  • the riff with octavia is so cool. hammer on 13 from 10 3 times on the b string then go up to 15 and bend hard! then go 15 E and bend many times such a cool riff

  • it actually is called power of soul...it is incorrectly listed on many releases...including the one i got off of itunes. my version says this song is called power to love too...look it up.

  • OMG that intro.........!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @artestante88 Wah and fuzz when he cuts loose shortly after intro.

  • When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace!!!

  • @artestante88 He is mainly using just the fuzz face but kicks the Octavia on at about the 3 minute mark for 30-45 seconds.

  • Very cool ...

  • what kind of pedal use hendrix in this song?

  • This song CRANKS so hard on so many levels!

  • Help! I can get this song out of my head! :)

  • On a roll today...light a joint... preferably some name brand shit. Grab your gear and go out on patrol. Colors flashing all around, lighting up the night sky. What? Did you see movement on the left flank? Can't tell. Night's too dark, equipment's too cheap. Pass me another toke, I'll figure this shit out in a minute...@55BabyBoomer (topdogbabyboomer has been cancelled by...)

  • How can Jimi play with much energy is beyond me..... wow!

  • "Band of Gypsies and Machine gun" were two of the most powerful songs in the world,it touches most of the guys who were in Nam and the messages were moving, very powerful material at that time......just totally AWESOME!!!!

  • Just remember: Jimi and George Harrison only died because God needed them to teach him to play guitar and sitar.

Remember that next time you're feeling sad about their deaths.

  • FUCK! this is AWESOMEE!!!!!!!!!

  • Band of Gypsies, A True Mindbender from the Vietnam Era (70-71). A Classic Hendrix in his blues/jazz own creative mode, playing unhindered by the constraint of recording 45 singles. Machine Gun and Who Knows on the same album. Revolutianary

  • even a jellyfish can tell you that....

    classic jimi!

  • THIS CONCERT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE PUT OUT ON RECORD OR WANTED OUT BY JIMI, BUT HE HAD A LEGAL OBLIGATION FROM A PAST CONTACT..THIS MAY NEVER BEEN HEARD AS MUCH ANS LOT LOVE IT WOAH...HIS MANAGEMENT [ MIKE JEFFRIES] DIDNT WANT THIS BAND TO EXIST.HE HATED THESE SONGS...ALOT.....GLAD JIMI HAD A PEN IN 1965 WE WOULDNT HAVE THIS KILLER CONCERT ON CD FOR 40 PLUS YEARS TILL NOW MOST LIKE .

  • blimey guys , chill out just listen to the music, stop all the this that and the other!!just enjoy the tunes !!!! by the way if i dont see you no more in this life i'll meet you in the next one and dont be late,

  • Just to clarify this song IS 'Power Of Love' and that IS its only title.

  • I thought I knew Hendrix, but his is the most awesome version I ever heard. What's with the join at about 3:50 though, I've got something for nothing and I still feel cheated?

  • Wow!!!!!!

  • <33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

  • Power of Soul, by the record! edit the name. God bless you Jimi RIP!

  • No doubt that the intro' to this song is one of the best --- even after all these years!!

  • A tour de force of guitar virtuosity!! the intro is a massive wall of sound! "with the power of you, u do anything u wanna do" "don't fly them airplanes too low" remember your still a man. dig it, well pick up on it! All power to the present!

  • Is it called Power of SOUL or Power to LOVE?

  • @Luxmaxnike Power to LOVE !

Power of Soul it's an other version, but i don't like it very well.

This one is much better. It's the true POWER of hendrix /D Enjoy !

  • @ecor2 YEA I AM DIGGING THIS VERY MUCH

  • @ecor2 no, this is power of soul.

  • @Luxmaxnike Actually its called Message to Love. Buddy Miles says "Jimi's gonna do a thing he wrote called Message to Love." Its on the Band of Gypsys CD I believe.

  • @romienomie Message of Love is another song, both of them are on Band of Gypsys.

  • BRILLIANT !!!

  • Thumbs up if you're a guitarist.

  • This will power you up...With the Power of Soul! Buddy and Billy laying down that funky beat and Jimi just ripping over it...enjoy live Jimi!

  • At 2:58, you should feel the fine hairs all over your body stand on end reaching for THIS source of electricity coming out of your speakers or headphones!

