  • it's interesting that there are more lyrics to this hymn but every modern version seems to only perform the Idumea version.

here are all the lyrics that Charles Wesley wrote in the 18th century

  • Whew. Heavy stuff, and they do it justice. Thanks for sharing.

  • I particularly like the middle one.

  • To me it does violence to the intention of a capella four-part shape-note music to sing it in solo voice (unless it's necessary) or to put it into any instrumental form. As to the quality of the solos, I would say that they are all three just perfect for a folk-ballads collection, the like of which Francis Child or Cecil Sharp might have collected. But not for Sacred Harp.

  • @ClaireConrad i one thousand percent agree with you

  • All three beautiful versions of a lovely hymn. I would never have heard of this if not for the Kleptones :)

  • Beautiful version. Thanks.

  • I like the picture you chose for the song. "Behold all flesh is as the grass..."

  • thank you... it's a hill near home :)

  • Really liked this, great stuff.

  • patrick wolf's version is my favourite!

    this is it -->/watch?v=3lRE4U1cTvc

  • @saintmalo mine too! <3

  • the cold mountain version just sends chills down my spine.

  • I simply love Bonnie Prince Billies version. It warms my heart. I The ladies voice in the first one literally sends my cat into a panic; but then he chills out as soon as Billies comes on. XD

  • XD Cats are always right!

  • This song has some of the best lyrics ever written. I connect with them soooo much!

    Thanks for this, it's wonderful.

    <3 <3 <3

  • yeah - great song

  • I love this video. The 3rd one was different lyrics. I wish I could find them

  • You're rigth.. Shirley Collins readapted it using some different words

  • Clip: Brilliant.

  • i like the first the best

  • A small a capella group called The Watersons also recorded this song.

  • BPB's is my favourite

  • yes there is...But (unfortunately with caveat) the video is a 40 second live excerpt...I wish YT management would start to consider the more Artful Underground musics...Unfortunately it looks like pipe dream ;(...

  • I love all the interpretations on Black Ships Ate The Sky (though I'm still liking Pantaleimon version the best) does anyone know if there's Pantaleimon version on YouTube?

  • I agree... P.'s is also my favourite. Why not post one yourself? That would be nice. I love it.

  • This is incredibly beautiful... it resonates deep within. My skin is covered in goosebumps! All of these versions are amazing. Thankyou, my beautiful Sister, for sharing this with me. I love it.

  • I feel a deep connection with celtic music, but when this is idumea singing with celtic style it's very great

  • I'm pretty sure anyone with a soul feels it. It's a primal (sort of) music, and that is what's so intriguing about it. For me, at least ;)

  • nobody can rivalize with almond sure but celtic version is a pleasure for the ancester in my soul ^^

  • what?

  • Almond's version is still the best!

  • Magnifique image, magnifiques musiques, celtic idumea I love it !

  • fantastico! adoro questo album.

    grazie

  • Grandi current 93... ottimo video, l'atmosfera si sposa alla perfezione col pezzo...

  • Elisa...bel video...ma le riprese son le tue?
