  • no geddy lee? just makes the list kinda weird.

  • Shavo Odadjian. He should be in there. Shavo makes some pretty good stuff, like the bass line for BYOB is almost identical to the guitar part. Shavo Odadjian and Justin Chancellor are the best in my opinion, at least when it comes to creativity.

  • ummm.. Geddy Lee??

  • all my playlist

  • Steve DiGiorgio needs to be included in the next list, along with Geddy Lee. But, you have Flea, Les Claypool, Justin Chancellor and Victor Wooten so it's all good.

  • justin!!!!!

  • what was that bootsy song???

  • Wooten *-*

  • I agree with AgnosDios about Geddy Lee. He should be there.

But so should Muzz Skillings (who is an incredible thumper -Living Colour)

and Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. Good choices though.

Personally, I think Les Claypool is the best of the lot and Justin Chancellor

is the most innovative/ creative. Just my opinion. Cheers! = ]

  • @British0Pixie as the info states, the video contains "some" amazing bassists, sadly cant please everyone, chancellor is my personal fav, amazing creativity

  • @toolrockhard I'm aware of that love. My comment wasn't

meant as a knock on your list. I was just giving an opinion.

Enjoy your day. Cheers! = ]

  • @British0Pixie I agree 100% on Claypool and Chancellor! I have seen them both live----absolutely amazing!!!!

  • @296jacqi Thanks love. The Bass is an underrated instrument and I for one enjoy it's complexities as well as it's power to totally add major thump to any song but at the same time be very fluid and melodic as in the example shown by Victor Wooten at the end of this clip. The chap is a genius. Keep rockin'. = ]

  • Where the fuck is Fieldy?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @Codyisthebest1000 hes more than likely at home writing very basic bass lines :P

  • @toolrockhard I like Fieldy, but I dont think he should be in a "Great bassists from all genres." kind of list, like this is. I feel like he should probably be included in a kind of "great bassists from strictly Hard rock/Nu Metal/Metal kind of list. JUSTIN CHANCELLOR FOR EVER.

  • thanks for including MR WOOTEN yeaaahh!!!!

  • wheres cliff??

  • you have Les Claypool, Justin Chancellor, and Flea in here, so my long search for a legit bass masters vid has come to an end, thanks to you my friend. :D

  • what was the rage song you put up?

  • @azansherif93 Bullet in the Head, Take the Power Back, Freedom

  • excellent selection!

  • Cliff Burton...

  • Great list. But for Myung, why not put in the solo bit in The Glass Prison? Not the intro, the epic shredding bit towards the end

  • Comment removed

  • what's les claypool playing? sounds a bit like king crimson?

  • What about that guy from bela fleck and the flecktones. The black guy!

  • @MikeWJones1497 His name is Victor wooten. He is in this video

  • I met Jaco at the Brecker Bros club in NYC back in the day.

  • Timmy C!

  • the pedal board you see in the picture for justin is the travel sized version of his real one.

  • Tim has the world record for dopest tattoo

  • TIMMY C. What a guy!!!

  • Myung looks creepy ... but plays very nice

  • john entwistle?!?!?!?!? T___T

  • very nice list...

  • Justin Has the most psychodelic bass lines and Lay the weirdest, both are great

  • Aram Bedrosian has been left out! You put him in NOW! :)

  • @smileyman455 NO!!! Thanks for watchin

  • @smileyman455 I second that!

  • @smileyman455 nah

  • Dave the Lighting Guy says, "Geddy Lee, best bass player EVER, come on!"

  • @AgnosDios I say "read the discription"

    PS geddy is unreal :P

  • @toolrockhard I was making a small joke... it's a line from the movie Orgasmo.

  • @toolrockhard Unreal?

  • Good selection on bassists. I've seen a bunch of "best bassists" videos and they're all the same, this one had a more creative selection. Nicely done.

BTW, what's the second song justin chancellor is playing?

