By the way, I need your help with something. I have this huge pile of scrap wood from a reno I just finished and I need someone to help me tend a bonfire and talk about birth, death and dames. And we don't smoke cigarettes here. Whaddya say?
There's a lot of hype about how hard it is to quit smoking. It's ALL a load of crap created by the folks who don't want you to quit smoking and the other folks who will profit from "helping" you quit this "powerful addiction". It's very simple Errl: if that's what you want, flick a switch, and PRESTO you are no longer a smoker. And you might be grumpy for a while but just tell people why and ask their patience..
I'm glad you're keeping busy Earl, I don't suppose boredom is good when you're trying to avoid temptation. From what I understand the physical addiction doesn't last long (I vaguely remember 2-3 weeks) but the real challenge is the psychological dependency, like learning how to not organize your breaks and down-time around cig-breaks. But I've never met an ex-smoker who regretted kicking the habit. Good luck!
I quit only once, and at the time I INTENDED that it would be temporary, for exactly one week.
Day four was the toughest and day 5 was far easier.
The next time I quit it will be permanent. I know this because I believe it's a matter of decision... That is, a decision to suffer temporarily for my own good.
When i was a boy we lived in the coastal town of pt Macdonell. The main industry there was shark and crayfish fishing. One morning i looked out to sea to find a white cloud
rolling in from the open ocean. After about 30 minutes the cloud hit the beach and rolled over the town.It was not a cloud but millions and millions of white butterflys.
Go down to the store and buy some 'No Smoking' signs and hang them around the house. Might help. Don't forget the car too. I bet the car is a hard place to not smoke. Good luck and enjoy the hike. Go down to Niagara and pick up some grapes or some local wine.
A hike is a great way to get away from it all and forget about smoking... Use the rubber band Earl, use the rubber band...

Go Harry go, you can quit that nasty smoking habit. Leafs suck, we're going to have another riot in Vancouver this playoff season. :-)

It will get easier, many consider the first three days to be the hardest.

Harry.... if your friends are smokers..maybe you should go on that hike by yourself...or with only non-smokers.

Seems you've used quitting as a catalyst for doing some major and minor other cool stuff, so you're off to a flying start! :)

Hang in there Hairy, it does get easier. In time the urge disappers.

Migrating birds are amazing, but migrating insects blow my mind. What an incredible aspect of Nature.
