Commodity price of corn (10Jul2011) is about $6.37/bushel. Yikes!! If one bushel yields 2.8 gallons ethanol it costs $6.37/2.8 = $2.28 per gallon for the corn alone. I support ethanol but the fact is corn prices are way high.

My opinion about this is (1) this would be great if it would be profitable for the farmers that have their land in land banks, (2) it would represent a discount to the consumer, (3) it would NOT affect the food supply, (4) would make good use of GMO grains and keep them out of our food chain, (5) we need to have some sort of government regulation on the cost of fuels, and not allow the oil barrons to use this as another method to rape the American people again.

She is talking about their plant only. It's a research center, not a production facility. They are trying to figure out the best ways to process the fuel. Their plant in particular only uses animal stock and feed. This video is also a bit older (like a few years old) when ethanol did only use to cost a dollar a gallon to produce. Mainly because it doesn't need as much refinement or electricity to produce it.

If we date the video based on the price she gives for ethanol (2.5/gal) then this can be no earlier than 2006. Corn Prices in 06 hovered just over 2 and shot up from there. That means that means it would cost no less that 75 cents a gallon for corn alone. This does not include overhead, transportation, labor, other materials, utilities, and of course a profit margin. If she is getting government subsidies for research and including that in her calculations, that's deceptive and misleading.
