These boys, girls, men and woman that make it out of these sects and have to rebuild their lives in a world they know absolutley nothing about are my heros. I truely mean it these guys and gals are heros. Why these kind of places even are alowed to exist in USA (I am european) is to me a mystery.
Do you know where can I get/buy/watch this movie?? I need to watch it right now!!! I can't understand why something like this documentary is so superunknown..
Guess i will be crying with sadness/joy/disbelief/hope the entire time watching this film. There must be many such closed communities in the U.S. where children were brought up knowing nothing but what their family and religious groups allow them to know. And the adjustments, the separation from the only life they knew, the loss of the loved ones they grew up with,..,the coming of age event that will give these kids the ultimate experience in claiming oneself as an individual. Bravo!
"Last I checked if someone leaves the L.D.S. Religion we don't banish them from their family their homes and everything else they know and we don't tell them they are going to hell."
I have heard many stories from Ex-Mormons to the contrary. If the entire family of the person is LDS than often times they are turned against the defector for purely religious reasons. The LDS practice "excommunication." Notice the root of the word is communication and the "EX" means you are deprived of it.
All of Mormonism comes from the teachings of Joseph Smith. People like Warren Jeffs and Brigham Young are just carrying out what Joseph Smith taught. The modern LDS Church has given up the PRACTICE of polygamy and racism because there are laws against them, but they have never given up the BELIEF in polygamy and racism because in America the government cannot pass laws against a belief. You are free to believe what you want. The difference between the FLDS and LDS is a matter of PRACTICE.
Brigham Young is comparable to Warren Jeffs. Brigham Young was the Mayor of the Utah Territory and President of the LDS Church. Brigham ran the government and the Church. He had complete control both politically and spiritually. He took full advantage of that and engaged in many abusive practices. He had people assassinated by the Danies, taught Blood Atonement, took peoples property through the law of consecration practiced polygamy and slavery, killed 120 people at Mountain Meadows, etc.
@aarobc Explain how we are just as deluded please. Last I checked if someone leaves the L.D.S. Religion we don't banish them from their family their homes and everything else they know and we don't tell them they are going to hell. I would love to know why you think we are deluded.
@Bliced It seems you don't understand the definition of the word, allow me to enlighten you:
Delusion: A false belief that is resistant to confrontation with actual facts; The state of being deluded or misled; That which is falsely or delusively believed or propagated; false belief; error in belief.
@aarobc Sorry I thought of the other definition of the word (more of the slang side really as an insult for ignorance) as it is more commonly used in this day and age, especially so on the internet. You will find deluded people in every religion and even atheism, but I would love to know why you feel that way.
Sounds like an excellent documentary.More light needs to be shown on the FLDS so people will know what is happening. Mormonism calls people who leave Sons of Perdition because from their view point you are giving into Satan. The reality of the situation is just the opposite. Leaving Mormonism will allow you to come closer to God through a personal relationship with God. Mormonism does not allow that because it has to act as the middle man between its members and God, just to justify its existence
@isthechurchtrue Because there is absolutely no observable evidence that "he" exists. There have been books written about dragons, witches, wizards and unicorns. It doesn't mean they are real.
Your argument is completely fallacious. You are saying that the absence of evidence for God, is evidence that God does not exist. Absence of evidence ≠ evidence of absence. Assuming that you are correct in saying that "there is absolutely no observable evidence that "he" exists" that still does not prove that "he" does not exist.
@isthechurchtrue Using your logic then, you can't say that because no one has ever disproved god that he exists. Which means you would have to be agnostic.
How do YOU know that God exists and you have a "personal relationship with him".
I do not say that. What you fail to realize is that most people do not base their belief in God on "observable" evidence. I like many have Faith in God based on spiritual evidence.
@isthechurchtrue There is only one type of evidence, and that is scientific evidence. There is no such thing as spiritual evidence as it is COMPLETELY subjective and only based on YOUR experiences. I don't "fail to realize" anything, as there is nothing to realize.
There are philosophical and logical evidences for the existence of God. For example it is safe to assume that you cannot get something from nothing. Things exist such as myself, yourself, and the universe, therefore these things must have a creator. That creator existed before anything material (or created) existed (you, myself, the universe) because the creator has not created it yet. Thus the creator of the universe must be immaterial, uncreated, eternal, and God.
@isthechurchtrue "For example it is safe to assume that you cannot get something from nothing."
This argument has been used and debunked so many times now, and we are all tired of hearing it. Please get educated on the current issues. Also, "philosophical and logical evidences" is not "evidence" like you are attempting to imply they are. Your deliberate attempts to mislead readers with word-games are transparent, and do nothing but embarrass your cause.
Just looking at the evidence of your own consciousness proves the existence of God. Science cannot explain what consciousness is and is therefore lacking. Philosophy, logic, and reason exam ideas and their veracity. By using philosophy, logic, and reason we can find evidence for God. For example:
Living things do not come from non living things. I live. Thus the creator of the universe must be a sentient being that lives and created all living things (including myself).
@isthechurchtrue If you knew anything about your consciousness physically you would know its just a chemical brain stew. Have you ever used a mind altering substance? It's very easy to see the illusion of your ego and how consciousness is PURELY driven by a chemical stew in the brain, just try adding more chemicals.
I'm sorry you use God to fill in the gaps of your knowledge. The God of Gaps. Look it up.
You fail to realize that science only examines the natural (a.k.a. physical) world, and so it is not an appropriate tool to use in the examination of God. It is more appropriate to use tools like philosophy.
@isthechurchtrue no it doesnt i also examines anti matter for as mutch it is possble and tiny tiny paricals that allmost dont excist and sience is not better to only use philosophycal its allways based on fact's and can be mathmatical proven and stuff like that religon is only based on some random accusations some poeple make and are never abel to prove it religon is very dangerous cause you see where it allways leads and that are wierd sekts and cult that think they know everything
For this Christian I am pleased that the light of publicity is being shone on this terrible situation. People must be made aware of these self appointed "prophets". They are in the same category as the Jim Jones and David Korish's of the world. Now make a documentery on Islamic Sharia and compare.
@kissfan7 - yes, they all typically speak with the same accent. It is an accent (almost southern) wholly confined within this community.