  • Out of all of my favorite Jimi songs, this has to be my absolute favorite. But it is also the last one that I heard that was new to me from Hendrix too :P RIP Jimi :/

  • @NoFaceNowThatsAce LOL, I feel the exact same way.

  • This is the classic version, by far the best.

  • Jimi says that anything is possible with the power of soul... I have faith in him.

  • any ladies still remember them sloppy wet ones?

  • @startocasterfranck fuzz and wah, eh? I'm gtting some unique sounds from flanger and boss blues driver, but clearly NOT hendrix.

  • @ecuachet According to an article called "Reloading Machine Gun" - you can find it with a google search - for the famous Band of Gypsies Machine Gun (same concert), "In order, Jimi ran his Fender's signal through a Vox wah pedal, a Roger Mayer Axis fuzz, a Fuzz Face, a UniVibe, and finally a second Mayer pedal, the Octavia."

  • Anybody have any suggestions about how I can make my guitar sound this good?

  • @ecuachet 100 years of practice or divine talent

  • @ecuachet fuzz face and wah

  • @ecuachet Trying to get your guitar to sing like this one is like trying to catch a cloud from the ground. It ain't the equipment, its the person. Good luck trying......

  • @6402680 Amen. Sure is a strong attack. Not to mention that some of the vibrato in the intro is crazy good with the volume turned up like that.

  • great photo collection

  • I like 3:59, it looks like he's underwater singing "Valleys of Neptune".

  • groovy man just pure groovy man

  • After the little intro, Jimi switches from guitar to a FLAMETHROWER!!!!!!

  • Did you hear Buddy Go "Ahh!" in the beginning you should have known it was gonna be on!

  • @starchedownon84s I am a drummer and that is the sound we make when we know that this shit is going go deep and hard on the ONE and then beyond, so buckle up kiddies. Game on!! AH!!!!!

  • @MrVeesworld My dad made me notice that part on the original record. he's a drummer too.

  • @starchedownon84s VERY COOL!!

  • yeah man im diggin' it right now

    haha its awesome

  • Isn't it called Power of Soul?

  • this song is a good of example why jimi is one of the greatest. . AWSOME!!

  • my favorite song!!! Smoke weed!!

  • forget the images with this clip, close your eyes, turn up the volume and ENJOY!

  • So Rockin....

  • So Rockin....

  • He invented another language, and gave it to us.

  • with the power... of soul... anything is possible

  • My guess is that when Jimi was upto do tnem Band of Gypsys shows at Filmore along with his friend Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles (who already was in the game) he felt in a very good mood. He felt healthy when his body and mind was in good conditions. The reahearsing (probably in Jimis Electric Ladyland studios) must have gone really great. The first show is absolutely one of the best liive-performances from Jimis side ever captured. His soloing on Machine Gun is beyond words to describe...

  • simioooo

  • damn! STOP compearing jimi hendrix to god!!

I mean hes awsome but hes NOT Hendrix!!

  • @LilAwad2 that's real cute! i bet God smiles about that one too right before he knocks you in the dirt. ever heard of blasphemy?

  • @greatbigbubby Not to worry: the Jimi forgives, the Jimi provides. Two footprints in the sand and what not, when there's only one, it's because Jimi was making you fly with those mesmerizing riffs.

  • @greatbigbubby stop being so serious

  • @lambgtr7 you're right! humor! really was a cute comment. i get cranky if i don't get my dose of jimi. my boy in the army ,i gave him james for his middle name. he came home safe from iraq 3 tours.

  • @LilAwad2 --Hilarious...

  • @LilAwad2 Funny!!!!!!

  • @LilAwad2 I don't think that's funny, that's really offensive to God!

  • @LilAwad2 thats a good one, i though u was gonna go da other way with it but u didnt. . .LOL

  • @LilAwad2 i think he exists because of god so do you with your comments;)) why else would you be wasting time love music dont make an excuse out of it;DD

  • @kibablood23

hey we just kidding dude.. shure god is the best!!

hes like jimi's finest creation!! :D

  • @LilAwad2 We are god, a man in the sky with a beard and sandals was always a myth. We are all one counsciousness experiencing itself subjectively. Nature is god.

  • @LilAwad2 WELL SOME SEE IT AS SPRITUAL NOT MEANING GOD...JUST WORDS..LET EM HAVE IT MAN..COME ON..

