WYWH was one of the most stunning achievements in rock and roll history. I can't listen to it when I drive because I'd get so mesmerized I'll drive off the road.
again great posting good to see people out there with a taste for real good british music, dont keep comparing badfinger with the beatles, badfinger are just that, pete ham was right they didnt need anybodys help they were good enough to make it on pure ability, shame about the management, they deserved at least that, the real nice guys just dont get an even break, thanks for the music , hows it goin up there?
tis a shame so many people never hear this, or ever will. I play Badfinger songs all the time for my 2 teenage sons so they understand what real rock is about. God, I love this band, and have over 30 years!
Joey was introduced to me backstage in 2006. What a great guy! This song is one of my favorites...been listening to it everyday in my car over and over this entire month! Thanks for posting!
This was on the album that Warner's pulled from the shelves because of business problems with the band's manager. This song was a top 10 hit that never got to happen.
This was Badfinger at their absolute best. Great combination of Pete's song with Joey's song. Their harmony is also wonderful. Great musicians and composers who each added so much to the band.
Thanks to all of you for such great comments about one of the most talented groups in rock history. You and I will always know what a great treasure they are today, tomorrow and forever.
Yes, for us true fans we know the reality of this superb band. The music they left us is the most important factor to us sill here. What we need to do is expose this music to those who don't know otherwise. I too, find it difficult to put on "Head First", but when i hear Pete counting in to the opening track my spirit soars.
Please as a favor to myself and many others who will watch it, post "Lay Me Down" off your "Head First" CD. No one else here on You Tube has it.
This is one of my favourite songs on their greatest hits CD- i really love how it is two songs in one- both amazing.
So far, I only have Their greatest hits and their "Badfinger" CDs (the only ones i can find in stores). Both are terrific. I'm hoping they have some Badfinger CDs in the Virgin Mega Record store for when i visit florida. If not, i need to buy them from Amazon or Ebay.
For a personal glimpse at the talent and genuis of Pete Ham you should get the cd's "7 Park Avenue" and "Golders Green". They both are full of demos Pete recorded on a little reel to reel before they were complete songs recorded with the rest of the band.
Actually, "Wish You Were Here" WAS released in the States, but it was out for only 6 weeks before Warner Bros. pulled it because the group's management had basically pilfered money that Warners' had put into a bank account for Badfinger...their manager took all the money that the group was supposed to make from each of the albums in their contract. It's a hard album to find. I have 3 copies of it, tho. I guess I'm lucky.
The Album "Wish you were Here" was not released in the USA for some reason. If you can get it, You won't regret it. It is the best they did. One of my all time favorite albums. This tune is on it among other great ones you may not have ever heard. Fantastic Album!
You're so right. WYWW is one of my favourite albums by anybody. Chris Thomas was producing them by that time and he really helped to bring the very best out of them.
such a pure and smooth rock.these Pete and Evans, they were so talented. In my opinion though somewhat lesser than lennon-mc.cartney they were few of the musicians that deserved to be called genius.
This is excellent. On Badfinger's final album "Head First," not released until the year 2000, there is an even more dramatic song called "Passed Fast." It really gives a great sense of what Badfinger was going through in Pete's final days.
I agree . " head first " is a great cd . "passed fast " is a really tight song that i loved the first time i heard it . I wasn't too amazed at how the band laid their claws into stan polley in songs like " hey mr manager " & " rock n' roll contract " It still hurts me to here tom evans singing " you made me your slave , and whatever god gave me ~ you took to the grave now it's gone " god rest pete , tom & mike . WE ALL MISS YOU
I'll be honest and say I own Head First, but have not been able to listen to it. The few small cuts I've heard break my heart. From clips I've heard, Pete and Tommy's voices, such beautiful instruments, sound so strained. As the song says, "it just makes it hard to lose."
It's amazing, a guy like John Lennon, who was all about peace and love, gets gunned down at the age of 40, yet a cold blooded bastard like Stan Polley lives to a ripe old age. It's a crying shame...
I try not to be sad about what happened...but what a great UNDERATED band...5+plus hits and they were broke?!?...track down that manager and STRING HIM UP!!!...'nuff said!
When are we going to get an official Badfinger DVD, or a Badfinger bio film?! This bands story is better than Johnny Cash,Ray Charles,Bob Dylan,The Doors,Richie Valens, and Buddy Holly's combined, but just watch, they'll be a "James Brown's lifestory" film made before they'll ever make a Badfinger movie! A disgrace! Wise up Hollywood!
Understand all that you can and forgive everything of a young, passionate, talented group of incredibly talented musicians. They wer e an anomaly: talented musicians whose fame whose only error was in trusting those who led them. Don't let their talent be dimineshed by it. They were true, talented, good kind men. Love them for that.
Yes they did have issues with Polley. They eventually pulled the album from stores because they thought Polley had taken money from an escrow account. You can read more about it in Dan Matovina's book "Without You".
brilliant song from the best album badfinger ever recorded..wish you were here should have pushed badfinger to the very top of the tree alongside thin lizzy, deep purple, led zep, pink floyd etc..etc....but it wasn,t to be...stan polley made sure of that.......r.i.p pete ham you,re music will live forever...r.i.p tom and mike....
Thanks so much for saying so. I think family meant a lot to Pete and he would appreciate your compliments. You're from a good family with a great relative to be proud of. Best wishes and prayers to all the Ham relatives.
A thumping masterpiece indeed. To me it's the plight of man vs woman and man vs life. So deep yet reaching so high. ONLY Badfinger could pull this off.
This song is a real masterpiece in so many ways. Its hard to describe its reflection of what was going on at the time without sounding maudlin. The lyrics speak for themselves.
For all the uninformed, it is Wish You Were Here (WYWH). Also, Cool pics!

I've never of them heard before, they're not that common in Hungary...
Like the exciting mixture of the CCR and the evergreen Beatles!!
Best ever!
