  • Tim Tebow had a documentary all about him and his long sock was showing. Tim Tebow also hunts lions and is one brave hot man!!!!

  • i had one when i was a kid. i can say that is was definitely the best dog ive ever had. that dog was like my mom when i was little.. i would ride on her back like a horse and she would just walk around the house with me like it was nothing. she was my snuggle buddy, anywhere i was she would curl up against me and pass out. i had a seizure and she ran upstairs and got my mom, she saved my life. BEST dog you could ever have. extremely intelligent, and loyal. GET THIS DOG.

  • i have a rhodesian massiff holy 2 months ad he is soooo cute

  • i got one :) she´s three now :)

  • I want one so badly! Any recommendations where to search for one? Perhaps a rescue? Thanks!

  • @ausi4x4 I suggest the best place to go is the rrcus website, there you will find breeders and rescue in your area (if your in the states, although there are some contacts from other countries there to). good luck!

  • Thumbs up all those who have a ridgie and cannot imagine ever having a different breed!

  • Mr Ridgeback is my best friend, a true loyal dog and very very clever.

  • Vendo Rhodesian recien nacidos.. vean el link de abajo, Santiago de Chile

  • lascondes.olx.cl/item_page.php?Id=51505894&ts=1326047694

  • Love these dogs, just found out my sister has one. I'm going to have to get one of my own soon.

  • i have a ridgback and he has 1 eye i love him..

  • @puppie310 I want one, my uncle had one but he passed away with old age, and my staffy died young at the age of 4 because he had a brain tumour, but mother nature is harsh, but i'm looking for a new dog and ididn't know which breed i wanted untill now. i have a few questions to ask

How much do they cost on a average before i get ontop of myself, i'll wait till your reply before i ask anymore.

  • I love my ridgeback!

  • @MrDude9804 yes they are i have two and the are so lovable while also effective guard dogs

  • the guy in the green shirt kinda reminds me of TITO ORTIZ :D

  • i think he's exaggerating a bit with the 800lb lion, a 800lb lion is very very rare on the face of the earth.......and how often is the ridgeback gonna run into that??

  • @fhhs05 yea he's got no idea what he's talking about. a 400-450 lbs male lion is typical, about half of what he stated.

  • Miii mamba hermosos perritos sin duda

  • It says they could keep up with a horse how bout a mountain bike on trail and road ?

  • @Chaparral572 A ridgeback will have no problems following you on a mountain bike. I live out on the swedish countryside and sometimes i take my motorcross bike out for a spin with my dog. He can easily keep up with me for about 2 hours, then he gets a little bit tired. So if you get one of these dogs im sure he/she will handle the speed of a mountain bike ;)

my dog even beat me in a dragrace against my ktm 450cc :)

  • Does anyone know how they are with people with allergies?

  • @laurascr I grew up with allergies (hay fever) and I had several Rhodesian Ridgebacks in the home. If your skin is sensitive to 'spiky' hair, that might be a problem. They don't lose hair at all, though.

  • i'm now 13 and i got a rhodesian ridgeback when i was 4 .....he is the best dog i know

and when i whoss 8 i wendt to walk whit him .... and we did gow to a grassfield en i was runnig and my dad cald thor (the dog) and so thor came to daddy and hi run me over .... --' i mean i wass 8 and the field whass like 2000 jards and he cuddend miss me i was 14 inc ... on thet 2000 jaards ......

srry im from the netherlands and i neverr had englisch on my school so i cant write inglisch .. thumb up !!!

  • @bassilxXxX i've also got one of this fantasic race.but today my dog Kenya is 9 years old and she's so lazy!!!!!!

  • @Cosimo2797 my dog is not lazy he just licks u evry second of the day ...and never sits stil

  • They were bred by South Afrikans to hunt lions and guard dogs, and because South Africans didn't take kindly towards South Afrikans (RR being a natural gaurd dog) took a dislike towards coloured people and some rare cases you will find racism in a RR :|

But, they are beautiful dogs, when I'm older I would love to get two and bred them once and have a pack of RR - only if I live in the country side x) Cant wait till Im old!!!

