He killed himself because he was terminally ill and also had onset dementia. He was 75 and sick. This is why there needs to be assisted suicide. This is not because he was sad about a girl. The authors of these articles each SPECULATED about why he would commit suicide and his bad relationship and failed marriage was a theory. Several days later, new articles come out about the dementia, etc. and now people are going with that theory.

Cornelius may not have killed himself due to a bad breakup, however there are people who DO take their lives for that reason. It's stupid but it does happen.
