  • Happy New Year Everyone.....

....I'm heading over to my sister's house for midnite dinner & fireworks with the nieces and nephews.

  • Love it!!! Happy New Year, everyone

  • Billy Preston you were one of the greatest. Aretha you are my HERO !

  • Now I can bring in the New Year, thanks for uploading this video of Aretha and Billy.

  • Beautiful rendition. Billy Preston doing what he did best and Aretha belting out those notes,

  • New Year 2012!

  • It would've been nice if billy was on the organ and Aretha on the piano.

  • this version is shit....#mairi campbell

  • Yes, yes, yes....Billy always knew how to tickle those damm keys. Much love Preston and RIP, bro.

  • Love it!

  • This is terrible. But to each his own.

  • aretha franklin has the most effortlessly strong voice without it sounding like shes shouting and screaching like some other singers. so much power, its great!

  • 1:08 She almost made the T.V explode. :)

  • @Barley1231 hahahaha XD

  • this is sounding good to me!!!

  • B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L- !!!!

  • Happy New Year - and what a lovely late Christmas present this is!

  • I love that sound of her voice. I especially love the 80's/90's raspy sound in her voice.

  • Loved it, thank you. I've never heard it done better.

  • Aretha And Billy Preston, the fifth Beatle.

  • Happy New Year from New Orleans !

  • Happy New Year from New Orleans !

  • sorry just not good..they are better with their own music

  • @binichRainerZufall Seriously? You can't hear the joy, the soul and the casual mastery displayed by both Aretha and Billy? You can't compare this to a fully produce song from an album. This isn't even concert footage. This is just two people knocking around a classic standard in an off-hand way. It's spontaneous, heartfelt and fun. I challenge you to find a better, more entertaining rendition of Auld Lang Syne. These two show up Guy Lombardo, easily.

  • did anyone notice aretha's laugh at 2:40... LOL

  • Touching... Remembers me of better times.

  • amazing...thank you..

  • @talofa231 You are most welcome. Certainly my pleasure to have posted this amazing performance for others to enjoy.

  • This outstanding song gets a big kiss. BRAVO. I Love this WOW. What a beautiful song. Don't you just love how Billy Preston did her, two giants of all times. What can I say, just can's be beat.

  • I watch this clip at least once a month! The undisputed queen of soul & the great billy preston.

  • This is so amazing! love it!

  • Very beautiful rendition by two of the very great! Thanks! Ps Happy New Year!

  • Hotep and Greetings. This is a very "soulful" rendition performed by two of the greatest artist in thier craft, just simply a beautiful performance. Definately one of the better videos on you tube.

  • Thanks for the translation of Auld LANG SYNE.

  • Awesome but the lack of embeding is a big fail. Happy new year anyhow...

  • queen of soul and the fith beatle... it's just great the way they sing this song like in the good old days...

    thanks for the clip.

happy new year for all you lads.

  • wow! great take on Burns most famous poem. check out an alternative folk version from a scottish girl...cassylochart

  • My God that took us to church on this. I love it. Should old acquaintances be forgotten, And never brought to mind? Should old acquaintances be forgotten, And days of long ago ! Chorus: For old long ago, my dear (For auld lang syne, my dear,) For old long ago, (For auld lang syne,) We will take a cup of kindness yet (We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet) For old long ago. (For auld lang syne!)
  • Listen to Billy thump dat piana in the old time way.

  • wow.

  • I was looking forward to the "richt guid willy wought" line

  • Yes Billy Preston did play the piano on the Let It Be album

  • I love this song and this version! I'm adding this one to my New Year's mix tape with Guy Lombardo and Scott West's versions!! Can't wait for 2009!!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallright i really really love this one!!!!

    thx for posting bro´..........

  • it's called a dialect, get out from under your rock! Incredible collaboration!

  • early blues and gospel music were inspired by old scottish and irish folk music... when you gonna realise we all one..with beautiful yet subtle differences... know your friends..

  • So true... gospel music has origins in the Hebrides of Scotland. Music is objective and it's great to blend cultures and influences. I love this... you can't beat Aretha's voice... she can sing anything and Billy does a good job keeping up :O)

  • @mccorkell1

some truth tae that! The origins of Gospel have been traced to the "Outer hebridies" were the Gaelic tradition of "Lining Out" inspired Gospel music in church!

Of course, the black americans made it their own, but they did take something from the Celts nonetheless!

  • They sure could throw down. Just like in days gone by sat in the Franklin parlour. Billy beatin up that pianah too.

  • if the tables were turned, this is tons better than if say, Del Amitri were ever to cover Lift Ev'ry Voice :D

    (anyone get that?) :p

  • Thank you SO much for posting this. It makes my heart so glad. Kisses and hugs!

  • agreed

  • lol africans over the world contributed too not just the american ones

  • what idiot would see Aretha Franklin's name, and that of Billy Preston, and expect a traditional rendering of a scottish tune...c'mon now, really...the two are classics in their own right

  • Word. How stupid can people be?