  • @AmazinPurpleButerfly I had a RR when i was born in SA and he didnt take kind to the black society, it wouldnt even let our maid in but my mom always told me that there are blacks out there who do steal from the white (we got stuff stolen from us too) so mom had no choice but to train our dog to chase off black people so i wouldnt exacly call it racism, Its more like protecting our stuff. If the blacks didnt steal then we wouldnt train the dog to chase away black people

  • @KaylaLeighMT LOOOOL thats epic!!

  • @KaylaLeighMT haha, funny!

  • i asked my vet about my ridgeback; ridgebacks are not immune to insect bites...

  • I love my past and present rhodesians i was raised with one since i was born and he was very gentle and loving my little brother used to sleep on top of his back

  • We got a puppy at 6 weeks old that was supposedly a 'labrador retriever mix'

he's fully grown now and we've only just figured out that he's a rhodesian...definitely not disappointed :)

  • I have one of these dogs! They are amazing dogs! I wouldn't trade mine for the world!!! I lovee him! He was born at my house, his name is Braxton Bubba Bowen. ( Yes he has a full name )

  • My Ridgey is sooo amazing... I've barely had to do any training and apart from occasionally stealing food from the kitchen counter, she is an angel and I can take her anywhere! She walks without a lead, she's incredibly gentle with adults, children, babies, other dogs and cats etc. I walk her every day but if I can't, she just cuddles up to me and never gets destructive. She keeps us safe and did I mention that she's absolutely stunning?! I couldn't live without her! BEST DOG EVER!! :)

  • I LOVE MY RHODESIAN

  • ol butter cup was a rhody :/ 120 pounds of love rip buttercup

  • used to have one, died :(

  • my dog is something crossed with a rhodesian ridgeback and he is so cute!

  • aww.. my dog is rhodesian ridgeback! she is my best friend i love her! she is 5 and she is in 2 or 3 of my videos, please watch em!

  • i loves dogs, my favorite animal. so loyal.we depend on them and they depend on us.

  • ridgebacks and huskys are my fav dogs lovely animals

  • cool dog! I wish I had one of these, but I'm not a superfit athlete like Carl Lewis so maybe I'll just get a sausage dog instead...lol kiddin, this dogs are awesome though! durable and brave, what more can you ask for in a pet :)

  • @clark2400 you don't have to be super fit to be able to spend an hour a day with your dog. Walking and playing ball is just fine, you don't have to run a marathon every day

  • my cousin has one called rego and he looks after her son lets him chew his tale sit on himuse him asa pillow and he never even growls at him when the little boy goes on the road rego drags him back.Ilove them dogs especialy rego

  • I loved my ridgeback!

  • Rhodiesian rigebacks rule! I got figgy a few months ago and shes so sweet. She is a bit crazy cause shes only 9 months old but ots of progress wit her training. I am only 12 and my old dog died last year :(. I thinki was a bouseront. I think rr are one of the bet breeds of dog ever peace

  • my rr is crazy protective of me. shes good with people just kinda weary when there not on my property and shes never met them before. not agressive but auto stands by me soon as she sees people. my cousins come by my place all the time there between 2-7 they play with her all day. all u have to do is get them around babies and youngens at an early age. bar non the best dog ive ever owned. never own another breed. n yeh she likes to cuddle so much its annoying lol.

  • It is a dog which is good with the family's children I believe. Bobo was a brother to me, we were inseparable from his birth on Halloween in '97 to when I got my first B.A. in '09 when he passed away the month before I graduated. It is true they are cautious with non-family, especially outside children, that is only their protective side, they will guard and observe, but not challenge unless they sense there is a bad person. And Bobo was good at that. I miss him badly, love you Bobo.

  • Odorless? They aren't. - Also you'll find ridgeback hair in places you wouldn't imagine.

Concerning small children - Some RRs might not like kids between 3-5 y/o from 'outside the pack'(probably because of their 'noice'). Females are slightly more prone to become more of a handful, but if treated with firmness, love, and atttention, they will listen/obey and love you back forever.

-They like cuddling, they're caring, friendly, and super fast!

  • I might be mistaken as I'm not a native speaker, but it sounds to me like the voice in video, at 0:23, says "immune to insect bites". I don't think that's correct: I have a RR that got bitten by a (wasn't sure if it was bee or wasp), and I had to take her straight to the pet hospital 'cause she got really swollen all over the area and so on. The doctor then said to me that no breeds are immune to insect bites - this longish comment just to let you know, in case u have a RR as well.

