Shavo Odadjian. He should be in there. Shavo makes some pretty good stuff, like the bass line for BYOB is almost identical to the guitar part. Shavo Odadjian and Justin Chancellor are the best in my opinion, at least when it comes to creativity.
Steve DiGiorgio needs to be included in the next list, along with Geddy Lee. But, you have Flea, Les Claypool, Justin Chancellor and Victor Wooten so it's all good.
@British0Pixie as the info states, the video contains "some" amazing bassists, sadly cant please everyone, chancellor is my personal fav, amazing creativity
@296jacqi Thanks love. The Bass is an underrated instrument and I for one enjoy it's complexities as well as it's power to totally add major thump to any song but at the same time be very fluid and melodic as in the example shown by Victor Wooten at the end of this clip. The chap is a genius. Keep rockin'. = ]
@toolrockhard I like Fieldy, but I dont think he should be in a "Great bassists from all genres." kind of list, like this is. I feel like he should probably be included in a kind of "great bassists from strictly Hard rock/Nu Metal/Metal kind of list. JUSTIN CHANCELLOR FOR EVER.
you have Les Claypool, Justin Chancellor, and Flea in here, so my long search for a legit bass masters vid has come to an end, thanks to you my friend. :D
Good selection on bassists. I've seen a bunch of "best bassists" videos and they're all the same, this one had a more creative selection. Nicely done.
BTW, what's the second song justin chancellor is playing?
@dukeblue1110 wow really ? btw playing bass is about playing what needs to be played not playing some overly crazy shit that dosent fit , there is a time and a place for it and hes very taseful with his arrangements. all of these guys are infact great bassists.
haha i learned every RATM song from their first album with my FIRST bass when i was 15... after about a week of playing, first song i learned was killing in the name... i wouldn't call im amazing.... Myung and Chancellor yes for sure.. and Cliff defiantly should have been in there!
@DavidsJeffs i didnt say he was amazing, the video is called great bassists and it opinion man, also good on ya for learning them, but there is a huge difference between learning something and writing something, as i said to someone else saying he wasnt great, if you can write one song as influential as anything he has written then you have a valid argument
Bootsie must be one of them. Good job and Flea at slap bass? Awesome. Myung? Isn't he from Dream Theater or is he from Rod stewart's band? I don't like Clay lespool. I mean he's talented, but I don't like his style in bassing. Is Tim from R.A.T.M.? Justin Chancellor is KING, but all others deserve a good spot there too. I don't like that you left out Geddy Lee. :-| Shame on you. He's a bad ass BASS player too.
sure all these guys are all badasses or they woudlent be where there are... but in my opinion justin chancellor has what none of these other guys has...the tone...the crazy ass rhythm, the darkness, the amazing creativity...his number one, is he easily (like the other memebers of tool) has the power to "move you" sure the others do to...but tool is on a level of their own, and will never be touched.
@schalke091 I agree. Justin is the best bass player I've ever seen live. Also at the top of my list, I got to see Jaco the first time he played live w/Joni Mitchell. I couldn't take my eyes off of him, he was so beautiful, only 23, just a baby.
Justin Chancellor is a very creative. I really don't know by what merits, these bassists have been compiled, but he truly doesn't stand up to some of the other bassists in this video. Like Victor Wooten for example, he could play circles around Justin Chancellor (and the guy from Rage Against the Machine, forgot his name).
I would say Justin Chancellor is one of the best Rock/Alternative Metal bassists, but not one of the greatest bassists ever.
@Basssurge You cant say that an artist could "play circles" around another artist, everyone has their own way of doing "stuff". Therefore there is no greatest bassist ever. But there are great bassists.
right, but seeing as the maker of this video is obviously a pretty die hard Tool fan then that would definitely influence the choice of bassists for this. Justin is a creative bassist, but he's not a master, at least not yet. And go skim through some Tool music videos and the comments, the fans do have a tendency to exaggerate their skills (Yes, yes Maynard is a good singer, but claiming he is the god of music is very far fetched).
@Basssurge I am convinced that he mastered his instrument. He is the only bassist that "moved" me in a way, with some riffs that he thought of. But that's just me. And about people that idolize people, I think that they have some soul searching to do. Its not just tool fans that do that, but I wouldn't dare to start that topic.
You did put a great collection of fantastic bassplayers here. Ofcourse it is your compilation and I cannot say anything about it, only I do miss Phil Lynott, but hey, as you said before, there are lots of more great bassplayers ofcourse...
"this is a video containing some amazing bassists, there are loads more but these are justa few "
Plus its my compilation so im prob gonna put in ppl i like, burton yes but not sheehan, hes a mess, scalping frets is cheating, learn to tap properly ffs or dont do it
i duno who the first guy is but from the sample you picked he doesent even deserve to be in the same room as some of the other guys on here. and where are marcus miller and stanley clarke
geddy lee and chris squire arent in it cos i just got lazy and left em out, theyre both class but theres shit loads of amazing bassists tbh, cant please everyone like plus if i added every bassist that was uber into one vidoe it would be about six weeks long yknow??

I agree with AgnosDios about Geddy Lee. He should be there.
But so should Muzz Skillings (who is an incredible thumper -Living Colour)
and Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. Good choices though.
Personally, I think Les Claypool is the best of the lot and Justin Chancellor
is the most innovative/ creative. Just my opinion. Cheers! = ]
