Melee and Brawl are two different things. They may have similarities but the overall gameplay is different. It's like a tomato and an apple; They may look similar but they are SO different! Brawl takes more skill, in my opinion, because you can't just chain grab like they do here *cough Ice-grabbers/DeDeDe*. No doubt chain-grabbing in Melee is fairly difficult and it's still epic watching wave-dashing and stuff, but all in all, the games play differently. Don't compare.

I agree that Melee matches are generally A LOT more exciting to watch than Brawl matches. But, Brawl matches can be worth watching (there is more exciting Brawl footage than that).

Anyways, I think that the reason somebody would play Brawl over Melee is either because that's what most ppl around them play or because they aren't used to Melee and haven't tried it enough to realize how much more fun and rewarding it is. Or because there is more money in professional Brawl. :/

Also, you can't generalize about how Brawl players are and what they think. I'd rather consider them as "people who haven't seen the light" than "people who just care about graphics, characters". Pound 4 was one big international tourney where Melee was a lot more hyped because of the european interest and other factors. But if you start counting the hundreds of regional tournies, Brawl has a lot more attendants. Read the 2009 summary of the Melee scene on smashboards, because that's what the closing statement says.

I used to be Brawl-only, but I'm now hugely into Melee and 64. I know a lot of people like me who aren't, because of how arrogant and oppressive people are to them.

I can't really agree with you though. There are tons of things you can't react to in Melee, prediction is much more important. While attacking is a good option in Melee, but it isn’t always the best. If wining with rock gives you 5 points but winning with Scissor/Paper gives 3 it’s not a good idea to use rock all the time.