  • @theouter9 bad trippin'?

  • Love the way Buddy makes it HIS beat. Jimi had better be there! lol

  • THANK YOU

  • I prefer buddy miles' drumming to mitch mitchell's. mitch is just all over the place at all the wrong times. buddy just seems to sit on the groove and bounce it in different directions.

  • BUDDY MILES!

  • FUNKY!!!!!!

  • Man the first minute and twenty-two seconds of this....!! I must have listened to that part alone like 20 times in a row (in the car)!!

Plus "Machine Gun" is on this album (SHAME ON YOU if you don't have it!)

    Miss you Jimi!!

Also: R.I.P. - Buddy Miles (drummer), Mitch Mitchell (drummer) and Noel Redding (bassist) .

    You guys made GREAT music!!

    Thank you!

  • Go Jimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Drum and Bass at 5:09-5:19

  • 2 persons don't understand the music or they thought "dislike" bottom is "like" bottom

  • hendrix isnt god hes just a man who happens to be the most amazing guitarist who ever lived bar none mindblowing.....................

  • Jimi's vocals on this track never fail to make me come out in goosebumps!!! Just perfect !! Three awesome musicians make this one of the greatest live albums of all time. " Even a jelly fish will tell ya that"!!!

  • which scale is this in?

  • @Palomablanca1978 GOD"S SCALE!!!!

  • The greatest guitar opening I have ever heard - WOW - what was that!? Can't believe this was made back in the 70s. Absolute mind boggling composition! This is why Jimi is considered the best ever. Listen to where he goes at the 2:35 mark - Long live JIMI the king.

  • You know that overdrive on the intro was mind blowing when I first heard it back 1970 after buying the record....................but the really strange thing is to hear it now on Youtube in 2011 that it is more mind blowing today than back then to me..........why?

Well considering the state of popular music today (and you could have considered Jimi's wokr popular not in style.... but in acceptance) this is so radical.........

  • @jacopman I wasn't alive in 1970 but the first time I heard this I probably felt the same you did, and yes it's because of the state of pop music today, great comment.

  • @blackstrat6897 ".... the state of pop music today...."

    What!?

What about Justin Bieber and master crooner William Hung?

    Just kidding. JUST KIDDING!!!

    :D

  • @jacopman i LOVE that intro!!

    Oh man!

  • great pics!!!!

  • My fav track of this album and one of the best Jimi ever did

    dreamcommander1

  • What I grew up listening to. Are thet Great? I've heard nothing close to this music since I was 18 years old. I'm 52. Do I need to sat anymore. GODS? No! They're artists. Not GODS There is only ONE GOD.

  • all the good artist die young

  • This is badass stuff!!

  • I did not get into Hendrix until 1975 and this was the first album of his that I got and only because I heard that he played at one time with my favorite group the Isley brothers and I'v been HOOK since and is that Buddy Miles playing drums and singing?

  • @1222vester yup hendrix was playing with buddy and billy.. and yea buddy is doing backing vocals on this track and singing oh others from the album

  • the band of gypsies was so hard core

  • 2 people don't have any soul...

  • For me I don't just think a guitar has been played any better than this. The riffs, the tones, the changes of pace, the whole whole package. It's live to boot with "Message of Love" and "Machine Gun." Maybe this had been equaled. I don't know.

  • Anything is possible. You must go beyond to be a man as incredible as Hendrix.

  • is this song on any of his cds???

  • Comment removed

  • @chunchuck2000 band of gypsys album

  • Jimi was amazing no doubt, no body came close tohim! another thing he was such a great song writer to!

  • Explosion alert at 0:18

  • @Dns2080 the best fucking part of the whole song man.

  • Jimi was fuckin amazin period!!!!! I love Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughn but Hendrix stands alone

  • the solo that opens this monster is one of the single greatest moments in electric guitar history and one of Jimi's many staggering moments.ASTOUNDING.

  • one of the best guitar solo of the guitar 's God !! Astonishing!!

  • T minus 20 seconds and counting....

  • @booifojoe Seriously, that power boost at 20 seconds is devastating.

  • @jgcaesar4 Yes, indeed - sit too close and you'll get a nose bleed.

  • from another planet!