  • @kbit82 I'd also like to know what "immune" means in this case. Our RR gets bitten frequently and has these little lumps all over his body, very much the same as humans do after a moquito bite

  • @jumano Mine too.... freaked me out the first time it happened! It's usually caused by mosquitos or nettles and the like. Doesn't seem to bother her tho :)

  • i have a ridgeback without a ridge and they are great dogs which i would reccomend to anyone looking for a good dog, mine was already trained but good training makes them a great dog to come home to

  • this is the perfect dog!they bred all the faults of those dogs out 2 create a big tough athletic and loyal dog!ppl dont give these dogs enough credit

  • i LOVE ridgebacks! ive had 2, jake and rocky and they have never growled or bitten any one. not even my two twin brothers who where 1 and annoyed the crap out of my first rocky. they are the best dogs ever and are gettin more popular now. theres even one on the green IAMS dog food bag. i hope they become the top breed in the usa in a few years.

  • i was just with 2, we were playing in the edge of the pool and 1 jumped in the water and followed me. i paniced untill i just simply stopped him with my palm, soo easy soo sweet

  • This dog almost sounds too good to be true!

  • This sounds like tha ultimate athletic dog

  • I would have trusted my Ridgies with both my kids life and my own! I've owned other dogs, but none as smart or loving as one of these. My female used to know when I was about to wake, every morning the first sight I saw was her eyes looking into mine...how I miss that.

It broke my heart to have her put down (cancer of the spine), one of the worse days of my life. It is of course down to the owner, but if you want a life long friend and can give them time and love, then there's no better breed.

  • Hi my name is bono and I'm a Ridge Back too! But Im mixed with a Lab too. Please subb back cause I subbed You

    ALL DOGS RE-UNITE

  • I miss our Rhodesian Ridgeback. He was the smartest and most amazing friend.

  • Dude my family own and show these dogs trust me they LOVE kids we have 8 in our house

  • i have a rhodesian ridgeback st bernard mix :)

  • Ammun to insect bites? my rdigeback got bit by a brown recluse in her face and she almost went blind!

  • @1800ibangurmom Where do you live? That spider scares me more than any other creature on earth. More than sharks or gators.

  • @sml411 michigan we are full of them

  • Best Dogs ever!

  • immune to insect bites? thats raw, im sick off having to deal with fucking ticks digging into my kangal..

  • .,who's breeding rhodesian ridgeback in manila, message me, i want 1

  • I had two ridgebacks back to back growing up , one from when i was born -8yrs old and one from 9 to 21. I cried for each one for a couple days. they're just another family member they're amazing dogs! i ll be getting one of my own as soon as i get a house with a big backyard

  • i have a ridgeback and he is happy to just sit around but when you play with him because he is only 2 years he is very powerful

  • my grandad has 2 of them, male and female, called Nero and Reda, female's are extremely gentle, you can do anything to them as long as they are not hurt, males are more protective though, so keep an eye out when they are with kids, but great dogs!

  • This Dogs are so clever !

  • I love my Ridgeback. He has a great sense of humor and because of him a couple of my family members now want one. I agree, they like to be where you are and will conform to your lifestyle. They DO need exercise, all dogs do to a certain degree, but do not freak out if you can't one day. And when you have gained their trust and love you HAVE IT!

  • My rhodesian ridgeback died yesterday...and I can't stop crying...I know she can't come back...but I still miss my friend.

  • @kyuubikid213 Awww that's terrible - I know the feeling, just remember the good times and know your dog was loved and had a good life.

  • @kyuubikid213 - The saddest part of pet ownership. I feel for you and dread when my day comes. I can't even think about it right now. Sorry for your loss.

  • Amazing ....... ich habe auch eien ridgeback ich liebe diese tiere

  • I have one. She is amazing!!!

  • I want one!!

  • Someday I would love to see another Anthromorphic animated film with all of these different dog and cat breeds represented as aspects of society. I can totally see a Special Forces team made up of these fabulous animals!

  • @mrRastafari01 very well pointed out :)

  • these dogs chase Lions? i really wanna see that.

  • @elinheartstristin They don't "catch" them they track em and bay *bark at* them.

  • @elinheartstristin you can´t see because the hunt of african lion is forbbidden, but there are many photos of safaris, paints and write records of those days that prove that.