  • Great! When you are into music you will appreciate all music, once you understand it

regardless who is singing. Thanks. Lynn)

  • no, the traditional version is better.

  • emeless this version is classic....thank you for posting it.....

  • omfg..... can we not get a bloody scottish version of this song!!!!

  • There are lots of Scottish versions of the song, why can't different cultures enjoy it? Gospel music has origins in the Hebrides so it's all come together :o)

  • they just dnt have a clue how to sing it with the proper wrds .... its kl to have differnet versions but sing THE TRUE WORDS!!!!!

  • The style that this rendition is in, is traditional gospel. Preston took that way of playing directly from the church.

  • Billy Preston 4 ever 5 *

  • Now you just said a mouth full with that one. LOL!

  • Her talent is greater than her size.

  • Enjoyed this jazzy, not so traditional renditon....Great pat your feet and clap your hands New Year's pick me up...Just too bad I didn't hear it then....lol

  • This version is not nearly traditional enough. There are no traditional Auld Lang Syne videos on Youtube, and I find that depressing.

  • YouTube has plenty other video's of this song including a version I posted which is pretty much traditional excluding a brief snippet of my vocal warm up beforehand. If you don't like other versions, why don't you share your own? Life is too short to be depressed. Have a good year!

  • They look like they're having so much fun!

  • Great way to start 08. Keep up the great work in Iraq and bring the troops home safe...

  • yeah....stop this stupid war and bring every single soldier home !!!

  • Happy New Year from Providence, Rhode Island!! I cant wait to see some fireworks and kiss my girlfriend at midnight. God bless The United States, God save the queen, God save the world, and bring our soldiers home!

  • HaPpY NeW YeAr

  • HaPpY NeW YeAr!

  • I think Billy shines here. Check my crazy remix if you would, thanks. If not, hey, I tried.

  • LOVE!

  • This is how to bring in a new year right!

  • classic

  • I agree with the last couple posts. Luther had a great voice.. but alot of his producing was often "over" produced. Almost to the point where it took away from the vocalist and music. Aretha's Arista days were so wonderful because it was so simple and the vocalist allowed to shine.

  • Luther produced Aretha on Arista, did you mean on Atlanic? The worst 2 lps she ever made LV produced.

  • Yes... (feeling slightly stupid :) Thanks for mentioning that... lol (Atlantic, not Arista)

  • But I TOTALLY agree with your opinion. Even when Re lost her voice in the mid 80s thru the early 90s (when she finally gave up her multi-pack Kools habit) her concerts were ruined from over-production. She was a smart enuff singer that she could've still given decent concerts with a reduced range if she just had a quartet and bluesd out the arrangements but instead she hid behind these big band arrangements which only emphasized the problem.

  • but Luther Vandross is still an awesome singer, but I will agree that the albums he produced with her were not up to par.

  • Billy KILLS on Aretha's The Other Side Of The Sky, esp

on Just Right Tonight. Also check out his work on Ta Ta Vega's Now I See. His A&M lps are way underated.

This sounds SOOO much better than Arethas' studio stuff at that time. They are so sweet and funky together.

  • Billy kills it all the time and Aretha's studio stuff back then was hit and miss even tho I have managed to hear a cut on all of her Arista recordings that let me know she still is the queen.

  • agreed, the 2nd Luther Album was pretty slim pickins though for me. Aretha should produce all of her own cds or do a duet with Stevie Wonder.

  • Just saw a new interview where Ree said she wants to duet with Mr Wonder.

  • as well as Chaka Khan and Smokey Robinson, all 3 some of my favoerite singers

  • justo el mismo año en que que llegue a este mundillo jeje

  • Aretha can really jazz some shit up can't she? Imagine if her and ray did that?

  • Billy came up with that BEAT I'll bet money. Everybody's favorite keyboard artist.

  • SIMPLY WONDERFUL.

    onelove

  • sweet! aretha and the fifth beatle.

  • You can't be trained to play the piano like that, and no one ever could be trained to sing like aretha. Her musicianship is masterful.

  • that was really a "gem"

  • This is beautiful and priceless

  • i like to be allowed to use this video on a blog please, Thanks...

  • She looks great here, and so happy. Billy Preston works well with her. Pity they did not do more together.

  • They worked on Aretha's Amazing grace together. Billy played the organ.

  • did billy play the whole organ on this soundtrack?

  • Yes he did. Billy played the organ for the entire 2 disc set. James Cleveland and Aretha switched turns at the piano.

  • oh thanks for the info. Who do u like better on the organ? twinkie clark or preston?

  • HAHA... I have never heard this song performed this way. I LOVE IT.

  • Lord Jesus, this woman can sing me happy! She reminds me of the great Mahalia Jackson on this song--ANOINTED!

  • I love it. Those two People can make anything sound good ! montellia60
