I made a practice dart so i could learn cuz when you first start all you basicaily need is a weight on a rope right well i tied a pad lock to a rope went out and practiced and it seems to work pretty well i got some simple wraps down and can do a basic bird kick with it
i dont know if this has been said before, but the the rope swinging out of the right hand should be on the other side. I.e coming out of the right hand on the little finger side. not the thumb side
@Trailerparkstoner i realise yur comments over a year old but the rope an chain weapons were never a "primary" weapon tho, they were carried as backups to the more mainstream wpns like the broadsword and would be thrown to entangle or used if lacking range against their weapon, so you wouldnt see it used too much or used correctly especially on here, its been adopted by the wushu community as well, they do more aerial kungfu thats for movies and theater, not real fighting sets
You are awesome! I always had difficulties to see how it works, but now I understand (atleast a bit of it) how it works, and how they make them so fast! Physics, yay :D
Thank you very much for the step by step approach. I McGuyver'd my boxing wraps and a keychain and managed to work on it. A few bumps on the head later and I can totally swing both sides/ways!
hello, I have created a variation of the meteor hammer (as your classification states, a piece of rope with 2 ends). I call it a rope shuriken. It is a long piece of rope or any other similar material, with a 4 sided star on one end and a throwing needle at the other (right now I just a prototype out of cheap rope, nails, a screwdriver, and a lot of tape lol). The shuriken types can vary. What do you think?
I wanted to take up the rope dart but for a long time now but ive just been focusing on the ability to pierce with it ( not even the purpose) but I think it's getting pretty deadly. I have a kunai tied to the end of a rope. wouldnt dare do stuff like this with that on
For entertainment mostly, device is set on fire. For the wrap around using the neck, he lets it go two revolutions before unwinding. He says it 'looks better' that way. If it's on fire, that comes awful close to your face.
basically, a double wrap may not be too wise if you're using a fire rope dart.
are there any videos of rope darts being thrown into a target? I'm curious to see how they are used as puncturing weapons. I've been studying Suriken-do for a while now and started looking into the Japanese version of a rope dart but I've never seen anyone demonstrate how they would be used in battle. all the videos are basically choreography and tricks.
nice vid i am trying to learn it all by myself but now i feel dat frm u i wud get a lot help to proceed in right direction . thnx again. and whats the song behind nice music luved it.
Clarification that I've posted a whole bunch around. Yes, according to traditional Chinese martial arts, that is both a meteor and a (dull) rope dart. There's also the double-ended thing that's also called a meteor. In the California/Bay Area spinning community, we call any one long thing on a rope a "Rope Dart", and anything with two weighted ends a "Meteor". Is it wrong? not really. Does it make communication way eaiser? Yes. Are martial artists occasionally pedantic about naming? Oh god.
Nice and simple, very good vid. What you fail to mention is what happens if you use a rope that can stretch under tension. Here's a hint: don't use a stretch rope.
I had a nice bruise that went down to the bone the size of a coffee saucer when I used a nylon rope with a tennis ball attached. After you fling the ball towards a target the bloody thing will slingshot right back at you.
Important saftey tip: say NO to STRETCHY rope darts/meteor hammers.
hey god man please put some more up im the only girl in a fire troop and for the passed year got stuck wit hula hoop and poi wanted to learn something new and kinda manly and im picking it up cause of ur vids cheers man

talks about rope dart and meteor hammer, with the meteor hammer being used (as a projectile) to smash clay pots.
Brilliant accuracy from the performer

also /watch?v=L4Ym9WNn2K0&NR=1
near the end they are sending a rope 'dart' (more like a rope bowie knife) into a dummy
(both these are in response to hathegkla's question)

yeohjeoh 3 years ago 3
it's actually the same, but the rope dart has a metal spike instead of a heavy weight

I've practiced these things recently on a real rope dart. Don't even ask what happened, not pretty.
What did you make your rope dart out of? Maybe I can make something like that and make pratice a whole lot less painful.

i use a nylon rope... except I´ve knotted the end of it.
It is a series of knots, so as to not make a ball but a ´´rod´´ of knots...
Even tho it stretches... it still works... it will just require more technique.
Anyway, with a stretchy rope you can perform strikes that a regular rope cant... like launching directly out of the spin.