  • @emileo115 actually they dont hunt the lions they corner a lion in a pack until the hunter gets there and they probably trank a lion not kill

  • This video is wrong. Rhodesian Ridgebacks came before the Great Dane, Greyhound and Bloodhound. Then how can those breeds be used to create the Rhodesian Ridgeback when they don't even exist yet?

  • is it a good guard dog I need a dog that would attack anyone who enters my yard !

  • I got a rhodesian ridgeback 1 week ago and i can back up that they are very consistant and strong willed

  • if you notice a RR walk and look, and even when they ly down the look like a lion.

  • African Lion Hound or African Lion Dog—Simba Inja in Ndebele, Shumba Imbwa in Shona—because of their ability to distract a lion while awaiting their master to make the kill.

The original breed standard was drafted by F.R. Barnes, in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), in 1922.It is not a south african dog but ZIMBABWEAN.

  • ya it haz a sperm on its back...

  • @OMFGZERGRUSHZORZ very funny. Yeah. You do know your dogs. How about a cat?

  • i just got a puppy of a ridgeback/german shepherd. SHE IS ADORABLE and GENIUS ! probably smarter than me (:

  • I LOVE MY RIDGEBACK MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD!!!!

  • Grew up with these dogs at home in SA. Constantly got knocked off my feet running around the garden but they are the best friends ever!! Love them!

  • Ridgeback forever :) I have my one and its my love for over 6 years... :)

  • i have a ridgeback called scooby (yes scooby-doo) and hes rips trees down!!! i do love my doggy :) and i told my freind of what this breed can do and now she odesnt want to come to my house :/ bu ti did tell her that my little sister was a toddler when we got him as a puppy. so protective too a rottewieler started on him. that has nothing on him!!!! best dogs ever!!! i want one when i grow up :)

  • My favorite breed! This is what I call a REAL dog!

  • @FysiotherapieYEss Damn right! This dog is like a fucking guardian angel! i wish i had one ;x;

  • I loved my mums friends Ridgeback. But if you started running, he would get way too excited and pounce on you...Then proceed to lick your face. Such powerful, but such gentle creatures. When I leave college and get my own place, this is the dog for me :)

  • My ridgeback is lazy as well but is also up for play if you want to. Sometimes he will bring the play to you as well. I describe him as happy go lucky. He is a good size boy at slightly bigger than AKC standards weighing in at 100 pounds. He is still muscular though, no fat! I am def looking to get another one but not from a champion breeder this time as I only want them for pets.

  • I have a 7 month old rr girl called nala defo the best dog around we have had a great bond since I traveled so far to get her and since that day she has followed me everywhere bit of a nightmare when my wife takes her out but hey who didn't used to play up for the babysitter!!!lol if all go's to plan she will have pups so there will be me more around.

  • muslims want to take away are damn dogs...stop the assault now

  • i have a ridgeback/am staff cross and these dogs are simply the most lovable dogs i have ever known. a freind of mine has two pure ridgebacks, one of which is a past european champion and they are the most loyal, courageous and happy go lucky dogs ever.

  • not good with younger kids? when i was younger, my brother and i used to pretend our RR was a horse and ride her all over the house. she never minded. she was the gentlest creature ever.

and the RR I have now is the laziest thing ever. hates exercise. either i always get the "exception to the rule" dogs or they're just like that...and this video is wrong

  • Not good with young children? When I was born my parents owned 2 Rhodesians, and they never left my side. I used to take naps on Rajah the older male. Rajah died when I was six and Rani died in 2007. They are great companions and I will never forget them.

  • @17107Jon17107 how much for a pup?

  • @francoisgrenier mmm?

I'm not a breeder and ony 14 so I cant really answer your question

  • @17107Jon17107 haha makes sense lil duuuuude

  • @francoisgrenier he may not know but i do (my cuz has one) from $500-$1000

  • it can take down a lion with a pack of three....not by itself

  • @ghost4doom nah they can't "take down" lions - thats ridiculous. even 3 hyenas can't take down a lion. they "keep the lion at bay" as in they go out in packs of 2-20 and find a lion and then pester it and annoy it until the hunter comes along and shoots the lion...so they're called the lionhound because they helped their lion-hunter owners.

