  • Guys better than me..

  • I witnessed an 83 year old vault it was pretty amazing that he was vaulting higher than me at the time

  • WOW. thats just amazing.

  • haha..... i just started, and i can only get 9.... now i feel stupid

  • this guy just qualified for Vermont boys high school states!!!

  • @grasso1157 NY State qualifying height is 13' something! what the hell!?

  • @Pappyboa14 haha wow, last year states was won at 12'6. it'l be better this year though haha

  • my coach needs to stop being lazy and teach me to bend i can already get 10ft without it

  • @alpha123213 your coach doesn't teach you to bend the pole, the pole bends when you get your form right. If you do what you're supposed to do during your run and plant then your pole should bend just because you're transfering enough energy into it. Bending the pole isn't something like the plant that your coach "eaches you, it just happens when you do stuff right.

  • @alpha123213 Best advice for bending it, keep both your arms completely straight and swing your legs. If you just jump up and bend your arms, you'll never get any higher than 7 or maybe 8. For real, fully extend your arms bro and it will come

  • He was also a stunt double for Arnold Schwarz once! Go Mr. Counihan!

  • Fuck liking this video, I love it. Truely inspires me.

  • lol i witnessed the 80-85M world record broken at 9'1", it was amazing

  • simple amazing

  • one word: DAMN

  • I just love how my friend barely pole vaults that height.

I'm not a pole vaulter, I don't have the strength for that stuff but still... wow.

Of all the track events, pole vault amazes me the most.

  • The vaulter is Gerald Counihan, one of the top Masters Pole Vaulters in his age group in the world. He is 71. Always a Gold Medal winner in National Masters Track and Field Championships.

  • Dude the world record in 1964 was way higher than 11'6... It was 5.28 by the end of 1964 (so something like 17'2). Guys were jumping over 15'6 with bamboo and steel poles! And the first recorded record I can find is 4.02 (13'2ish) in 1912!

  • ya i know. its not worth changing. i realized that after i posted it. I was told that but upon more research i found it was wrong but he holds the current masters record at 11'6".

  • the reord was 11.6 one time? wow i wish i lived at the time i would have beet that by 2 feet =]

  • and bubka wouldve beaten it by about 9. lol

  • Well bro you gotta think about it, how different the poles were back then compared to now. So much comes into factor.

  • o crap I just realised by the way he runs ,that this guy came to my school fer a few weeks to practice with us wow!!

  • dam!

    hes better than me atm

  • this is a great vid seeing this inspired me.