  • @KEPALO1 hey, thanks for the comment, the second song played by justin is disposition, is from the album lateralus

  • @KEPALO1 its disposition

  • Uhera Futoshi...Great Bassist.Look it up

  • @MaximumOfaHero hes not too bad, very like flea but maybe not as talented, love that bass tone tho modulus are unreal

  • i think timmy c is awsome

  • tim commeford...? are you joking he sucks

  • @dukeblue1110 i respectfully disagree and ask that you write an album more influencial than anything he has written

  • @dukeblue1110 wow really ? btw playing bass is about playing what needs to be played not playing some overly crazy shit that dosent fit , there is a time and a place for it and hes very taseful with his arrangements. all of these guys are infact great bassists.

  • and jeff ament???????????????????//

  • and Doug Wimbish from living colour?

  • finally a video with Victor Wooten, Flea AND Jaco!!! (Justin and Les rock too) some geddy lee would be good, but AWESOME mix!!

  • Justin looks like he has 2 ft long legs lol

  • haha i learned every RATM song from their first album with my FIRST bass when i was 15... after about a week of playing, first song i learned was killing in the name... i wouldn't call im amazing.... Myung and Chancellor yes for sure.. and Cliff defiantly should have been in there!

  • @DavidsJeffs i didnt say he was amazing, the video is called great bassists and it opinion man, also good on ya for learning them, but there is a huge difference between learning something and writing something, as i said to someone else saying he wasnt great, if you can write one song as influential as anything he has written then you have a valid argument

  • @toolrockhard haha yeah i just like stirring shit!

  • Victor's picture with 8 hands... So true!

  • Bootsie must be one of them. Good job and Flea at slap bass? Awesome. Myung? Isn't he from Dream Theater or is he from Rod stewart's band? I don't like Clay lespool. I mean he's talented, but I don't like his style in bassing. Is Tim from R.A.T.M.? Justin Chancellor is KING, but all others deserve a good spot there too. I don't like that you left out Geddy Lee. :-| Shame on you. He's a bad ass BASS player too.

  • U forgot about Ryan Martinie (Maudvayne) and Geddy Lee (Rush), the greatest ones along with Chancellor and Claypool...

  • sure all these guys are all badasses or they woudlent be where there are... but in my opinion justin chancellor has what none of these other guys has...the tone...the crazy ass rhythm, the darkness, the amazing creativity...his number one, is he easily (like the other memebers of tool) has the power to "move you" sure the others do to...but tool is on a level of their own, and will never be touched.

  • @ExplosiveNutSack u are totally right man

  • the bassist from Fall Out Boy is insane too.

  • @danspare i dont think simple bass riffs could be considered "insane"

  • @VladFerdinand1 maybe not insane, maybe intense.

  • Justin Chancellor !!! Master !

  • @schalke091 I agree. Justin is the best bass player I've ever seen live. Also at the top of my list, I got to see Jaco the first time he played live w/Joni Mitchell. I couldn't take my eyes off of him, he was so beautiful, only 23, just a baby.

  • Justin Chancellor is a very creative. I really don't know by what merits, these bassists have been compiled, but he truly doesn't stand up to some of the other bassists in this video. Like Victor Wooten for example, he could play circles around Justin Chancellor (and the guy from Rage Against the Machine, forgot his name).

I would say Justin Chancellor is one of the best Rock/Alternative Metal bassists, but not one of the greatest bassists ever.

  • @Basssurge You cant say that an artist could "play circles" around another artist, everyone has their own way of doing "stuff". Therefore there is no greatest bassist ever. But there are great bassists.

  • @Deflection46n2

right, but seeing as the maker of this video is obviously a pretty die hard Tool fan then that would definitely influence the choice of bassists for this. Justin is a creative bassist, but he's not a master, at least not yet. And go skim through some Tool music videos and the comments, the fans do have a tendency to exaggerate their skills (Yes, yes Maynard is a good singer, but claiming he is the god of music is very far fetched).

  • @Basssurge I am convinced that he mastered his instrument. He is the only bassist that "moved" me in a way, with some riffs that he thought of. But that's just me. And about people that idolize people, I think that they have some soul searching to do. Its not just tool fans that do that, but I wouldn't dare to start that topic.

