly ems when I finish my commercial license get the hours etc. etc, but from what I've read and even an ems pilot I spoke to I've learned they don't make a ton. I'm not looking to get rich, I didn't choose this career for money but from what I've read I'd be better off flying beach tours as far as money is concerned.
Most HEMS pilots have a minimum of 3000hrs so they get descent pay but not near what they should for their service. They usually make between 65k a year up to about 90k depending on length of service.
Don't do it for the money. I work half the year, get paid a decent salary, and fly EMS helicopters for a living. Doesn't get much better. You can make good money once you get some experience and are willing to travel. I will make over 90K this year. Could be worse.
im still in highschool but im highly intrested in being a paramedic untill today were a paramedic flight came to our school and talked to us he said he gets paid 90k a year for doing wat he does so i figure thats good pay also he said that their are some horrible things u will witness and do not even consider this career if ur not good with liquids i forgot to mention he said that for every horrible sight u see theirs a 1000 good ones to make up for it and a millon more funny ones
Feels like I up them again. The MedStar crews are the best folks. I took my ride-a-long a few years ago and it was the most amazing experience of my life. Keep up the good work guys and thank you to who ever put this video together.

@DVDluvr123 for some services the pilot must also be a paramedic and or a Pre Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) also referred to as a flight nurse
