I've beaten 3 STI's, and one I beat a few times. When I say snipe, I mean no STI is expecting a Miata to be that fast. I think they are accustomed to chasing down anything. I know a guy with an 11 second Miata, I am sure he beats them all the time. I am pretty sure the guys I beat are afraid to break drive train components. They DO crush me at the track but they are ready to race hard even if not to beat me but to get a good time. Anything under 1/8th mile (light to light) and I got a chance..
I guess nobody has heard of a bad run, it was a turbo, race ready, full roll cage, no interior, etc. His other runs were almost 2 seconds quicker. Some nights your car for whatever reason runs like shit, I've seen top fuel cars turn 14's when things go wrong.. I had a night where I did'nt even get into the 14's.
if the Vdub ran a 14 second run, there's not chance in hell that it was an R32 Turbo. Maybe a normal R32 or a 1.8 Turbo Anniversary Edtion which looks like a R32.
Or he had a bad run, 14.1 is faster then stock, hey I've had my share of bad runs, wheel spin, boggin down, bad shift etc.. his other runs were in the mid 13's, IT WAS IN FACT AN R32 with a turbo, I caught a lucky brake with this loss. I know a turbo r32 should crush me, but that run he only beat me
by .3305... hell I almost lost to a Focus my first run!
My miata hooks awesome... In fact I just replaced differential #3! At the street tire night drags, if they catch me its after 70 or some mph. I've never had anyone keep up thru 2nd. (I'm sure their are plenty of cars out there that can, I've just been lucky!)
At least the VW had to chase you down! I'm sure at a little traffic light blast to 60 or so you would have smoked the FWD VW! Doesn't sound like your Miata has any problem hooking with the power you're making! (mine either! JRSC 90 1.6! 14.77 @ 90!)
Actually hooking up is a problem, it takes a lot of clutch/throttle work to keep the tires from spinning, I have a rear out of an RX7 I am going to weld up solid. As for light to light, I can snipe STI's.

I hate to say this but no Miata is sniping STI's.. AWD get off the line a lot quicker. I have a vr6 and I crush Miata's...