  • @Deflection46n2

yeah for the sake of preventing flaming it's probably best to stop this argument now

  • marcus miller?

  • Irokutara!!! Your grandmother sucks! She'a great without her teeth! You fucking douche!

  • Pretty random but I think John Deacon should be in here he is horribly underrated listen to the bassline in The Millionaire Waltz its pure poetry

  • All of them are uber.

But you could stand to lose Flea, who in all reality sucks, and replace him with Michael LePond.

  • i agree 200%

Michael LePond is an underrated bass player in an underrated band ;)

  • You did put a great collection of fantastic bassplayers here. Ofcourse it is your compilation and I cannot say anything about it, only I do miss Phil Lynott, but hey, as you said before, there are lots of more great bassplayers ofcourse...

  • I think you should put in the Myung riffs the solo in TDOE(the dance of eternity if u dunno)

  • i know the solo, just dont have that song :(

  • the tool bassist is insane too

  • too??

    hes in there, "justin chancellor"

  • yeah man I know I was answering to hellojacobhitchwhateversaysafter

  • ah ok cool, soz :)

  • The only one that impresses me is Chancellor.

  • im not sure how that matters, its a comilation of some of my fav bassists

  • nice

  • Most of them are modernists.

  • Nice list perfect

  • Claypool is god

  • No Cliff Burton?

  • Exactly what i was thinking.

I was like "what the fuck?".

  • I know, man! Clif deserves to be in this. The best bassists ever, to me, are Cliff Burton, Billy Sheehan, and Alex Webster.

  • yeah. i was kinda dissapointed too. cliff should be there.

  • The description does say

"this is a video containing some amazing bassists, there are loads more but these are justa few "

Plus its my compilation so im prob gonna put in ppl i like, burton yes but not sheehan, hes a mess, scalping frets is cheating, learn to tap properly ffs or dont do it

  • aww man no marcus miller? aw well great vid anyway

  • yeah! i like your list...good bassists...:D

  • Kid, you are missing James Jamerson and Paul McCartney from your list. And if Bootsy is in, then Larry Graham should be too.

  • None of the top 10 !

Geedy lee,Chis squires, John Paul Jones,Gary Strater, Tal Wakinfield ...

  • Wah, no Geddy Lee. You did get Justin in there, so I guess that makes up for it.

  • i thought flea was the guitarist. shows you how much i know bout rhcp.

  • Comment removed

  • i duno who the first guy is but from the sample you picked he doesent even deserve to be in the same room as some of the other guys on here. and where are marcus miller and stanley clarke

  • you dont know bootsy collins???

what the hell, you know marcus miller and stanley clarke but not bootsy??

    shame shame!

  • BOOTSY IS GOD!!!!!!SHAME SHAME!!!

  • where's Jhon Deacon from Queen??

  • john deacon did his job as a bassist but he isnt that good.

  • That picture of Victor Wooten is cool but kind of creepy.

  • nice to see Timmy c getting some recognition. for me mr claypool is the man.

  • matt freeman should be on that list. by far one of the best punk bassists ever!

  • whats the tool song?

  • Theres two diff tool songs, first part is the intro from schism and the second part is from disposition, both songs are on the album lateralus

  • geddy lee? victor wooten??

  • You better check out Avishai Cohen and Percy Jones if you like jazz

  • niiiice but where is bryan beller??????

  • Nice list but where are Geddy Lee and Chris Squire?

  • Geddy's a great bass player but i don't think he'd fit wiht all the other players in this list but hes a great bass player non the less.

  • Well I thought this list was about great bassists and not looks!

  • ...and what i said had nothing to do with looks it was about style and songs.

  • geddy lee and chris squire arent in it cos i just got lazy and left em out, theyre both class but theres shit loads of amazing bassists tbh, cant please everyone like plus if i added every bassist that was uber into one vidoe it would be about six weeks long yknow??

ill make a series of videos with great bassists :)

  • nice!
