@ecuachet According to an article called "Reloading Machine Gun" - you can find it with a google search - for the famous Band of Gypsies Machine Gun (same concert), "In order, Jimi ran his Fender's signal through a Vox wah pedal, a Roger Mayer Axis fuzz, a Fuzz Face, a UniVibe, and finally a second Mayer pedal, the Octavia."
@ecuachet Trying to get your guitar to sing like this one is like trying to catch a cloud from the ground. It ain't the equipment, its the person. Good luck trying......
@starchedownon84s I am a drummer and that is the sound we make when we know that this shit is going go deep and hard on the ONE and then beyond, so buckle up kiddies. Game on!! AH!!!!!
My guess is that when Jimi was upto do tnem Band of Gypsys shows at Filmore along with his friend Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles (who already was in the game) he felt in a very good mood. He felt healthy when his body and mind was in good conditions. The reahearsing (probably in Jimis Electric Ladyland studios) must have gone really great. The first show is absolutely one of the best liive-performances from Jimis side ever captured. His soloing on Machine Gun is beyond words to describe...
@greatbigbubby Not to worry: the Jimi forgives, the Jimi provides. Two footprints in the sand and what not, when there's only one, it's because Jimi was making you fly with those mesmerizing riffs.

@LilAwad2 We are god, a man in the sky with a beard and sandals was always a myth. We are all one counsciousness experiencing itself subjectively. Nature is god.
I prefer buddy miles' drumming to mitch mitchell's. mitch is just all over the place at all the wrong times. buddy just seems to sit on the groove and bounce it in different directions.
Jimi's vocals on this track never fail to make me come out in goosebumps!!! Just perfect !! Three awesome musicians make this one of the greatest live albums of all time. " Even a jelly fish will tell ya that"!!!
The greatest guitar opening I have ever heard - WOW - what was that!? Can't believe this was made back in the 70s. Absolute mind boggling composition! This is why Jimi is considered the best ever. Listen to where he goes at the 2:35 mark - Long live JIMI the king.

I did not get into Hendrix until 1975 and this was the first album of his that I got and only because I heard that he played at one time with my favorite group the Isley brothers and I'v been HOOK since and is that Buddy Miles playing drums and singing?
For me I don't just think a guitar has been played any better than this. The riffs, the tones, the changes of pace, the whole whole package. It's live to boot with "Message of Love" and "Machine Gun." Maybe this had been equaled. I don't know.

Si tenia razon Gentry, no le cambia las cuerdas a su Lira el Maese Allen Hendrix, Che Larry al Batakero lo vi a unos 5 metros de distancia( es Izquirdo tambor) Buddy Miles.
I had a friendly argument with a guy the other day. I see it as being rather pointless to debate who's "better" when it comes to music since art is expression and not a contest, but he asked who I think the "best" guitarist ever is. I said Hendrix is the one who stands out most to me and that's saying a lot because I'm a drummer and don't usually pay attention to guitar. He said that Slash from GnR is the best. Any opinions on that? I doubt he's heard much Hendrix.
@jbjindra Slash fitted into the scene and made music that allowed him to be part of it. Jimi did something new and innovated. When I think of Slash I think of a big top hat. When I think of Hendrix I think of his music and it's relevance to all music that followed it.

Noodles37UK Jimi actually did use Flying V's also, you rarely saw them but he used them to icy effect on the Hawaii album. Had some painted ones too.

jimi hendrix is the only case in rock history which the guitar plays him and not vice-versa...that's why no one can't beat him!

His guitar picked sounds from the surroundings, like resonating the whole universe.
