Why do you have so much faith in the Mayan calender? Their calender system is complex and guided by eclipses and other lunar events, but it ended in 2012 because they were killed off by the Spanish. Your assuming you'll be nice and comfy in your own home. Depending on where you live, you might have to evacuate your home and be on the road. Earthquakes and floods move you. There should be a backpack and carry bag for each person filled with bare necessities for life. So forget the generator and kitchen sink- think camping and trapping/hunting. Be able to go stealth and be quiet- no rattling pans. Fires at night will give your position away- make smokeless fire. Gangs will want to see you.

@js1112111 I agree. I think the most important thing is to ensure you have clean water to drink and feed plants. Salt is HUGELY important. It will help you preserve things as well as nutrition. Hunting supplies. Bow and arrow, Bowie knife. Ninja skills.LOLSeriously, though, knowledge is key. Horticulture would be a priority and so would meat preservation and processing.Efficiency is crucial. Going to have to learn much of this on the fly, myself. But, I've always been a quickstudy.

I am a survivalist, and there will be some major solar flares in 2012, and if they are as strong as the ones we recieved in the late 1800s, our power grid may shut down. Why do you have so much faith in the Mayan calender? Their calender system is complex and guided by eclipses and other lunar events, but it ended in 2012 because they were killed off by the Spanish. @ussdefiant27 You don't need a stockpile...just more than a .22 cal pistol...because its really hard to stop someone or even dangrous animals with a small caliber. There are very few weapons that are actually illegal in the US. Buying them illegally is a different story. I have the weapons anyway - so my biggest choice will be which ones to bring. I am personally going to take a 308 hunting rifle and a 357 snub-nosed revolver (its very small but packs a huge punch)

Remember no refrigeration you need to salt cure meat :BOOKS :local flaura, ie edible healing plants:on how to use healing plants. Candles, string rope. A beehive or two would be very helpful. A condom is an important part of any survival kit because it can be used to carry and store water. Water purification tablets incase need to drink from still water sources. Salt tablets (prevents cramping). Space blanket to keep warm. Fish hooks and line. Plastic poncho which keeps u dry and can be used to make a temorary lean-to. Beta stone for light. Chord used for snares or to turn knife into spear.

Your assuming you'll be nice and comfy in your own home. Depending on where you live, you might have to evacuate your home and be on the road. Earthquakes and floods move you. There should be a backpack and carry bag for each person filled with bare necessities for life. So forget the generator and kitchen sink- think camping and trapping/hunting. Be able to go stealth and be quiet- no rattling pans. Fires at night will give your position away- make smokeless fire. Gangs will want to see you.

NB - Take Spices, coffee, salts, these things will have a very good secondry function for trade. But I would venture this man sounds like he will be static and taking care of more than just himself.
