by we will have wasted our readily available natural gas reserves far quicker with all the gas it takes to make ethanol and ethanol plants than if we just kept going without it and moderate gasoline. you damn hippies that think this will work are destroying this country by smearing your propaganda all over the walls. stop that environmental and eco friendly bullshit also your peta terrorism and finish up the bigger problems
Commodity price of corn (10Jul2011) is about $6.37/bushel. Yikes!! If one bushel yields 2.8 gallons ethanol it costs $6.37/2.8 = $2.28 per gallon for the corn alone. I support ethanol but the fact is corn prices are way high.
People all over the world, are starving. These clowns would serve humanity better, helping produce more & better grain for the starving people in the world.
Corn is for tacos, burritos, animal feed, and soda. Using corn as fuel will drive corn prices up higher starving poor people throughout the world. This video didn't mention that for good reason. This is propaganda and I don't want any.
Ethanol bad. Here is short version. To make Ethanol is costly, it will increase food price dramatically, and it's a high end alcohol how long will the metal in the engine last. Oh yeah it still produce pollution. 2010 Saab has proven that gasoline get 3 mpg better than ethanol. The government will proven result and hype from those brain dead media to feed nonsense to naive citizen who believe anything. Research people. Do it , wikipedia does not count. Got to science journal database, go to the
My opinion about this is (1) this would be great if it would be profitable for the farmers that have their land in land banks, (2) it would represent a discount to the consumer, (3) it would NOT affect the food supply, (4) would make good use of GMO grains and keep them out of our food chain, (5) we need to have some sort of government regulation on the cost of fuels, and not allow the oil barrons to use this as another method to rape the American people again.
she is also wrong about the cost of ethanol production. a dollar a gallon? that does not mesh with reality. if it where that cheap, the government would not need to subsidize its production to make it profitiable. also, she forgets the cost to the government of corn production (more subsidies).
they keep saying that it won't impact food prices. first class bullshit. The only way that could be true is if all corn used for ethanol was produced in addition to current production. even if that did happen, it of course would have environmental consequences.
She is talking about their plant only. It's a research center, not a production facility. They are trying to figure out the best ways to process the fuel. Their plant in particular only uses animal stock and feed. This video is also a bit older (like a few years old) when ethanol did only use to cost a dollar a gallon to produce. Mainly because it doesn't need as much refinement or electricity to produce it.
If we date the video based on the price she gives for ethanol (2.5/gal) then this can be no earlier than 2006. Corn Prices in 06 hovered just over 2 and shot up from there. That means that means it would cost no less that 75 cents a gallon for corn alone. This does not include overhead, transportation, labor, other materials, utilities, and of course a profit margin. If she is getting government subsidies for research and including that in her calculations, that's deceptive and misleading.
as the lady in the video alluded to, corn ethanol subsidies totaled $7.0 billion in 2006 for 4.9 billion gallons of ethanol. That's $1.45 per gallon of ethanol (and $2.21 per gal of gas replaced).
the end result is that this video portrays two ideas that are simply not true, even at the time it was made.
I know as a fact that you can make tacos tortillas with corn ...........or you drive you car or you eat tacos......there got to be a different grain to use for this matter ......I don't want to run out of tacos .... I ratther walk..........hahahhahha
With pure EVs coming, and a soon to be released range extended electric vehicle (the Volt) the trend will be toward more electric and less liquid fuel. Ethanol will be that liquid fuel.
ethanol would be great if the process didn't cause more carbon emissions than our current oil-based system or didn't take corn away from the world food market or drive up food prices!
I found a great book that is a must read. "Alcohol can be a gas!" By david blume. BTW, we could grow cat-tails in our poop and produce enough fuel for our country using no food or corn!
everyone needs to watch this. where can i find similar videos for hydrogen, solar, geothermal etc.? I want to put it all together, because there is so much misinformation out there.
This is absolutley the best DOG GONE video I have seen in a very long time.........Dan Lorenzo it will be link to my eco flex conversion kit site. Thank you so much for educating the public with this video.
That's one hell of a moonshine still! :) Popcorn Sutton would be proud. :D

Terrible narrator. He sounds kind of dead, and it's kind of tiring listening to him.
But thanks for the plant tour.
