I'm just out of flight school, and I have the great pleasure of flying one of these awesome planes. The performance may look modest, but when you put it next to the fuel burn and relative easy flying characteristics, it is absolutely fantastic. I'm not saying it is a plane to be put in anyone's hands, the step is considerably high between a light twin (piston) and that sort of machine, but it's certainly waayyy easier than a Learjet.
What I like best about this video is that Mr. Dave seems to really appreciate what he has in life and I'm sure worked hard for it. I think someone like him that made their own money gets a lot more out of an experience like this than someone taking a ride on someone elses dime. Good luck to you Mr. Dave and God bless the USA where dreams like this can become reality if you want it bad enough and are wiling to work hard.
i hear that learjets can be tricky to fly compared to pretty much anything else. does the newest generation of cessna citations take care of this? i'm just getting interested in this stuff and kind of clueless.
One man's dream is another man's reality. Dave Goode is living my dream darn it! This jet is nice but I am surprised companies like Gulfstream or Bombardier/Learjet make a jet certified for single pilot operation? Cessna is doing it right. I even like that fact the mustang has a yoke like a 182 instead of the basic jet type that goes between your legs.
@16sag7 at one point back when the Learjet was first being produced in the 60's, Bill Lear was pushing to have the Learjet be certified for single pilot operation but the FAA would not allow it. As for Gulfstreams, they are heavy jets intended for long-haul routes that would require more than one pilot. So single pilot operations would be impractical. As for the lighter Gulfstreams (G100,150,200,250) its beyond me why they aren't certified for single pilot ops.
@Hbryant188: Thank you for the response. I was thinking about the smaller G100 to G250 when refering to the single pilot operation. As I ook at the ranges for the G150 to the G250 I realize it is about the range more than the actual operation of the plane. How many people can last not going the bathroom for 5 to 6 hour flight. If you were a single pilot operator you would have to leave the cockpit to go to the bathroom thus leaving the plane unattended. This is my best quess.
@16sag7 "it is the airplane that has to be certified first. All the controls and instruments must be reachable from the left seat. There are lots of them that you cannot reach the gear handle from the left seat, thus two pilots are required. Each aircraft must be certified first by the FAA that it can be operated and safely operated by only one pilot. The heavier craft that require a tiller for nosewheel steering doesn't qualify, as on takeoff the left seat driver has one hand on the tiller....
@16sag7 ......and one on throttles and no other hand for the other controls." Also, insurance premiums are much higher on aircraft certified for SP operations. Especially if that aircraft is pressurized. Annual premium on a new Cessna 182 is around $3,300. For the Citation Mustang its > $20,000. Personally I'd rather fly the Socata TBM-850 it has the same cabin volume, range, and is only 20 kts slower than the Mustang but with %25 less operating costs.
Dave. Your enthusiasm and excitment is contageous. It's great to see a man of your means giddy about his purchase. And I really like you quote about dreams, thoughts, actions, realities. You parents must be proud. All the best to you.
Love the plane. Navigation is as simple as flying either a C172SP or C182T with the NAVIII and the GFC 700. I got to fly this plane from KOJC in 2007.
I want to agree with you. Let's hope your thoughts translate into a future rebound for the American Auto Industry.
Also, don't lose sight of the fact that there's plenty of competition out there from Brazil and others for producing similar aviation products at competetive prices.
230 lbs/hr per side at FLT LEV 410 actually calculates to less than 68 gl/hr at cruise. 90 gl/hr is a good number for flight planning, including climb, etc.
I would more than LOVE to have this airplane. I want to testfly that thing... gosh. But I think it uses too much FUEL. I think a TBM 850 would be more efficient.
Is this plane usually owner-flown? More than hiring pilots?

@shaneo0306 Yes, it does blend. Just look at images of Cessna crashes. They blend pretty good.

It is a good body.
It is cheap also in price and employment cost is also saved.
Next, it will be this if it rides!

Only uses 68.5 gl/hr at cruise. It can climb to 41,000 where fuel efficiency really is good.

actually it burns 90 gph
