I love to hear this song sung this way. I have an old record with a white (!!!) singer named John Gary singing it in a similar soulful style. He sings it in "slave speak" with "we didn' know who you was" and "that's how things is" but I have always assumed that was the original negro spiritual lyrics. I've always wanted to sing it but felt bad singing it with those wordings. Ms. Jackson's version gives me new inspiration. Praise Jesus!!!
