I think it's crazy how the Police know how the chain of command in the Criminal Underworld works, they know who is importing/producing drugs in this country, they know the pyramid of dealers & suppliers,they know Gangs & gang members, they know who is doing what - and yet they seem powerless to do anything because of 2 reasons, A) Not enough Organized Crime Legislations -AND- (B) Lawyers just keep letting them go so they can regroup again.

@amberpoovey True but there will always be Organized Crime because the Drug Trade is just one part of a mass Criminal Enterprise. They can still Profit from other crimes that would be crazy to "legalize". They still profit from Extortion, rackateering, prostitution, Human slave trade (not including the sex trade), Contract Killing or Intimidation, selling stolen goods, and all sorts of different types of Fraud. So dismantling Organized crime is impossible.

@amberpoovey .....P.S. there are those who also say that Organized criminals use Drug Money to finance other crimes and altough that is true, Im sure by now they've made enough money that if Drugs were Legalized tommorow, they would still have cash in hand. Plus, you there are plenty of more ways to finance a crime, 2 Big ones are Home-Invasions (which is done by all different levels of criminals) and High-jacking trucks of goods &selling the stolen goods. Just something to consider.

We need better Organized Crime/ Gang Legislation. Also, we need tougher sentences for the higher end criminals or gangsters. But Judges would never do it, they just don't seem to get it. Also, there is a lot of talk about how there is not enough room in prisons to hand out long jail sentences, but that because Canada doesn't have that many prisons to begin with, I thought the Punishment is suppose to fit the Crime, not hand out light jail sentences to prevent over crowding jails.

Also rehab has to be available and long term. Why are people so afraid of legalization? Legalization takes the profit out of it so the gangs will not thrive. Also legalization means that drugs can be government controlled. Also the government can make tax dollars on marijuana. Just like I smoke tobacco despite the health warning people are going to smoke marijuana anyway.

Legalize and control marijuana like tobacco. The hard drugs could be made legal and controlled by pharmaceutical companies. Those addicted to cocaine, heroin etc has to see their doctor to get a prescription.