  • @ghost4doom - Incorrect, ghost4doom is correct. This dog is special because many dogs will not even approach a lion. While other breeds will always try and attack the lion (terriers) which is always fatal. So RR are the most successful lion dogs that can do it and live to tell about it.

  • Mine poops in the refrigerator

  • had to get my Snoop put down RIP Big Fella <3

  • My dog buffy was a rr ... I cry as i watch this video because i miss her so much (she got put down for being aggressive to vets) i hate the rspca though because they didnt even inform my family about this :'(

  • I have 2 of these dudes and they are the most wonderful creatures. Just as said before, they just want to be doing what you are doing. Not hyper at all, and they think they are lap dogs. True pack animals. Sweetest, kindest animals to everyone, but they can sense trouble. The only time they bark is when they are alerting you to something. And they are the most athletic agile dogs I've ever seen

  • My dog is staffy/ridge-back and she is super-fit. Everyday she runs at high speeds with me on my mountain bike for hours. After running for a while she gets tired, yet all she needs is a 5 minute rest and she can go for even more running! Not to mention she is small and has small legs, so she has to move her legs very fast :D.

I can't imagine how fast and fit a full ridge-back is.

  • My boy is 8 months now, and i can't imagine having any other dog. He has his days where he is a couch potatoe, but for the most part he wants his excersise.

  • I have 2 rr girls and they're absolutely best dogs ever :D

one of them just got 14 little pups and it's her first time xD

  • Comment removed

  • I own a rodesin ridge back mixed with german shepard all black cept feet named socks wonderfull dog shes fast loves out doors and hunting and very good dog..

  • @themanpker Omg I had one of these named taxi and socks LOL

  • my 10 month male diesel is a pleasure to own.. goes for a little wander every now and then lol, but never once has shown anger or aggression.. thing is with ridgys and people who have them will agree.. there the ultimate dog if ya want a DOG not just pet's there part of there owner, if you cant understand this relationship forget it.. not fair on dog.. also lol.. there not shy or discreet lol. my diesel will lick his sack anywhere lol and any1 else's if he got the chance.. true animal.. true dog

  • Can someone please tell me why they "sacrifice" the ones that don´t have a ridge?

  • Comment removed

  • @emileo115 Actually is the other way, dermoid sinius attacks the ones that have the ridges, and the rigde is a genetic "mutation"

  • Comment removed

  • @emileo115 Wait what?

  • My RR is 14 and the sweetest dog alive. She's a little chubby since she's old but boy do we love her :)

  • Rhodesian Ridgebacks are great dogs. Big, friendly, intelligent and great guard dogs. I would recommned them to anyone who wants a large, intelligent dog like a german shepard but not as agressive. I think they are fine with kids personally; my family got one when I was four and he was never a problem.

  • my dog was a rhodesian mixed with a german shepeard. he recently just passed=[ i sure do miss him

  • @NewDarkAges13 sorry for your loss.

  • My dog is a rhodesian ridgeback. She's just wonderfull and a very very very awesome friend. I love her. And she's beautiful.

  • The only slight disagreement I have is what this video says about Rhodesians for younger kids. My family got a Rhodesian two weeks before I was born and in a way we grew up together. We had a bond that no one else in my family had; she used to let me lay my head on her stomach like a pillow and we would lay in the sun. Her name was Zipper (creative, I know) and she was apart of our family for 13 years before she passed away.

I agree with all these comments, Rhodesians are the greatest.

  • My Ridgeback is amazing. I had never heard of Ridgebacks before I got him and I wouldn't trade him for any other type of dog. He loves to wrestle and play and they definitely require a lot of energy and attention.

  • My Ridgy is lazy! He's very fit and trim yet when taken to a dog park doesn't socialise unless approached and bores easily after 10 minutes. However, he's the best ridgy i've ever had, loyal, obedient and very friendly with our cat...(actually scared of her in a way). Would never consider getting any other breed. Real personality!

  • excellent video!! Looking at getting a rb in the future, just doing my homework just now, amazing dogs wanted one for years! does anyone know of any respected and reputable breeders in Scotland?

  • Rhodesian Ridgeback Or German Shepherd ?

  • I love my Rhodesian!!!!!!! Every pet owner of an RR who watched this probably smiled, and said "Yeah! The most amazing dog to walk the face of the earth, and I've got one!"