  • Buddy and Billy kept Jimi more grounded and he had less of a tendency to go off the deep end with Buddy on the drums. No doubt the BOG was better than the JHE.

  • @DONDIVA1969 i agree though i like both the band of gypsies is my taste

  • would do anything to see this fucking genius at work in concert, just once..

  • Fabuleuse intro ! ! Jusqu' à 1min40, le jeu d' Hendrix est absolument prodigieux.....I agree : None guitarist has ever come close. Metheny est extraordinaire dans un style totalement différent.....Mais Hendrix a réalisé une alchimie unique entre Electricité, Energie et....-et c' est là qu' il se distingue de tous ces hard rockers analphabètes -....MUSIQUE ! ! !

    C' est un musicien génial.

  • HENDRIX IS GOD

  • @TheBake12 I agree! Hendrix paved the way for so many other musicians...Jimi was an original, genius!

  • @TheBake12 Hendirx is MY GOD

  • @TheBake12 No! ELVIS is God! Hendrix is JESUS! xD

  • @TheBake12 Most assuredly, Hendrix is not God. That said, God made quite a work with Jimi.

  • @TheBake12 yes, that's literally true!!!

  • @TheBake12 no HENDRIX was a god and he decided to come to earth as human so we all mortals can listen to his music..

  • @Outdoorkiller3 wrong Hendrix was human and God is God don't mix it up

  • geez, if you think about it, it honestly does not get any better than him. no questions.

  • man i love him :)

  • @dante there was more to it, his dad bought him righty's and the tone the guit box puts out is resonated a bit.

  • why couldnt he just buy a left handed guitar..? guess he just wanted to be different.

  • @dante8781 Lol, because they didn't make left handed strats back then. So he just took a right handed one, flipped it, and strung it left. That's why he's Jimi Hendrix and everyone else isn't.

  • @dante8781 You don't change whats working for you. That's why so many ball players wear contacts instead of just getting lasik.

  • @roni4545 SRV was like a jimmy clone =\ , (except he did not play out of tune half the time)

  • Si tenia razon Gentry, no le cambia las cuerdas a su Lira el Maese Allen Hendrix, Che Larry al Batakero lo vi a unos 5 metros de distancia( es Izquirdo tambor) Buddy Miles.

  • At 3:49 it sounds like it skips a part or something like that

  • Love me some Jimi.....completely awesome song!

  • 2 people (insert insult here)

  • Noodles37UK Jimi actually did use Flying V's also, you rarely saw them but he used them to icy effect on the Hawaii album. Had some painted ones too.

  • He just couldn't be bothered with Gibsons could he? lol!

  • what amazes me is... he made this is in 1970!!!!

  • I love it. Amazing in every sense of the word. Jimi for life and forever!

  • oh my jesus christ.

  • love that tone

  • Jimi i love you b eacuse you have the right feeling! Blueshawk digg you 100%

  • there's only one Jimi

  • This is a thomp from the Band of Gypsys, which base and drummer where black, why are all the pictures of the Experience band.

  • Isnt the title Power of soul?

    Love ya Jimi

    R.I.P.

  • @annolenno there's Power of Soul, and Message to Love

  • jaw droppinqq.

    : O

  • all I can say is, fuck yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • all I can say is, fuck yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • jimi hendrix is the only case in rock history which the guitar plays him and not vice-versa...that's why no one can't beat him!

  • 2 People have no soul.

  • God is the designer. Designed Jimi Hendrix and his tone before he even was born.

  • @guitarvegas Jimi IS god

  • Jeff Beck first time he heard Hendrix "Well I guess it's time to get a job in the Post Office".

  • there is no better 1:40 beginning to a tune in rock and roll history!

  • 4:47 it's the rivers, sometimes the wind's not right.

  • His guitar picked sounds from the surroundings, like resonating the whole universe.

  • I had a friendly argument with a guy the other day. I see it as being rather pointless to debate who's "better" when it comes to music since art is expression and not a contest, but he asked who I think the "best" guitarist ever is. I said Hendrix is the one who stands out most to me and that's saying a lot because I'm a drummer and don't usually pay attention to guitar. He said that Slash from GnR is the best. Any opinions on that? I doubt he's heard much Hendrix.

  • @jbjindra no body and i mean nobody comes close to hendrix,he was the guitar!!!!!!!!!,.
