I have had my Mini 14 NRA for 2 years now, it was the 1st rifle I bought when it looked like Obama was going to win the election...So lucky I happened upon the rifle, I asked the saleman if he had any Mini 14's and he said, only the NRA edition, which I wasn't even sure what that was at the time, so I said, I'll buy it...GREAT ACCURATE rifle!!! This Mini is a tackdriver like my AR's...

Man, I wish the mini 14's took the AR-15 style mags. It would look alittle weird, but there are so many makes of AR mags. My cousin has a Mini-14 and he can't find any reliable mags except stock ruger ones, which are hard to come by (30 rounders)

5.56mm X 45mm (NATO designation); is equivalent to .223 Remington (American designation).

I called Ruger and they said that it was ok to shoot 5.56 through the newer Heaver berrel Mini's. Im not sure how your getting brass marks? ive never had that problem.

Nice NRA. You won't do it any harm by shooting 5.56s in it, don't know why everyone thinks that. It is stated right in the owners manual that 5.56s can be used in conjunction with .223s

@Bly86 I never understood that...Some people really believe 5.56 won't work in Mini's, when all along, all of the mini's I have ever shot fire 5.56's just as well as .223's, even my brothers Mini 14 180 series (1976 edition) shoot them as well as any 5.56/.223 rifle...

@Bly86 most guns that are chambered for .223 cant take .556 because of the increased pressure but all of the specs i have seen on the mini 14 says it is chambered in.556 so that may be why it can handle it

They only made 10,000 NRA Mini-14. And I love mine, one of my most favorite weapons of all time. And it's a lot more accurate than what people say. I get 1 inch groups at 150 with no problem. (rifle fixed in place) lousy shooters are to blame for inaccuracy.

What kind of groups are you getting at 100 yards? I just fired my buddy's Mini-14. It far exceeds the piece of junk called a Mini-14 that I owned 20 years ago. I like the heavier barrel and the improved gas system. Also, have you had any issues with premature barrel over heating?
