i always wonder why people go out to kill a fish when they don't look as if they are starving or need to be chasing some poor marlin down while it fights for its life. It might be fun for you, but it certainly shows how cruel some people can be when they do this kind of fishing for sport. The marlin probably knew it was going to get eaten by the Great White.

I think the most disgusting thing I have seen on TV is this guy jumping from a helicopter onto a Marlin in the ocean and riding it for a few seconds. It was part of a promo for a fishing show in NZ. jimmy, they tag the fish and release it so that other sportsmen can catch the fish and it can reproduce. Marlin are generally caught as a sport fish and in many cases taken home to stuff as a trophy fish. However, they are slow breeding and with the amount of people that fish Marlin, the species would be extinct if they were not tagged and released by anglers who fish for that species specifically.

i would agree with the chair comment, i dont think he really knows how to use the chair either, first off, a good chair has to have beer holders on the sides, and you have to slouch more so you can really relax, my favourite chair allows me to recline and thats when i let the fish do all the work, sometimes if the fish try to swim by the back of the boat i get the captain to run the properller over his back. that takes the wind out of them

Tag and release is great to see, theres just one problem with it, if the fight goes for more than 45 min or so the fish will die of exaustion, and if its a gut hook the fish is dead aswell.....

Marlins can exhaust themselves, but it is no real pattern to how long a fish can go for. In tournaments you want to get it to the boat fast and tag/release it so you can start trolling for a new one. There are many marlin fights that have gone beyond 4 hours and it has had no effect on the 'spirit' of the marlin. On the other hand, there are also many stories of fish dying after 20 minutes of extreme exertion. These days most crews will try and revive the fish if it 'passes out'

Yeah, the statement above is true if you just happened to have a way of pulling 500+ pound fish straight out of the water. Otherwise, these fish are near shock from the fight alone, so catch and release is the way to go. Great fish!!!
