They are NOT related to Jellyfish. They are more closely related to vertrebates. They tend to come up to the surface to feed on plankton when it blooms. It is NOT rare, there is extreme amounts of these in the southern deeps seas around Antartica, but as I said the basicly go where plankton is plenty.