  • I have one named simba. It is only a puppy But it is very cutttteeeee!

  • why rhodesian ridgebacks needs a experienced owner??????

  • We've got one at home! He's huge and gentle. They only fight when taunted. Ones my neighbours dog, who is very agressive, tried to attack our RR Binik. i was really amazed when Binik grabbed the dog and sort of trew it on his back. The dog fled with his tail between his legs and binik just sort of sat there like' yeez that all you got???' hahah

  • Am getting my puppy in 5 weeks time and cannot wait.. She will love running around here in the African bushveld.

  • At 2:14 does she say Aikka?

  • Very good!

  • haha mine is fat and it has smaller little ears. haha and it has lots of droopy dog sags and hes such a wimp lol.

  • Although it would be ideal to exercise my Ridgeback, I find that they are huge couch potatoes and are down for whatever. If you want to sit around, they'll sit around. If you want to play or exercise, they'll do that too as long as they get to be with you. Mine isn't like some breeds who will go crazy and be overly hyper if not exercised. He's awesome.

  • @sheilavisek they really do need exercise, more for health reasons. They will gladly sleep on the couch their whole lives, but for their health sake they do need daily walks. An hour a day at least is ideal.

  • @landis69 Well most creatures DO need exercise for health reasons and mine does go for walks, about 2 miles most days. But more of what I was getting at is that while some dogs are wild and hyper if they don't get exercise, Ridgebacks are pretty chill and they just like to do whatever you're doing.

  • @sheilavisek - I'll agree they will chill after around 2 years of age. After they are about a year old start running them to get the energy out or they can get into trouble. Actually, they'll probably get into trouble anyway till they are about 2 years old. Then they chill, but you should never leave anything on the kitchen counters.

  • @sheilavisek so basically its fat

  • @WeSnipee Basically, no. He's quite trim.

  • @sheilavisek

i recognize those things in my Rhodesian.

  • @sheilavisek hes probably sick bring him to the vet if u were a proper owner u would have brought him to the vet

  • @zafeamoon He's probably sick? He's perfectly healthy and happy...why would you even add that if I were a good owner I would take him to the vet as if you even know? He goes to the vet regularly for check ups, allergy meds, nail clippings...all sorts of things. I find your ignorant approach very strange.

  • @zafeamoon im just paying with u good luck with yr ridgeback lool

  • @sheilavisek

That sounds exactly like my boy, he is just happy to cruise with me whatever I'm doing. He loves cuddles and someone to LEAN on. He will protect me and his family (my hubby and girls) from anything and anyone, I wouldn't recommend trying to break into my house or attacking us if he is around. I just adore him.

  • had to put mine down a few years ago :(

  • my ridgeback is so friendly :)

  • Great dog, I really want one when I get my own place. Question for owners however, you think they will bite someone in the ass if they break into your house uninvited?

  • I dont know, but i think mine will....its in the ridgeback instincts.

  • @RepPhilly215 oh yes they are better guard dogs than an german shepherd and thats saying something

  • i had one mixed with a pitbull she was the best dog i ever had

  • I Love My ridgeback he looks just like the one in the vid. Hes brave smart and beautiful./ named Leonidas also!

  • first of all they cant take on a lion they werent breed to do that they were breed to keep the lion at bay which they did in packs of 7-25 ad they didnt kill or fight the lion the hunter itself did this just keept the lion at bay!

  • @billyoffire first of all NO dog can take on a lion. Thats WHY they were bred to keep the lion at bay rather than fight the lion..because its suicide! But the fact is this, even know they were bred to keep the lion at bay..many ridgebacks actually did foolishly go in and fight a lion and get killed, even know they weren't suppsed to.. Ridgebacks are ferocious on the hunt. Most other dogs dont have the guts to get close to a lion let alone keep one at bay. They run just hearing the lion Roar!

  • i love my ridge too. stupid as hell though..still, gotta love him. he's the most affectionate, happy dog!

oh and about as brave as a mouse. ok well, he does show courage when he thinks one of us in danger..which is what counts, right?

  • i know exactly what you mean. my RR is so good natured but retarded as hell lol

  • @animalmadloz lol. yeah plus whenever my dog does something stupid, he looks around at us to see if any of us have noticed. its hilarious! love him to bits!

  • yah lions are like 500 pounds not 800
