"The world treats you mean Lord

    Treats me mean too"

  • but we didn't know who you were...........

  • I love to hear this song sung this way. I have an old record with a white (!!!) singer named John Gary singing it in a similar soulful style. He sings it in "slave speak" with "we didn' know who you was" and "that's how things is" but I have always assumed that was the original negro spiritual lyrics. I've always wanted to sing it but felt bad singing it with those wordings. Ms. Jackson's version gives me new inspiration. Praise Jesus!!!

  • One of the most beautiful songs dedicated to the Christ Child...............and Mahalia sings it with such tenderness

    PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (Dec. 13), I played Come, Jesus, Holy Child, to Me for Sunday School assembly. It was written as Hofgesangbuch, Leipzig, 1672 and translated by Paul Z. Strodach. The tune is PUER NOBIS NASCITUR, composed by Michael Praetorius and adapted by Martin Shaw.
