Apparently I'm a couple years late on this. I was the girl (CH) that packmaneats wrote about. And, for the record, he was the best 1st boyfriend a girl could hope for. Those days were great memories for me, as well. Later in life, became acquainted with Terry Rae for a brief time, but have lost touch over the years. In case pacmaneats sees this: thank you for remembering me and conveying such sweet thoughts. I hope your life has been happy and rich in love and kindness.
Dude I new Kenny very well, may he rest in pease. You never noticed the guys in the solid red british uniforms that opened for just about every major group that played the Hullabaloo?
I remember Burnside. One of the guitar players was named Kenny Roland. I was a strip rat, but I knew him from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. We used to hang out at the hamburger place across from Gazzaries when they played there. I think he was in the same class as Mike Purpose and Drew Harrison, 2 legendary surfers from South Bay. I was a couple years back. Sorry PG fans, but The Enemys ruled the strip. The only house band I remember from the Hullabaloo was The Seeds.

It was big in Southern California but it wouldn't have probably in San Francisco. San Francisco's self indulgent and elitist attitude is probably what knocked out Beau Brummels. They were a San Franciscan band.
@mcclungsr ----I have the video of them playing on "Where The Action Is". Someone posted it on You Tube in 2008. They lip sync'd but who cares. Great song!
I talked to someone in the group a while ago and sent it to him but I think he had trouble opening it. I forgot who it was that I talked to.
Hey - if anyone wants to communicate with Rick Moser use email: ram434@aol.com. We can then get in touch by phone. gaarageband66, I still need a copy of "Where the Action is". teewhy1977- I have many photos. Anyone else that wants to talk about the "best days of rock'n roll" email me. Rick (still playing bass!-check out "the Justice Band Orange County" on youtube. That's me with the same color Fender bass). Bye.

David Beaudoin was my father. Don and John are my uncles. John has passed away but don is still alive and well. My father david passed away quiet some time ago. His wife judi my brother jeff and i are doing well
This is amazing. I went top school at West Torrance high. I can't count the number of times I saw the Guard perform at the Hullabaloo club. THose are some of the sweetest days of my life. The girl I was dating at the time (CH) was one of the most wonderful people I ever met. Lost contact with her in the '70s. Nice memory. Kudos to the poster. -GP
I went to School (Hawthorne High) with Don, John and David Beaiudoin, as well as Emitt, The Palace Guard was hot,, Those were marvelous daze. Sorry to hear that David has passed on, he brought the house down at the hullabaloo, when he sang "True Love Ways" , the Buddy Holly song.
Thanks so much for this...brings back all the memories at the Hullabaloo, The Guard, The Wild Ones and of course "THE" manager swivel hips Gary Bucasta...the line if you're still interested is "If you would come back and make my salty tears seem sweet" So really sorry to hear about David, my heartfelt sympathies
A couple of us from "Children of the Mushroom" were inspired by watching these guys perform live at the Hullabaloo Club at 6230 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California back in 1965 or 66. They came on via a rotating stage. Oh yea we had our girlfriends there as well... Regards - dennis
I remember fondly my girlfriends and I at Hullabaloo watching the Guard on week-ends. Nothing like Sunset Blvd when you were a teenager. They Guard always brought the house down when they sang this tune. They did "Hey Joe" as well. Thanks for this memory of my Hollywood long ago.
Every band had a version of "Hey Joe" back in the days. However the best rendition we saw at the hullabaloo of that song was by The Music Machine. Right after they did "Talk Talk"
The Palace Guard would have been one of the biggest bands ever, if not for a series of unfortunate events. I am the nephew of the Beaudoin brothers, but seriously they made some great music. I would love to hear some of it re-mastered.
It's often a real challenge to get the stuff remastered especially when the small labels many of those bands recorded for went belly up and sold masters to who knows where. The bands themselves often gave away their rights to their own music through shady dealings from record labels. If that's their ambition too, I wish them lots of luck and about 5 lawyers. At least one per band member; seriously.
i am the daughter of david beaiudoin. and the title of the book is a little bit of heaven.. a whole lot of hell. My father has since passed away. After the palace Guard he became very into christion music and was remarried and had my half sister.
The Beaudoin brothers-quite talented in their own right but almost forgotten today-were actually starting to have internal squabbles before Emitt ever left the band. This was one of the primary problems that ultimately broke up the band. I hesitate to give you the whole story HERE, but if you send me a private message I'll be happy to give you the whole sad story. I know Emitt very well and he told me ALL.
I was the drummer that Don & boys wanted to replace Emmit but Gary would have no part of it. I called Emitt a couple years ago but he sounded very messed up and bitter about the death of David. He started babling and I had to hang up on him sorry Emitt. Please let me know how to find the book w/o paying $300
They were the house band at The Hullaballo Club in Hollywood. In the first picture shown here(the cover of their "Best Of" LP)Emitt is the third from the right. Their first name was the EMERALS, which is often misspelled as The EMERALDS. I always like this great song!
Emmitt had too much talent and too big an ego in a group he had no control over. The band did just fine after Emmitts leaving and so do did Emmitt. He was better off and did much more for himself (sucess) than the Guard ever offered him. His talent has proven that and he never would have stayed with the Guard at any success. If you can find anyone from the Guard, beside myself, get the facts on Emmitt, the sucess of the guard and what caused the breakup. Where's Terry Rae?
I have always liked the song. The one thing I enjoy is when former members of bands chime in but I only passed on what information had been out there. I am sure like anything else there was more to it than Emmitt's site or possibly it was an interview I read about the internal squabbles.
Hi Rick, I grew up in Hawthorne and went to Hawthorne High. You used to date my girlfriend Cathy Simpkins. I went to the Hullabaloo every weekend with my friend Denise. We were fans of the Wild Ones and the East Side Kids too We were the 2 girls caught hiding under the ramp waiting for the after hours show. I have the book written by David Beaudoin The Hullabaloo. Very interesting....

Neil Olson from Jumbo. I'm still looking for David's book, but can't afford $300
We have our web site done if you want to check it out. jumbo70.com
I had a lot of good time with the Boys in late '65 at the Hawthorne house.
Loved their family and especially Mom Beaudouin's cooking. I wish I could share some stories when they were 'off stage' also. later Drumbo

On a WFMU interview with Emitt in feb 2010, he says he hates this track, and
calls it a "gay song" which Shelly (the host) says "a homo-sexual song?" yep!
Weird eh? I would never had guessed. I don't think it's his best, but it's better than alot of stuff from that year.
