U see first time i played system shock, (i was like 6 yrs old) i shat bricks. like seriously. even now (when i'm 17) watching shodan wasn't really any kind of... nice, nor cool and such feeling. it just made me push the escape button, cuz that face was just fucked up. not scary, and without personality either.

EA strikes again... System Shock 3 is going to be developed by the 'Godfather' team. 2k don't have the rights to it. That's why Bioshock was made instead.

EA always had the rights to System Shock, they published SS2, at the same time as HalfLife 1. Good move. They didn't know what they had. EA recently renewed the System Shock copyright, and the rumourmill states the 'Godfather' dev team are on it. Crap.

I haven't played the Godfather games so I won't comment on the quality that team produces, but handing off a franchise to a different set of people pretty much guarantees that the spirit of the game will be lost. I'd love a true sequel more than anything, but I'm extremely disappointed that it has to change hands.

I wouldn't say it's downgraded in the RPG area, simply because the RPG area is lifted straight from SS2, as you say. I think it's more to do with the unoriginality of the Bioshock script.

And you gotta admit though, there were some damn good improvements: the AI was terrific, the plot had some good twists (not all taken from SS2 :p), and the development of the character at the end and the ending cutscene(s) were bloody awesome.

SS2 > Bioshock, but Bioshock is awesome in and of itself.

Bioshock truely is the spiritual successor for SS2: there are so many parallels! I won't go into them because spoilers kill the interwebs, but if you've played SS2 you'll understand :D
